What to expect in Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.02: Changes Preview

CD Projekt Red once again gave us hints of what fixes and improvements to expect in the upcoming Patch 2.02 to Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion Phantom Liberty!

Update 2.0 was by far the biggest the game has ever seen in its almost three years of existence. It changed and redesigned a lot of systems and mechanics, introduced new free content, and rebalanced the entire game around those changes. It was to be expected some bugs and issues to slip through the cracks.

With the enormous hype that Cyberpunk 2077 received around the release of the expansion Phantom Liberty, it was to be expected that a lot of new and returning players would come to check what is new and different. Last week’s Patch 2.01 addressed a few core issues and bugs from the major 2.0 release.

By the looks of it, Patch 2.02 will come next week. And the developers shared a preview of what is coming in 2.02 and hinted at a release date that should be very soon.

The most likely date is Tuesday, October 24th. This is my own speculation, no official release date has been revealed yet. No matter when the patch goes live, we’ll have an in-depth overview of it as well.

But now, let’s take a look at the few improvements and fixes CD Projekt Red confirmed to be included in 2.02:

  • V will no longer flatline after entering the Delamain AV in Path of Glory.
  • Fixed the shutters blocking entry to Black Sapphire in Run This Town.
  • Fixed an issue where cyberware could get downgraded to Tier 1 after updating the game to 2.01.
  • Fixed skill progression passives.
  • Rebalanced the timers in courier missions.

Note: The issue where players on Xbox Series X|S are not receiving the Quadra Sport R-7 “Vigilante” pre-order bonus is still under investigation. We’re working together with Microsoft to identify the root cause and bring you a fix as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Based on the Patch 2.01 preview and the actual amount of fixes and improvements from the official full 2.01 patch notes, we can safely conclude that 2.02 will have a lot more than what was listed above.

The ongoing issue with the Xbox pre-orders of the expansion where players still haven’t received their free car as a gift, is very disturbing. It looks like there will be no fix for that in 2.02 from what we read in the preview notes above.

I am a little puzzled as to what “Rebalanced the timers in courier missions” refers to. I personally found that most timers for the car delivery missions are ridiculously short and one single small mistake will result in missing the optional objective. The bullet point does not clearly state in what way or direction the rebalancing is going to happen.

Update 2.0 was the last major update for Cyberpunk 2077. The developers consider this to be the perfect farewell to the game as they focus their attention on the development of new titles. Among these are new Witcher-themed games.

In the future, it is safe to say that we should expect at least a few more minor updates like 2.01 and 2.02. There are no hints or any info at all about any new story content or new gameplay systems or further revision of existing ones.

I personally am happy with where Cyberpunk 2077 landed and the Phantom Liberty storyline is full of emotions and hard decisions. For me, it really is the perfect ending of a three-year struggle to fix and improve the game after the disastrous launch in December of 2020.

We here at VULKK.com continue to enjoy the game as we did in these past three years and we still have lots of content to produce for it. Content that we hope you will continue to enjoy!
