Disney reveals their plans for Din Djarin, Grogu and Ahsoka

Disney has announced a new film that will feature our favorite duo. They also revealed the future of the Ahsoka series!

Since the ending of Ahsoka, we haven’t heard much about Disney’s plans for Star Wars in 2024. But today, January 9th,2024 Disney has officially announced that our favorite duo, Din Djarin, and Grogu will make their debut on the big screen.

“The Mandalorian and Grogu” will go into production later this year. Sadly, there are no details regarding release dates. The film is going to be produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Kathleen Kennedy.

“The Mandalorian and Grogu” is a very ambiguous title, it’s probably just something temporary to avoid revealing anything related to the plot of the film.

Is this the film they promised us during SWC 2023?

During Star Wars Celebration 2023, three movies were announced. One of them would be the culmination of The Mandalorian’s story and its director was originally supposed to be none other than Dave Filoni but according to the announcement article, Jon Favreau will be the one directing the film.

When I first heard about their intentions to end the Mandoverse on the big screen I pictured it as the Star Wars equivalent of Avengers Infinity War/Endgame.

So many storylines leading to one incredible moment where many beloved characters join forces to defeat an all-mighty enemy. Ahsoka, Bo-Katan, Din Djarin, Grogu, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Sabine, Ezra, Hera, and maybe even Luke Skywalker.

My first assumption was to think that this is the film that was talked about but the wording on the last paragraph of the article is making me have second thoughts.

The Mandalorian & Grogu will lead Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature-development slate, including films helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni, who is also currently developing Ahsoka Season 2, among those in the works.”

If I understand correctly, this film will be an addition to the three that we already know of. And since its production will begin before Season 2 of Ahsoka I’m inclined to believe that the release date will also be before it.

Assuming the plan to wrap up everything in one final film is still up, then said movie would only come out after the second season of Ahsoka.

Hopefully, we’ll learn more about their plans soon, but that might not be the case considering that the next Star Wars Celebration won’t happen until 2025. Nonetheless, this is a very exciting announcement.

But wait…there’s more: Ahsoka Season 2

The brief article that reveals this big news highlights everything surrounding The Mandalorian, it’s important to point out that it also confirmed the development of a second season for Ahsoka.

While the first season was very enjoyable for me, there are many things that I would have liked to see more. Without the certainty of a second season, I was worried that the movie would feel very rushed, the last thing I want as a fan is to have many things left out just for the sake of wrapping up things.

But with a second season of Ahsoka, I’m a little more confident that they’ll develop all the remaining storylines accordingly. Grand Admiral Thrawn is about to turn the galaxy upside down with the help of the Nightsisters. This statement is something that would have sounded incredibly delusional just a few years ago but now it’s a reality.

Season 2 of Ahsoka should reunite characters from The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and maybe even The Book of Boba Fett. Moff Gideon was the main antagonist throughout the story of the “Mandoverse” but the New Republic only considered him a minor threat.

With Grand Admiral Thrawn free to roam the galaxy, it’s just a matter of time before everyone is involved in an inevitable conflict. The New Republic, Nightsisters, Mandalorians, crime lords, Imperial Remnants. No one is going to be safe.

What are your expectations for “The Mandalorian and Grogu” and Season 2 of Ahsoka?
