Tales of the Empire: Release Date and Trailer Breakdown

Adrian by Adrian|

The official trailer reveals that all six episodes of Tales of the Empire will be released at once just like Tales of the Jedi did. You can watch all of them May 4th, 2024.

The voice cast includes Diana Lee Inosanto (Morgan Elsbeth), Meredith Salenger (Barriss Offee), Rya Kihlstedt (Lyn, aka Fourth Sister), Wing T. Chao (Wing), Lars Mikkelsen (Thrawn), Jason Isaacs (Grand Inquisitor) and Matthew Wood (General Grievous).

Morgan Elsbeth’s Origin

The first season of Ahsoka revealed that Morgan Elsbeth is a Nightsister of Dathomir. As we know, the witches of Dathomir were wiped out by General Grievous and his battle droid army during the Clone Wars.

Morgan is one out of three survivors, the other two being Asajj Ventress and Merrin. It has never been revealed if any of them know about the existence of the other two but one thing they do share is the desire to avenge their fallen sisters.

The thirst for revenge will lead Elsbeth to Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Galactic Empire. To be honest, I’m not sure how she ends up siding with the people that wiped her clan. She was probably another victim of lies and deception, this wouldn’t be the first time that an important character is deceived this way.

General Grievous was also tricked into joining the CIS by Dooku and Palpatine after blaming the Jedi for the massacre of his people. Speaking of which, he looks phenomenal in the trailer! I’m not sure what it is, but he reminds me a lot of the Grievous we first saw in the Genndy Tartakovsky Clone Wars show that aired in 2003.

The Tales of the Empire trailer shows what to expect from this short series. We will see how Morgan deals with the loss of her sisters, her approach to Thrawn, and how she takes over Corvus.

Some scenes show her in a very similar look to what we saw in the second season of The Mandalorian so I’m anticipating that we will also witness the beginnings of her search for Grand Admiral Thrawn after his defeat in the Battle of Lothal.

Barriss Offee’s Fate

For more than ten years we’ve been asking and theorizing about what happened to Barriss Offee. The bombing of the Jedi Temple and her attempt to blame Ahsoka for it was one of the most important moments of the Clone Wars but we never learned her fate after the fall of the Galactic Republic.

Many arrived at the conclusion that she was recruited as an Inquisitor and that she became the Seventh Sister. I’m not sure about the second part but at least we can now confirm that she joined the Inquisitorious.

I am super excited to see all three episodes about her. Stories like Rise of the Red Blade delve deeper into what it is to become an Inquisitor but this will be the first time that we actually see it on a screen. To join the group led by the Grand Inquisitor one must be committed to embracing the dark side of the Force, those who aren’t fit for it are eliminated.

The trailer also shows the Inquisitor that Ahsoka defeated in Tales of the Jedi, and Marrok, one of the three mercenaries hired by Morgan Elsbeth to help in the search for Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Learning that Barriss became an Inquisitor is great, but now this opens a new question. What happened to her? One scene of the trailer shows two Inquisitors fighting a Jedi. This Jedi is a female Mirialan, the same species as Barriss Offee.

It would be easy to assume that somehow she will be redeemed and fight the other Inquisitors but I really don’t think this is the case. My theory is that the Jedi shown in this trailer is her former master, Luminara Unduli.

Luminara is also a Mirialan so it would be very easy to mistake her for Barriss. My small theory is based on the fact that the Grand Inquisitor used the body of Luminara to lure Ezra and Kanan on Star Wars Rebels. It was a shocking moment but we never got answers about how that happened.

Dave Filoni has been on a quest to clear as many unanswered questions as possible and in my opinion, Barriss fighting Luminara would be a perfect way to close this chapter.

What do you think is going to happen?
