This guide will show you how to start and complete the side job “Balls To The Wall” from Cyberpunk 2077’s expansion Phantom Liberty! The walkthrough details each step you must take and the possible outcomes.
How to unlock and start “Balls To The Wall”
“Balls To The Wall” is a side job in Cyberpunk 2077. It can be unlocked after completing the main quest “The Spider And The Fly”. It will be marked on the map as any other side mission, this one is located right in the center of Dogtown.
Talk to Paco and Babs
After going to the location, you’ll be approached by two Barghest Soldiers, Paco and Babs. They are abnormally friendly for someone of their type. He insists on sitting with him to hear a “proposal”.
After almost begging for your attention, Paco gets excited about telling you a story and the origin of his problem.
Like many other NPCs in Night City, he’ll offer some drugs to “set the mood”. On other missions, it doesn’t matter whether you accept it or not, but for this one, you have to agree in order for the conversation to continue (and for the “Balls To The Wall” mission to begin).
Re-live Paco’s Memories
This substance will let you imagine and really get into what Paco is saying and use Colonel Kurt Hansen for a brief moment. I love when we play from another character’s perspective so it’s very cool that this was implemented on this mission.
After going out of the bathroom as the mighty Colonel, you’ll see Yuri. One of the Colonel’s top soldiers, and a man who recently failed. Hansen is all but happy about his failures and warns him about repeating the same mistakes.
Kurt then goes downstairs to meet the new recruit, Paco Torres. You and Paco “fight”, but it’s really more of an initiation ritual for the young boy who just joined the Barghest. You don’t receive any damage from him but Paco can surely handle some punches.
Paco might add one or two details that might be a little exaggerated (according to Babs) but nothing that could hurt the mission. After getting beat by the Colonel, Paco is officially a Barghest soldier. To prove the new recruit, Hansen puts him in charge of security of the next convoy.
You’ll return to “reality” but this won’t last much because Paco tells the last part of the story. It’s time to return to being Kurt Hansen.
Paco is driving a truck that carries lots of valuable supplies. This is a dangerous job and as expected, the convoy is ambushed by the Scavs. They chase the truck for a few blocks until the road gets blocked.
No more running, eliminate all the enemies. Kurt’s life will regenerate at a fast rate but this will change when playing on higher difficulties. The Colonel has a powerful pistol and a knife, use whatever you prefer.
After eliminating all the Scavs, Kurt instructs Paco to take the convoy and continue. He and Yuri are going to interrogate the only survivor. This is when Paco messed up big time.
Choices and Possible Endings of the mission
It turns out that Paco decided that it was a good idea to steal some generators that weren’t listed on the Convoy’s inventory. Now he and Babs are panicking, it’s a matter of time before Kurt and Yuri find out. Such an offense can only be paid with his life, this is where you need to step in.
There are three main options, and within these options, a total of five different outcomes to the mission “Balls To The Wall Walkthrough”.
What happens if you Frame Yuri
The first option is to frame Yuri, the guy who messed up with the NCPD commissioner. He is the perfect target. Babs gets very nervous about having this conversation in this place so everyone agrees to meet later at a nearby location.
This place is far from the Barghest headquarters and there are very few people around, it is ideal to talk about how to frame Yuri. Sit on the bench and wait for Paco and Babs to show up.
Instead of your two new friends, Yuri shows up. Somehow he managed to find out about everything and he’s decided to put an end to it. A mini-boss fight immediately begins.
Yuri’s most deadly weapons are his grenades. They will not detonate after landing on the ground, only if you shoot them or step nearby. Doing the last thing will instantly kill you so that’s not an option. The good thing is that they’re really easy to evade. You can also cancel Yuri’s animation by shooting right before he throws it, I used a shotgun to do so and it worked perfectly until my weapon ran out of ammo.
After Yuri has been defeated, you must search his body for the archived conversation between him and Kurt Hansen. He also gives some Tier 5 weapons.
Yuri found out very soon about Paco’s action and immediately talked with Kurt about it. The fact that Yuri appeared instead of Paco is evidence that something really bad happened. The conversation mentions the “Needle”, so that’s where you’re going next.
Upon arriving, you’ll see Paco’s headless body hanging out. This will serve as a reminder to everyone who thinks of doublecrossing Kurt Hansen.
Only Paco’s body is being displayed which raises the question of what happened to Babs. Message her to learn that she’s alive and well. You have two options, tell her what really happened or lie about Paco’s fate.
She has left Night City for good, doing the first one will make her feel guilty while the second one will always leave her wondering about what happened to his friend. It’s up to you to decide what to do.
What happens if you tell them to Run Away
The second option is to tell them to run away. To avoid any suspicions, Babs decides to stay behind at least until things cool down a bit. There’s no time to lose so you and Paco go to his car.
Paco gets in the trunk while you drive his ride and smuggle him out of Dogtown. Please note that if for some reason you provoke an “incident” and people start shooting at the car while Paco is in the trunk, he will die and the mission will end.
The drive will last only a few minutes, the Grand Imperial Mall which is very close to Dogtown is your destiny.
After dropping Paco, you’ll have to wait a few days before receiving a message asking to meet at the Afterlife.
Paco has joined the Scavs, something that’s even worse than working for the Barghest. The guy is clearly not smart, he didn’t consider that he and Babs are now on opposite gangs, and after pointing this he realizes how bad of a decision this is.
As a token of appreciation, Paco gives you the Iconic Power Assault Rifle “Carmen”. You can learn more about it in our Iconic Items Guide.
What happens if you choose to Call In Some Favors
Picking the last choice will have you message your contacts to see what they can do for both Paco and Babs. Rogue, Panam, and River will be your choices. For Panam, you must have completed her questline.
Asking Rogue for help doesn’t do much. She just points out that some generators were recovered by the NCPD, and that it should be enough info for you. Thanks, I guess?
That leads to River, after explaining the dire situation to our NCPD friend he agrees to help us by retrieving the generators.
After some days, Paco sends a message that includes a picture where he’s happily posing with the generators that River was kind enough to “retrieve”. Hopefully, this will teach him to make smarter decisions in the future.
Panam will answer in a flirty and silly way, but she didn’t earn our trust just by being funny. She and the Aldecaldos will help Babs and Paco to get out of Night City and find and get a new life.
After some days have passed, Paco sends a message saying that he and Babs are heading to Kenya. This is probably the happiest outcome of all of them, no one gets hurt and both of them are able to leave this life behind.
It doesn’t matter if you ask Panam or River for help, the iconic weapon “Carmen” will be inside a crate at the tent where you first meet Paco and Babs. It shows as a Tier 1 Iconic in the preview but this is a bug, once it’s in the inventory it will properly display as a Tier 5/Iconic.
This concludes my walkthrough for the side job “Balls To The Wall”, available in Dogtown, part of Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty expansion. I hope you have enjoyed it and learned everything you wanted for it from my guide.
