Nixxes released today a new patch for the Complete Edition of Horizon Forbidden West. 1.2.48 brings a few much-needed fixes for keyboard and mouse among other improvements for the game.

1.2.48 Changes Highlights

This week’s patch, labeled 1.2.48, was not big in file size nor in number of fixes and changes. It released on Thursday April 11th. Nixxes describes it this way:

This update further improves stability and contains bugfixes and optimizations based on player feedback. We’ve addressed stutters that could occur on specific locations and resolved visual corruption on the map that could occur on AMD Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards.

But I want to highlight a few other changes from this patch! For me personally the two key fixes are the Weapon Wheel Mouse Cursor placement and the key binding reset bug.

Let’s take a closer look!

Weapon Wheel and Cursor Position

I personally prefer to play Horizon Forbidden West with Keyboard and Mouse because of the higher level of control and precision I have (especially for aiming).

An annoying bug was present in the game where when you open the Weapons Wheel, the mouse cursor will sometimes get displaced. Today I was very happy to read in the patch notes that the bug has been fixed. And it really has (tested it). As of 1.2.48 the cursor will be placed in the middle of the Weapon Wheel when you open it.

Weapon Wheel and Cursor Position - Horizon Forbidden West Patch 1.2.48

Last week’s fix that allowed us to remap the TAB button was amazing. Most of the Horizon fans that played the first game on a PC with keyboard and mouse were probably very used to opening the Weapons Wheel with TAB and until 1.1.47 this was simply not possible. You were not able to remap TAB to do anything else except open the map in-game.

After today’s patch you can not only use TAB to access the Weapon Wheel, but the cursor will also be always placed in the middle, so you know where to find it every single time. Great!

Keybinding Reset Issue

If you have attempted to remap some of the key bindings to something different from default, you may have experienced a bug where when you clear a shortcut, it gets reset to the default preset after you restart the game.

After today’s patch, when clearing a key binding, it will no longer reset to the default key after you restart the game.

Learning Skills Automatically Unintentionally

If you had the Menu Hold Actions Toggle setting enabled, you may have experienced a bug where you automatically learn a skill as soon as you show the information about it in the Skill menu.

This bug is now fixed and you will not have this problem any more. I personally avoid using Toggles in Horizon Forbidden West. As explained in our Controls Guide, it is better to have complete control of what happens and when. On higher difficulties you need fast reflexes and in combat it is better to not use Toggle.

This doesn’t necessarily apply to Menu actions, but I personally see no added value to having a Toggle for Menu Actions. Maybe that’s why I never had this issue happening to me.

You can find the Toggle option and its customizations in the Keyboard and Mouse tab in the main menu. Click on “Hold/Toggle” at the end of the list and select “Custom”.
