What is the Relic Tree and How to Unlock it
The Relic Tree is a completely new perk tree added in the Phantom Liberty Expansion (not part of the free 2.0 update). To unlock the tree, you have to purchase the expansion. It offers access to new abilities that are unique and exclusive to this perk tree.
To unlock it you have to begin the Phantom Liberty quest line. We have a guide on how to start Phantom Liberty and access Dogtown if you want to know all the options before you. The short version is that you get the starter quest for the expansion as you progress through the main storyline of the game.
The Relic Tree will be available for you after meeting Songbird. This happens almost at the very beginning of the story, so you will not have to wait much nor will you have to explore Dogtown without the new Relic Tree available to you.
In a conversation with Songbird, she will unlock the tree and grant you the first three Relic Points so you can unlock one of the main Perks from it. Later, during another main story mission, Songbird will grant you another three Relic Points.
To acquire Relic Points, you have to search for Militech Data Terminals that are scattered all over Dogtown. These terminals will only be visible on the map when you’re near them. Each Data Terminal will grant a single Relic Point that can only be used on the Relic Tree.
Skill Tree Overview
The Relic Skill Tree has three main perks, each dedicated to a unique playstyle and boosting different aspects of your gameplay. Each of the three main perks has one or more additional perks that you can unlock after you get the main perk.
Jailbreak
Emergency Cloaking
Vulnerability Analytics
The main perks cost three Relic Points. The smaller perks cost a single Relic Point. If youfully explore Dogtown, you will be able to fully unlock the entire Relic Tree Perks.
If you do not have the strength or desire to do that, don’t worry. You don’t actually have to unlock all Perks because you would not really use all of them at once.
Below we have a detailed overview and breakdown of each Perk along with its usefulness in different scenarios.
Jailbreak
Jailbreak splits into four abilities in reality considering it has different effects based on the Arms Cyberware you are currently using.
Jailbreak is the main ability with more complimentary abilities in the Relic Tree (Up to four). This is perfect for every player who wants to become an unkillable in-your-face terror machine.
Players who love a high-risk high-reward combat style will love this. Be mindful that not every opponent can be defeated in just a few seconds. If surrounded by multiple strong enemies you might need to consider a less direct approach.
To make the most out of Jailbreak, you’d have to spec into the appropriate Perks that boost the melee combat style of your choice.
The Mantis Blades count as a sword and benefit from the right tree of Reflexes.
The Gorilla Arms are a natural choice if you spec in Body Attribute and invest in the right perks tree.
The missiles you can fire from your Launcher benefit from the explosion perks located in the left side of the Technical Ability.
Monowire is generally a Netrunner’s best friend and it is boosted by perks located in the right skill tree of the Intelligence Attribute. The L
Jailbreak costs three Relic Points to unlock. After that, you have four separate branches with one small additional perk that you can unlock for one Relic Point each. You do not need to unlock all of the additional perks, just the one that is directly related to the Armc Cyberware of your choice. And you can swap them out as needed.
Spatial Mapping
With Jailbreak and Spatial Mapping it’s possible to jump from enemy to enemy almost infinitely if you can perform a Finisher. Having to possibility to charge leap attacks and get increased dismemberment chance makes you incredibly mobile and lethal for most enemies.
Limiter Removal
If you’re being cornered by a large group of enemies, Limiter Removal will prove extremely useful to reposition yourself or escape.
This is also a good AoE and crowd control ability for situations where you are overwhelmed or other important things are on cooldown and you need a moment to gather yourself.
Launch Capacity Overdrive
There are many times when you’ll need to use any resources available to buy a little extra time. Along with health items, grenades, and quickhacks, an extra charge for the Projectile Launch System can make the difference between finishing an important mission or ending up flatlined.
If you spec into Pyromania (the left tree in the Technical Ability Perks), you will likely want to max out on the usefulness of the Launcher!
Data Tunneling
Data Tunneling is the most useful ability if you love quickhacks and utilize a Netrunner build.
Spreading a quickhack to multiple enemies can make lots of fights significantly easier.
The downside is that you must actually get close to the enemies. Something many Netrunners often prefer to avoid.
Emergency Cloaking
Sometimes you have to get out before getting zeroed. No matter what kind of weapons or playstyle you prefer. Exiting combat and losing aggro is something that can save you more than once. Especially when playing on the harder difficulties. As one of the main abilities of the Perk Tree, it also costs three points.
Optical Camo is an implant you can slot into your Integumentary System. It is Cool attuned and gets buffed by a few Perks from that Attribute Skill Tree.
If you prefer the stealth approach and assassin playstyle, you would definitely want Optical Camo and the Emergency Cloaking perk.
Sensory Protocol
Sensory Protocol gives an extra chance to those who struggle with being stealthy. Its 120-second cooldown is certainly not short but it can save you a lot of time and bullets.
This is the only complimentary ability of Emergency Cloaking.
Vulnerability Analytics
This is arguably the ability that will be used almost 100% of the time and is incredibly useful by many builds.
Being able to spot the strongest enemies’ weaknesses can give you the upper hand even when things aren’t looking too good.
The best thing is that it has no cooldown. As one of the main abilities of the Relic Tree, it costs three points.
Machine Learning
The complementary perk for the Vulnerability Analytics. The stats are already decent and the fact that they can be doubled when reaching max stacks is great.
Militech Data Terminal Locations in Dogtown
After unlocking the Relic Perk Tree, you’ll be granted three points. Continuing the main story quest of Phantom Liberty will get you another three points. This happens during a conversation with Songbird right after you leave the hideout during the main job “Birds With Broken Winds”.
As stated at the beginning of this guide, most of the Relic Perk Points are obtainable through Militech Data Terminals.
In the next segment, I will show you the exact location of the Militech Dataterms. Below you will find descriptions and images to help you get to the location of every Data Terminal in Dogtown. It doesn’t matter which Militech Dataterm locations you will visit first. There’s no required order to find them.
Militech Data Terminal Under the stairs
This one is located next to the road. There is a big concrete structure with two stairs and a lot of unoccupied space under it. You will see a few people gathering near the area but none of them are hostile.
The Dataterm is located in a niche in the wall, behind some metal grates and sheets piled up to create a sort of a fence.
Militech Data Terminal near Kress Street
This terminal is in the area where the “Increased Criminal Activity” pops up near Kress Street. This is a decently guarded place but nothing that represents a huge challenge.
After taking down the guards standing outside, go inside the tunnel. After coming out of it, turn left. There’s a green door, the Data Terminal is behind it. Make sure to take down the enemy turrets and armed men before revealing your position.
Militech Data Terminal near Wellness Spa
This is also found in an area where you encounter an “Increased criminal activity” event, this time near the Luxor High Wellness Spa.
Be careful, these Voodoo Boys have snipers, netrunners, drones, and a physically enhanced woman that will chase you until either you or her are down.
The Data Terminal is on the second floor of the main hall where the strongest enemies are located. It’s behind a thick concrete column at the back of the structure.
Militech Data Terminal in the abandoned parking lot
In the middle of Dogtown, there is a huge underground parking lot. Stop when you see a mech patrolling the area. The abandoned parking lot is near that location.
Take the left stairs, turn left again, and walk towards the wall. For reference, look for the burning thrash can.
Militech Data Terminal at Kress Street apartment building
This is just outside of the apartment complex on Kress Street. Use the elevator to go to the ground level and the Dataterm will be on a corner next to a pile of garbage bags. This is not the main entrance of the building.
Militech Data Terminal in EBM Petrochem Stadium
Head to the EBM Petrochem Stadium. Mark the exact location shown in the map image below.
Proceed to walk past every store and continue until the path is blocked by a gate. There are two statues on the right side, use the stairs to get there. The Data Terminal is just a few meters behind the statues.
Nearby there is an open container with sparkles coming out of it. Enter and examine the broken droid 1R-0NC-LAD to start a scavenging hunt secret mission.
Militech Data Terminal in Skyscraper across from Heavy Hearts Club
On the second floor of the abandoned skyscraper in the north part of Dogtown, just south of the Stadium, there is another Militech Data Terminal.
If you stand with your back to the entrance of the Heavy Hearts club, look up on the second floor of the right building across the street. There is a staircase to the right. Take it.
The Dataterm is on the terrace overlooking the other abandoned skyscraper.
Militech Data Terminal At Terra Cognita
Like other Data Terminals, this is inside an area with the “Increased Criminal Activity” event. Inside this building, you will encounter snipers and even an Arasaka Drone. The easiest way to get there is through the Terra Cognita fast travel point.
The Data Terminal is on the top floor. Make sure to check every room, there are multiple Tier 5 items.
Defeating the boss from this Criminal Activity Event will reward you with one of the new Iconic Weapons in Dogtown – Sparky, a Power Sniper Rifle. And another weapon, the Cut-o-Matic x-MOD2 Chainsaw is not far away, in the building on the left to this one.
Militech Data Terminal above Capitan Caliente restaurant
In the destroyed green hotel building where the restaurant Capitan Caliente is, there is one more Militech Dataterm giving you +1 Relic Point. You visit the restaurant during the main job “Lucretia My Reflection”.
To get to the top of the building, you can use a double jump or reinforced jump if you have the implant for that or just take climb up the scaffolding, then from the second floor, jump up on the crane and from it to the destroyed top floor. Beware of the mine on this floor.
