CD Projekt Red are close to releasing the first patch to Cyberpunk 2077 after the major Update 2.0. Patch 2.01 will deliver a few key fixes and improvements in an attempt to smooth out any major issues you may have experienced playing 2.0 and Phantom Liberty!
Patch 2.01 Preview
Patch 2.01 is likely coming to Cyberpunk 2077 next week. We don’t know the date yet, but the support site for Cyberpunk 2077 announced some of the major fixes we can expect to be included in 2.01:
- The distorted effect caused by selecting a specific dialogue option when talking to Johnny at the end of Automatic Love will no longer persist on the screen.
- V will no longer die in The Heist by falling through the elevator when riding to the 42nd floor with low FPS.
- Fixed an issue where the UI could show controller inputs when playing with keyboard and mouse.
- Made it possible to properly switch to arms cyberware by cycling through weapons.
- Gig: Breaking News will be properly triggered after approaching the quest area.
- Vehicle radio volume will be adjusted so it’s not too quiet when compared to other sounds in the game.
- Addressed the issue of corrupted saves on PlayStation by increasing the maximum save file size limit. Note: this won’t fix the saves corrupted before the update. If you’re experiencing the issue, keep a working save (e.g. resave it as manual save) till 2.01 arrives.
- Performance improvements for both PC and consoles, especially in the Dogtown area.
One of the most annoying bugs that I personally cannot stand, is the displaced visual distortion effect on my favorite melee weapon, the Mantis Blades. Hope it gets fixed.
I personally have not experienced the bug related to the UI controls bug. Out of the three of us, who play and cover the game, only Endonae uses a controller and he has not encountered it either. While I don’t know how common it is, I am glad to see this potentially very annoying bug getting shortly.
The Performance fixes and improvements are a mandatory bullet point for literally every game developer in every patch they release.
Night City’s Dogtown is known to be laggy in certain areas. This new area is dramatically different visually than any other place in Night City. The level of detail in the new area of Pacifica is as different from anything else in the game as if it was taken out of the second Cyberpunk game (which we know is coming, but it’s still too far to talk about).
Certain areas, cause the aging RED Engine to spike, lag and drag behind, resulting in framerate loss and drops, of course. Phantom Liberty is the last major thing this engine will endure.
CD Projekt RED announced a while back that the entire studio and their future projects are moving to Unreal Engine, as I wrote in the announcement article for the next new Witcher game in March of 2022:
“CD Projekt RED also announced that they will be moving to Unreal Engine 5 as part of what they call a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games.”
If you are a Witcher fan, you know how many updates and patches the developers released for the next-gen update to The Witcher 3. And the performance, especially with Ray Tracing on, is still far from decent.
The engine shows its age and limits. Well, RT is also pretty demanding and it surely was not an easy task to retrofit it into a seven-years-old game! Cyberpunk 2077 is now nearly three years old and built with the same engine.
The ability to switch to your equipped Arms Cyberware by rolling through your weapons arsenal is a nice quality of life addition. I am sure it will be welcomed by (at least some) console players. I personally play on PC with mouse and keyboard and I much prefer to select the exact weapon I need with its dedicated shortcut key.
As soon as the patch goes live, we will report everything that has changed with it. There will be more things to discuss as what CD Projekt RED’s support page gave is, was just a highlight.
Our own major news
I am exceptionally proud to announce that we have completed and released two major catalogs for Update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty:
The Cyberware Catalog contains absolutely all Cyberware implants available in the game. Each one has its own description and recommendations how to use it and what builds it fits in well.
The Iconic Items catalog contains all of the new iconic items we have discovered so far in Dogtown or otherwise related to Phantom Liberty.
We have loved all of our time spent in Night City and Dogtown and continue our detailed coverage of the expansion and all of the other changes CD Projekt RED introduced with the giant free Update 2.0.
