Respawn released Patch 8 for Star Wars Jedi Survivor. This patch is available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S and is focused on quality of life and accessibility touches.

High Contrast Mode

A new function in Jedi Survivor is the High Contrast Mode. This mode toggles the visuals so that the environment is desaturated while using colors for narrative and gameplay elements of the game. This way you’ll be able to tell which items can be interacted with in some manner and which ones are just purely part of the environment.

Within the Accessibility Menu in Settings, you’ll find the option to toggle High Contrast Mode. When toggled on, the environment will be desaturated while interactable objects, key objects, the player, etc. gain a bright color. You can choose the color of the various objects found within Jedi Survivor.

With this feature toggled on, you can more easily tell which ledges you can climb, rocks you can push, and friendly NPC or enemy NPCs, it’s a nice feature for those who may have some form of visual impairment. Some objects such as ships will appear fully colored but with a higher contrast compared to their standard look.

If you’re not a fan of the desaturated background, you can turn up the saturation. In the following image, the saturation for the environment was turned up to 100%. Even with full saturation, you can still easily tell apart interactable objects.

Audio Pings

Another new feature found under the Accessibility settings is the Audio Ping setting. Whenever you walk by an interactable object, the game will produce a gentle ping sound reminiscent of a low-pitched chime. This type of ping is known as the Passive Ping.

The Active Sonar Ping allows you to actively ping the environment around you to find nearby objects. This acts as a form of echolocation where you can adjust the sonar radius and speed to your desired settings.

Additional Slow Motion Presets

The final addition to this accessibility update is the inclusion of three new Slow Motion Presets. These presets are available in the Shortcut menu and the new presets are set to 30%, 50%, and 75%.

Slow Motion is flow players who might have trouble keeping up with higher action encounters with multiple enemies. If combat starts, this allows the players to experience slow motion while in combat to more easily keep up. With these new presets, you can pick one and spend less time fine-tuning your slow motion speed.

Patch 8 Patch Notes

Below you can read the brief official patch notes Respawn published on January 11, 2024:

  • This patch introduces two new features and several improvements to Slow Motion in order to make Star Wars Jedi: Survivor accessible to even more players.
    • A new high contrast mode allows players to desaturate the environment and use colors specifically for narrative and gameplay elements, making them stand out more.
    • A new audio ping functionality allows players to both passively and actively ping the environment, giving the ability to echolocate objects and interactable elements nearby.
    • This update includes additional slow motion presets. With this new implementation players can toggle between both their own custom value and three new presets.
      • The presets are set at 30%, 50% and 75% and available through the shortcut menu. This will allow users to switch between multiple different slow motion values, and not just the custom value and the default game speed.
