This guide will explain how to start and complete the side job “The Beast in Me” in Cyberpunk 2077 along with all possible rewards and outcomes resulting from your decisions!
How to unlock “The Beast In Me” mission
This side job will be unlocked after completing the main quest “Double life” in the base game. Claire, the bartender of the Afterlife will call and offer you to participate in a few illegal races.
Keep in mind that you will need a fast car if your purpose is to finish this series of quests in one go. Spending a lot of money on a fast car might not be a priority for some players so my suggestion is that you get the Outlaw “Weiler” car.
It is very fast and fairly easy to drive compared to other rides, if you use it these races will be almost easy. The best thing is that you can get it for free after completing a few jobs for “El Capitan”.
Completing this mission after the 2.1 update unlocks the repeatable car races.
The Beast In Me Walkthrough
After accepting Claire’s proposal you’ll have to head to her garage. Once there, wait a few hours and then talk to her. The objective is very straightforward, compete in three different races and qualify for a final race where the stakes and rewards will be a lot higher.
City Center Race
The first race takes place in the City Center, the closest travel point is Skyline East.
Once you get there, find the correct spot near the bench. Since the “mission” is the same color as the sidewalk it might be hard to find it, and if you’re an easily distractable person like myself you might end up wondering why the mission’s not triggering.
You will have to race against five contenders, Claire will be the co-pilot and her job is to shoot them to slow them down. In this first race, it doesn’t impact the other racers’ performance. If you’re driving a weaponized vehicle my advice would be to refrain from shooting, it will only serve as a distraction.
Accelerating at top speed can backfire very easily, there are a few curves that aren’t easy to anticipate and one bad maneuver could result in you ending up at the bottom standings.
For the last two checkpoints, you’ll have to go in a straight line, this is the only moment where going at full speed won’t come with any risks.
Winning the race or ending in the top places will make Claire very happy. Once it’s over, Claire will drop you at her garage. Now it’s simply a matter of waiting a day (or skipping 24 hours) before she contacts you again for the next race.
Badlands Race
The second race is in the Badlands, there’s no fast travel point so you’ll have to get there by driving your favorite car or bike. This is by far the most unique race, though it can be frustrating.
This is the only race where you can’t use V’s car. It might appear to be a bad idea to use Claire’s “Beast” but there’s a very good reason for this. Most of this race takes place in the desert, so driving a fast or lightweight car would be a considerable disadvantage.
The track is full of bumps, rocks, and irregular terrain. The “Beast” is perfect for this environment due to its heavy weight. Additionally, enemy cars can be destroyed so make sure to help Clair by shooting them but only when it doesn’t come with a lot of risk.
This truck is sturdy but its acceleration and speed might not be enough to pull off a comeback if you fall too far behind.
Close to the fifteenth checkpoint, a sandstorm will block most of your visibility. Don’t panic, just focus on staying on top of the yellow line. There’s a segment with very limited space, you should attack other racers but don’t make it a priority during the sandstorm segment.
Remember that it’s not necessary to win to qualify for the final race. Go back to Claire’s garage and then wait for another day before she contacts you for the third race.
Santo Domingo Race
The closest fast travel point is the Metro: Wollesen ST. It’s just a few feet from there.
Like with every other race, call Claire once you’re at the right spot. Then everything will be ready to go.
This race has a lot of closed curves, sometimes it might look like you can really go at full speed but for this one, you should maintain just enough speed to be in the first place(s). There are many small segments where you can make your opponents crash or lose control.
Talking With Claire
After finishing the race Claire will ask V to pull up. This is where she finally opens up about why this means so much to her. Her husband died in a race, and the man she blames for his death is called Sampson. He will be at the big race, and Claire wants some payback.
After a few dialogues, Claire will ask for you to help her kill Sampson. What you say will define the possible outcomes of this mission. For the best outcome refuse her request by choosing the option “Sorry, Claire, but I can’t help.”
She’s gonna ask if you’re going to simply walk away. Tell her that you will still be her driver but only to win the race. She will be satisfied with this answer and then she’ll drive away. Wait a day for her final call.
The Big Race
The Big Race takes place in Charter Hill, Westbrook. The closest fast travel point is “Luxury apartments”.
Oddly enough, this is the easiest race of all four. Sampson isn’t that fast, you may have to slow down multiple times to stay behind him. Winning the race is optional, doing so will lock away the best rewards for the mission.
After reaching a certain point, Sampson’s car will get damaged and he will abandon the race, following him will have the same result for you.
Seconds later he’ll get hit by a truck and his car will get completely destroyed. Sampson survives the crash, but perhaps he might not survive Claire.
Deciding Sampson’s Fate
He’s at Claire’s Mercy, with no way to run or defend himself the only thing he can do is talk his way out. Sampson claims that the death of Claire’s husband was not a personal thing, but an accident that’s not uncommon in this type of race. You should pick every dialogue option that is about convincing Claire not to kill Sampson.
Remember the conversation with Claire after the Santo Domingo race? If you said that you’d help her kill Sampson, Claire would shoot him in cold blood no matter what you say.
If you agreed to drive but only to win, then Claire will be able to control her rage and Sampson will survive. He might be a prick, but he doesn’t deserve to die like that.
After completing this, Claire will officially retire from racing. Since she won’t need it anymore, her “Beast” now belongs to you. You will get it as long as you follow Sampson.
After a few days, Sampson will send a message thanking you for not letting Claire kill him. You will also get his car! If Sampson dies, Claire will let you buy the car after it’s been repaired.
The only way to miss these rewards is if you finish the race, for completing the race V will get some street creds, XP, and eddies but getting two unique vehicles is a lot better.
Repeatable Races
Three days after completing the job “The Beats in Me”, you’ll receive a message from a guy called Jim Jarry. He will invite you to participate in multiple races for a chance to win ten thousand eddies and autofixer discounts. Be mindful that in order to participate in each race you must pay the fee of two thousand eddies.
These races are completely different from the ones you already did, if money and speed are two of your favorite things then this is perfect for you!
In our guide to the repeatable races in Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.1, we have shared a lot of details about the differences between the original race tracks and the repeatable versions, along with tips on how to best prepare for them and win each time!
There are lots of new things in 2.1, a new metro system, new cyberware, quality of life changes, and much more. To get more in-depth information regarding all the changes and new features you can check the 2.1 changes overview.
