How to unlock “Run This Town”

“Run this town” is a side job in Cyberpunk 2077′ expansion Phantom Liberty. It can only be unlocked if Kurt Hansen dies during the main job “Firestarter“. Kurt Hansen can be defeated without killing him. To unlock this side job, make sure Kurt dies if you side with Reed.

After completing Firestarter, Mr. Hands will call to talk about the future of Dogtown. But such a delicate topic requires a more personal touch, head to the Black Hearts club to meet with Mr. Hands.

Meet with Mr. Hands

Once there, he’ll mention the two main candidates to take Kurt Hansen’s role as the head of Dogtown. Bennett, a soldier to the core and his former second-in-command. You can hear Bennett’s voice during the loading screen, announcing the death of the Colonel.

The other guy who wants the position is Jago, Hansen’s accountant. Hands want Bennett to take over due to the respect he inspires. An accountant leading the Barghest could diminish their influence.

Your task is to “convince” Jago to abandon his idea of replacing Hansen. Especially since he has decided to recruit the Voodoo boys. To achieve this, you will impersonate Aguilar, a living legend that represents the Cuban cartel. His single presence is enough to change Dogtown’s fate.

Hands will provide his behavioral imprint, a suit, and the Iconic Tier 5 Power Revolver “Mancinella”, which is included in our complete catalog of all Iconic Items from Phantom Liberty. After checking that the imprint works you’ll be good to go.

Talk to Jago

Head southeast of your current position. Jago will arrive there in a few hours, but first you must prepare. Go to the marked location. Get inside a filthy room and activate the imprint.

Before Jago arrives you must deal with the six Voodoo Boys in the area. It’s possible to approach them and talk to them but no matter what you say they will attack you.

Remember that when using a Behavioral Imprint it’s impossible to scan enemies, use grenades/healing items, and use different weapons. On the bright side, when playing as Aguilar your health pool is very large and health regeneration is super high.

Time to wait for Jago. Look for the big rock near the construction material.

After a short dialogue, he will realize who you are (or at least who you’re impersonating), but that doesn’t seem to impress him. No matter which dialogue option you choose, his bodyguard will die at your hands. Jago must know that this is as serious as it gets.

After taking down his bodyguard without much effort, Jago will comply. Also, he reveals that Bennett is dealing with Arasaka.

You must ask for proof, otherwise, the mission will end here. You’re given the time and location of a meeting Bennet will have with Arasaka. This is optional but I highly recommend that you continue playing the mission.

Have a “chat” with Bennett

Go to the place where the meeting is being held and eliminate Bennett’s driver, then get inside his car. Eventually, he will get in the car without suspecting anything.

It will come to the point where you can tell him to forget Arasaka or point out that Jago isn’t a problem. This choice doesn’t affect the outcome, but if you want the fun option pick the first one. Doing so will trigger a small boss fight. Picking the second will convince him to forget about Arasaka and he will head to the Black Sapphire without anything else happening.

Bennett is very fast and physically strong but so is Aguilar. I found it easier to defeat him by just punching him. Once his health is around thirty percent the fight will end, he will submit and then leave after understanding who’s in charge.

Go to the Black Sapphire

Now you just need to see it through to the end. Kurt Hansen’s funeral will also be the moment when his successor is appointed (by Aguilar, of course). Go to the Black Sapphire and find where to activate the behavioral imprint, it’s next to the entrance.

Choose who will be the new leader of Dogtown

Getting inside the Black Sapphire will be no problem. After taking the elevator Jago will welcome you and then both will walk toward the coffin that contains Kurt’s body. After a few seconds Bennett will join the conversation and dismiss the guards.

Choose who will be the new leader of Dogtown

This is where it gets interesting, the future of Dogtown depends on who will rule it and the decision is yours alone. Eventually, Bennett will ask for Jago’s list of contacts and he will refuse. There are three possible choices, all of them with a different outcome.

Choose who will be the new leader of Dogtown

Jago Dies

Picking “No. You do not get a new toy, Bennett” leads to Bennett killing Jago and his guards. Despite Bennett’s impulsive decision, you can’t do much about it. As a result, he will rule Dogtown on his own. He is a great soldier but certainly not the smartest person, without Kurt’s touch for politics his rule wouldn’t end up well.

Bennett Dies

The result for choosing “A Fair price, Jago. One you will pay.” is Jago sending his contacts list to Bennett. Immediately after this, Bennett pulls out a gun and aims it at Jago. The only way to stop Bennett is if you have a Reflex stat of ten.

Assuming this is the case, Bennett will die by your hand and Jago will take over as the new leader of Dogtown. He will also transfer eight thousand eddies as a small thank you. Hands will be very displeased with this outcome and his disapproval will reflect on the payment.

There’s a shard that can be looted from Bennett’s body. It reveals his alliance with a mysterious woman named Susan and her instructions to obtain Jago’s contact list and then kill him. It’s unclear who’s this woman but I assume it’s an Arasaka representative.

Jago and Bennett rule together

The third option “Show your weapon | You would plunge Dogtown into chaos?” is arguably the best one. Your clear threat will prevent both of them from trying anything stupid.

They will agree to work together. Mr Hands will be extremely pleased; Bennett will serve as leader with Jago advising him. This is probably the only way Dogtown thrives, and it’s all thanks to you.

Who should you pick and why

None of the choices affect the outcome of either Phantom Liberty or the base game story. In terms of rewards, there’s only a difference of four thousand eddies so monetary compensation isn’t an important factor here.

The best choice is to let both of them rule together. Right from the start it’s very obvious that both of them have very defined strengths and weaknesses. Letting them work together will keep things balanced and the most important thing is that no one will be unchecked.

Dogtown is already in a critical state, leaving anyone who wants power with the impression that they can simply grab it would lead to absolute chaos and that’s not good for business.

This concludes our guide to the optional side job “Run this town” in Phantom Liberty. If you want to hunt down all new Iconic items in Phantom Liberty, we have all of them available in our catalog.
