CD Projekt RED delayed the release of Cyberpunk 2077’s first patch 2.01 after the massive free update 2.0 a bit longer than I thought, but the wait was worth considering the number of fixes included!
Important: Today’s Patch 2.01 was accompanied by two major announcements, which I have included in this article:
- Cyberpunk 2077 has sold 25 million copies so far. Phantom Liberty – 3 million.
- A Live Action project is starting, in collaboration with Anonymous Content
You can read more about these two announcements after the 2.01 highlights segment.
Update 2.0 was the biggest and last massive update to Cyberpunk 2077. Along with the Phantom Liberty expansion, this was the moment CD Projekt RED unofficially said their farewell to the project.
From here on now we can only expect smaller patches addressing the remaining issues and bugs. Similar to what happened with The Witcher 3 after the next-gen update.
What is new or changed in Patch 2.01: The Highlights
Patch 2.01 was teased a few days ago. CD Projekt RED gave us a few hints of things that we can expect to be addressed in 2.01. The full list of changes is much larger, of course.
Patch 2.01 for Cyberpunk 2077 is now available for download for all supported platforms. Its size on GOG (where we play it) is 6.73 GB.
Fixes for Phantom Liberty Missions
Several main and side jobs from the expansion received fixes and improvements. From places where V could get stuck to conversations not triggering properly or at all, to a couple of game-breaking bugs – a lot of important bugs were treated successfully with 2.01.
One key fix is in the Somewhat Damaged main mission. There was a bug that could prevent you from scanning the Neural Network system. This has been fixed.
Other missions where bugs and glitches were addressed include “Moving Heat” and “You Know My Name”. Remaining stuck in the sniper nest in the latter was an annoying bug. I was lucky to never get it on several playthroughs, but I’ve heard from people suffering from it.
Switching to Arms Cyberware and Weapons
One of the previously teased improvements in the “gameplay” department was the possibility to switch to your Arms Cyberware as you switch between your other weapons.
This could be helpful for console players or those of you who play with a controller where the number of buttons and combinations is somewhat limited.
I have always played with Keyboard and Mouse and have dedicated shortcuts for each weapon slot, including the Arms Cyberware. It’s more convenient, and it saves time when you need a specific weapon right on the spot, don’t you think?
PC Specific fixes
In some cases, you might have seen a controller UI scheme when you play on PC with keyboard and mouse. This bug was addressed with today’s patch and you should no longer experience it.
DLSS’s latest iterations have always debuted in Cyberpunk. This was the case with 3.5 and Ray Reconstruction. One fix coming to this tech in 2.01 is the improved image quality for the Ultra Performance setting.
Console Fixes
One major bug that should be fixed now is the issue of corrupted saves on PlayStation. This was resolved by increasing the maximum save file size limit. Unfortunately, already corrupted saves from before 2.01, will not be fixed.
The case of the missing Quadra Sport R-7 pre-order gift
It seems that some players were not able to see and get their free gift for pre-ordering Phantom Liberty. The Quadra Sport R-7 “Vigilante” car should have appeared in your list of vehicles automatically as soon as you load into the game after Phantom Liberty is released.
If you own The Witcher 3 and the (free) Gwent The Witcher Card Game, and in case you missed to claim the awesome Witcher-themed gifts from GOG, do it now! The Sword and Pistol are absolutely worth it.
I am very pleased to report that one of the most frustrating bugs I have experienced since 2.0 was the displaced relic effect on my Mantis Blades after a finisher. This was addressed and it looks good now.
As always, there are hidden (unmentioned in the patch notes) changes and improvements. I am eagerly searching for more smaller (and bigger) changes like this one in Patch 2.01!
One of the littlest, yet funny and thoughtful changes from Update 2.0 I was made aware of recently was the addition of the neon sign above the entrance to the “Jacked and Coke” bar in Night City.
A reader sent me the updated location, which now perfectly matches the scene we see in the Edgerunners show. Such a small change, yet a great easter egg to hunt for.
If you want to find all of the locations from Edgerunners in Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City, check out the full guide I have created for the true fans of the show and the game.
How many copies did Cyberpunk 2077 sell so far
Unrelated to today’s patch notes, but still relevant news is the fact that CD Projekt declared the current number of total sold copies of their game.
Cyberpunk 2077 has sold 25 million copies and the new expansion Phantom Liberty has sold so far 3 million copies!
Live Action Production announced
Yet another big news from today! CD Projekt RED teamed up with Anonymous Content to develop a live-action project set in the world of its video game, Cyberpunk 2077.
From today’s press release:
CD PROJEKT RED, the video game development studio known for its critically acclaimed The Witcher series of games and the best-selling Cyberpunk 2077, is pleased to announce it has begun a collaboration with global media company Anonymous Content to develop a live-action project set in the world of its video game, Cyberpunk 2077.
Anonymous Content is an independent global media company known for producing Emmy-winning series such as True Detective and Mr. Robot, as well as Academy Award-winning films including The Revenant and Spotlight. As part of the collaboration, CD PROJEKT RED is working directly with Anonymous Content Studios’ Head of Television Garret Kemble, Director of Development Ryan Schwartz, and Chief Creative Officer David Levine, an industry veteran who was previously HBO’s EVP and Co-Head of Drama for over 10 years, where he oversaw production of series such as True Detective, Westworld, and True Blood. He was also involved in the production of the early seasons of the Game of Thrones.
Current AC Studios series include Saint X directed by Dee Rees, Shantaram starring Charlie Hunnam, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey starring Samuel L. Jackson and Dominique Fishback, as well as the second season of Random Acts of Flyness. Upcoming series include season four of True Detective starring Jodie Foster, Time Bandits from Taika Waititi, Disclaimer from Alfonso Cuarón, starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline, and Savant, starring Jessica Chastain.
The new project is at an early development stage and has currently commenced searching for a screenwriter to tell a brand-new story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. Garrett Kemble, David Levine, Ryan Schwartz, and Bard Dorros will produce on behalf of Anonymous Content alongside Charlie Scully. Anonymous Content’s AC Studios will serve as the studio on the project. The project will be developed in close collaboration with the Cyberpunk 2077 creative team. More information about the project will be made available as the partnership between Anonymous Content and CD PROJEKT RED progresses.
CD PROJEKT RED has had previous successes in adapting the world of its best-selling video game for new mediums, including the critically acclaimed Netflix anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, created in collaboration with Studio Trigger, which went on to win several major awards, including Anime of the Year from IGN and Crunchyroll. In 2023, CD PROJEKT RED released the novel Cyberpunk 2077: NO_COINCIDENCE written by best-selling sci-fi author Rafal Kosik, while the brand-new board game Gangs of Night City is currently in production by the board game publisher CMON.
