Two of the most recent Star Wars live-action series, Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi will be released in physical format later this year!
Streaming services have allowed us to watch endless hours of our favorite content from the comfort of our homes, hotel rooms, and even offices. Having thousands of shows and movies at our disposal is extremely convenient but this didn’t come without a sacrifice.
But streaming services aren’t perfect, some platforms collapse when a new show airs (I’m talking to you, HBO) and you still need an internet connection which sometimes might not be easy to get depending on where you live and your ISP.
The biggest downsides are some of the policies of these services like not being able to share an account with someone out of your household. In addition to this, the subscription prices will never stop increasing and the fact that inflation has hit almost every product doesn’t help.
Paying a single streaming service is something that many people can afford but once you start to add the prices of services like Spotify, Amazon Prime, Disney+, HBO MAX, Crunchyroll and Netflix things can get quite expensive.
Not having a choice but to pay a subscription just to watch our favorite Star Wars shows and movies isn’t very consumer-friendly. The solution to this is either to visit some shady online websites or buy physical media, but that can only happen if the companies release the content in physical format.
The fact that we can’t own most of our favorite media bothers many people, especially those born before the 2000s. Buying that special edition DVD, carefully taking it out of the box, and watching the additional content for the first time was something unique and fun.
But not everything’s bad news, at least for Star Wars fans. In December 2023, Disney released the first and second seasons of The Mandalorian in Blu-ray/4K UHD. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series and the first season of Andor will arrive on physical media on April 30th, 2024!
Star Wars fans are some of the most dedicated when it comes to buying and collecting merchandise, and being able to add the recent series to our collections is something that many fans will be happy about. Let’s hope that eventually, every live-action and animated series gets this treatment so that we can enjoy them without being chained to a paid subscription.
With that said, let’s see everything we can expect to get in the physical releases of Andor and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series!
