Guide to all Item Locations at Castle Ensis and Fog Rift Fort in Shadow of the Erdtree – weapons, talismans, spells, rare items, and how to reach tricky areas!
This guide is up-to-date for Elden Ring Update 1.14
Please note that this guide only contains the locations of rare and unique items; I didn’t note locations that just give you more common loot like crafting materials, Smithing Stones, or Golden Runes. FromSoftware likes to use the promise of an item to help show you where you can go, even if it’s not that valuable.

How to get to Castle Ensis and Fog Rift Fort
Castle Ensis is the home of Rellana, the Twin Moon Knight and sister to Rennala, the Full Moon Queen and respec lady at the Academy of Raya Lucaria. Rellana chose to renounce her birthright as princess of Caria in order to follow Messmer to the Realm of Shadow.
Fog Rift Fort is a little sub-area that’s part of the same real estate as Castle Ensis, but it’s only reachable from Scadu Altus, which means you have to either go around or defeat Rellana.
How to reach Castle Ensis
Castle Ensis sits on the border between the Gravesite Plains and Scadu Altus, across the Ellac Greatbridge. Just head north on the main road in Gravesite Plains and you’ll end up there.
How to reach Fog Rift Fort
There isn’t a gate to Fog Rift Fort. Instead, you need to cross or go around the “river” that causes the waterfalls surrounding Castle Ensis. There’s a point where you can drop down onto the fort’s rampart near the Castle Ensis Belfry and Scadu Altus West, Site of Grace.
Weapons
There are 5 weapons you can acquire here, 4 of them are at Castle Ensis and there’s 1 at Fog Rift Fort.
Milady
Milady is a Light Greatsword, one of the new weapon classes in Shadow of the Erdtree.
You can loot the Ash of War: Wing Stance from a chest in an outer tower overlooking Ensis Moongazing Grounds, accessible by jumping off the balcony at the Castle Lord’s Chamber.
Carian Sorcery Sword
The Carian Sorcery Sword is a unique thrusting sword that allows you to cast Sorceries instead of having a regular strong attack.
You can loot the Carian Sorcery Sword from a chest on top of the main building at Castle Ensis. You can’t (practically) reach that area until after you’ve defeated Rellana and can cross the river and drop down onto the roof near the portal Belfry.
Moonrithyll’s Knight Sword
Moonrithyll’s Knight Sword is is a special version of the Troll Knight Sword with a Unique Skill that’s uses Greatblades in its phalanx instead of regular Glintblades like the Ash of War.
You receive Moonrityll’s Knight Sword for defeating Moonrithyll, Carian Knight, a named NPC guarding the Lazuli Sorcerers who came with Rellana to the Shadow Realm.
Rellana’s Twin Blades
Rellana’s Twin Blades are a pair of Light Greatswords that are reminiscent of the Sword of Night and Flame. Like the Starscourge Greatswords, the Twin Blades take up a single equipment slot, and two-handing pulls out the other sword in the other hand. The fire sword is always in the left hand and the magic sword is always in the right.
You can purchase Rellana’s Twin Blades from Finger Reader Enia at the Roundtable Hold in exchange for the Remembrance of the Twin Moon Knight.
Serpent’s Flail
Serpent’s Flail is a flail (shocker, I know), that scales with Faith in addition to Strength and Dexterity and features a Unique Skill that causes your next attack that strikes the ground to trigger an explosion. In effect, it lets you pre-charge your strong attack.
You can loot the Serpent’s Flail from a chest protected by an entire battalion wielding flamethrowers inside the Fog Rift Fort.
Shields
There are 2 shields, one of them is at Castle Ensis proper, and the other is at Fog Rift Fort.
Wolf Crest Shield
The Wolf Crest Shield is one of the heavier Medium Shields and features 100% physical damage negation as well as the Carian mascot.
You can loot the Wolf Crest Shield in the same building where you fight Moonrythill. There are some stairs outside that take you down to a lower level. They’re on the right as you’re facing the chapel.
Black Steel Greatshield
The Black Steel Greatshield is one of the heavier Greatshields wielded by Black Knights and boasts an exceptional 84% Holy Damage Negation. It has a Strength Requirement of 35, putting it inbetween the Golden and Haligtree Crest Greatshields.
You receive the Black Steel Greatshield from Black Knight Garrew, the mini-boss at F(r)og Rift Fort.
Ash of War: Wing Stance
Ash of War: Wing Stance is the only Ash of War at Castle Ensis or Fog Rift Fort. It only applies to Light Greatswords, but it effectively gives you 2 attacks since it applies them as a stance.
You can loot the Ash of War: Wing Stance from a chest in an outer tower overlooking Ensis Moongazing Grounds, accessible by jumping off the balcony at the Castle Lord’s Chamber.
Talismans
There are 3 Talismans you can loot on the premises, 2 of them is at Castle Ensis proper, and the other is at Fog Rift Fort. There’s a third Talisman you get using the Imbued Sword Key, but that’s a longer process, so we’ll cover that in a dedicated section.
Rellana’s Cameo
Rellana’s Cameo effectively allows you to “charge” your stances by holding them active for a couple of seconds before engaging. Just hold the stance without using an attack and you’ll see red lines appear, indicating that the 15% damage boost this talisman gives you is active. It lasts as long as you remain in that stance.
You can loot Rellana’s Cameo from the chapel guarded by Moonrithyll at Castle Ensis.
Rellana’s Cameo talisman is one of the core components recommended for the Rellana Build.
Spelldrake Talisman +3
The Spelldrake Talisman +3 boosts your Magic Damage Negation by what seems to be a variable amount, though it’s the same amount stronger than base, +1, and +2 versions. The Magic Damage Negation provided by Spelldrake Talisman +3 can be quantified as a multiplicative 35-50% boost or an additive 16-20%.
All of the Drake Talismans appear to change the percentage, not your relevant Defense stat, but applies a greater effect the lower your associated Damage Negation percentage is. It’s as if diminishing returns are being applied to the percentage, not the stat as one might expect.
You can loot the Spelldrake Talisman +3 from a corpse in a cellar at the very front of Castle Ensis.
Technically, this Talisman is not part of Castle Ensis or Fog Rift Fort as a legacy dungeon, but its inside the castle itself, so I opted to include it.
From the Castle Front Site of Grace, head northwest towards the Bloodfiends and then turn right to go down the slope under the bridge towards the bats. There’s a small spot you can jump across to reach the cellar.
Arrow’s Soaring Sting
The Arrow’s Soaring Sting talisman gives you a third dedicated buff to bows and arrows. Note that the range boost only applies to bows, not (heavy) crossbows while the damage boost applies to both arrows and bolts..
You can loot the Arrow’s Soaring Sting Talisman from a chest at the top of the tower at the end of the rampart at Fog Rift Fort.
Imbued Sword Key, Castle Ensis Belfry, and Talsiman
There is an Imbued Sword Key that you can use to activate a portal at the Castle Ensis Belfry so you can get the Verdigris Discus Talisman. The Castle Ensis Belfry works just like the Four Belfries do in Liurnia. You get teleported to a small, isolated area, defeat a strong enemy you’ll face there in the future.
Castle Ensis Imbued Sword Key
You can loot the Imbued Sword Key from a chest at the end of the rampart leading to the Castle Lord’s Chamber, right after one of Messmer’s Soldiers jumped out and speared you, and right before you have to face off against a Black Knight.
Castle Ensis Belfry Portal
You can only reach the Castle Ensis Belfry Portal from Scadu Altus. You’ll either need to defeat Rellana, or take the long way around by using Spiritsprings to get into the Fort of Reprimand.
There’s a Site of Grace nearby, Scadu Altus West, but you don’t need to go that far to reach the Castle Ensis Belfry, just cross the river onto the island.
Verdigris Discus Talisman
The Castle Ensis Belfry Portal takes you to an isolated area in the heart of Rauh Ruins, to the northeast. There, you’ll need to defeat a Horned Warrior, and can loot the Verdigris Discus Talisman.
The area is fairly large for a Belfry, the talisman is in the back at an altar.
Sorceries and Incantations
There are 2 Sorceries you can obtain from Castle Ensis, but no Incantations.
Glintblade Trio
Glintblade Trio conjures 3 Glintblades. Each of them individually weaker than the one produced by Magic Glintblade and the spell can’t be casted while moving or spammed, but their overall firing time is faster and they deal more damage combined.
You can loot Glintblade Trio from a dangling corpse at Castle Ensis overlooking the stairs leading to the chest with the Wolf Crest Shield in it.
In order to reach this spot, you have to head through the gate you open that leads to the rampart section, and then drop down onto the ground, then use ladders to climb onto the roof.
Rellana’s Twin Moons
Rellana’s Twin Moons create a devastating 3-stage AoE centered beneath you, where both moons get slammed one at a time, and then you stab your Scepter into the ground with a slightly larger and more powerful attack.
You can purchase Rellana’s Twin Moons from Finger Reader Enia at the Roundtable Hold in exchange for the Remembrance of the Twin Moon Knight.
Cookbooks
There are 2 cookbooks, one of them is at Castle Ensis, and the other is at Fog Rift Fort.
Loyal Knight’s Cookbook
The Loyal Knight’s Cookbook teaches you how to craft Royal Magic Grease, both regular and Drawstring varieties.
You can loot the Loyal Knight’s Cookbook from a chest inside the building down the slope from the Castle Ensis Checkpoint Cross.
Greater Potentate’s Cookbook [3]
The Greater Potentate’s Cookbook [3] teaches you how to craft Hefty Oil Pots.
You can loot the Greater Potentate’s Cookbook [3] from a corpse on an outcropping connected by some wooden scaffolding that overlooks the Fog Rift. This particular item is only accessible from Fog Rift Fort.
Miquella’s Cross
You’ll find Miquella’s Cross at Castle Ensis in the middle of the main castle as the first Site of Grace inside. There aren’t any NPCs, but there is a note from Needle Knight Leda, and as always, a Scadutree Fragment.
Starlight Shards
Starlight Shards are rare consumables that make you recover 120 FP over the course of 60s (2 FP/s) and are the currency required to purchase Puppet (Spirit Ashes) from Preceptor Seluvis in the base game. You can find 2 of them at Castle Ensis.
Rooftop Catcher
You can loot a Starlight Shard from a corpse on a roof reachable from the eastern waterfall.
Starlight Collector Dish
You can loot a Starlight Shard from its collector dish at Castle Ensis.
Castle Ensis Boss Items
You receive the Remembrance of the Twin Moon Knight for defeating Rellana at the end of Castle Ensis at the Ensis Moongazing Grounds.
You can exchange the Remembrance of the Twin Moon Knight for either Rellana’s Twin Blades (Light Greatsword) or Rellana’s Twin Moons (Sorcery) with Finger Reader Enia at the Rountable Hold.
In addition, you can purchase Rellana’s armor set from the Finger Reader for 45,000 Runes. Check out our Rellana’s Armor Set and Twin Blades Guide for a preview of what the set looks like with her Twin Blades and full stats for each item.
Check out our Rellana Build Guide for more information on how to combine many of the items you got from Castle Ensis into a fun and unique playstyle.
