Elden Ring Old Radahn vs Young Lion Armor Sets and Weapons: Side-by-Side Comparison

In Shadow of the Erdtree, you unlock the ability to wear the armor that Radahn wore back when he was a “Young Lion”, before he had conquered the stars.

Radahn’s Old vs New Armor and Swords Visual Comparison

We’ll be showing the unaltered versions without his swords, followed by the altered version, which removes the cape where we’ll have him whip out his swords.

Radahn’s Old Vs New Armor Preview

Radahn’s Young Lion set does not use the color palette used by the rest of the game’s armor, so you won’t be able to mix and match Radahn’s set with just about anything else. It’s a real shame too, as it would have been nice a tattered, filthy rug as a cape.

The only reason I can think of that FromSoftware, a studio that worships the devil in the details, would make the armor sets look so different color-wise is because they didn’t feel they looked different enough, but the sets are quite distinct.

Radahn’s Redmane is braided and styled while the red color is brighter and more vibrant. This more manicured look applies to the manes around the lions on the pauldrons too.

The new headpiece loses the black frock and sports a more vertical Young Lion head, which helps the hair look less unruly as it starts more slicked back while creating the impression of a larger head.

This extra prominence is on display throughout the armor, young Radahn like he has a larger presence. The set doesn’t have as much intricate detail either, so it’s easier to discern the features, like those abs and the lion on his chest.

The Young Lion set also has shorter manes and replaces the fur on the gauntlets with Omen horns, a reference to Mohg’s body being the vessel for Radahn’s spirit. The Promised Consort also occasionally lacerates the Formless Mother to produce Bloodflame.

The belt is the only other place that looks different is the belt. Old Radahn has a wide metal belt with longer tassels and hip plates while Young Lion has a leather belt and dangly fabric pieces in lieu of those hip plates.

Radahn’s Greatswords and Altered Appearance Comparison

We’re looking at the visual differences between the Scarscourge Greatsword and Greatswords of Radahn, as well as the altered version of the chestpiece.

Staying faithful to the description of the Starscourge Greatswords, the gravity crest is engraved over the same swords he used when he was young. Really, he just added a concentric circles around the reeds to depict gravity.

The Young Lion armor set improves upon old Radahn’s set by having a bit more going on in the back. We can see that the belt has a full waist cape with breaks to avoid inhibiting mobility.

The Young Lion set also has rings on the back of the belt, which add a much needed bit of detail, though it is a bit odd to see such ornateness on the back with a leather belt in the front.

Radahn’s Old and Yound Lion Armor Set Descriptions

None of the descriptions are super informative. The guy likes lions (and Miquella). You can see a bit more of the detail on individual pieces and a clearer difference on the color pallete shift.

Radahn’s Old vs New Armor and Greatswords Stats Comparison

Despite looking more imposing, the Young Lion’s armor set is just a slightly lighter version of the old Radahn set. Old Radahn’s set weighs 41.6 vs 35.7, which is equal to about 5 points of Endurance towards Equip Load.

Radahn’s Greatswords Comparison

All three of the weapons function the same with regard to two-handing where you dual wield a pair of greatswords. Given their significant weight, you are only meant to equip a single one of these weapons. You are not meant to use a different one in each hand.

The Greatswords of Radahn are identical to each other except for Unique Skill. It’s odd to have 2 versions of this weapon at all when they could have accomplished the same thing by making it a stance weapon like Rellana’s Twin Blades instead of costing an extra Remembrance.

Perhaps they didn’t want it to be superior to the Starscourge Greatsword, though they could have turned that one into a stance weapon too…

Compared to the ol’ Starscourge, all 3 Greatswords blades have identical scaling with the Starscourge having ever so slightly higher base damage and lower total stat requirements (38 Str + 12 Dex vs 32 Str + 24 Dex) while having the best Skill too (in my opinion).

How to get Radahn’s Old and New Armor Set and Greatswords

Everything is boss equipment, so you’ll be paying a visit to Finger Reader Enia at the Roundtable Hold after defeating Starscourge Radahn on the beach north of Redmane Castle in Caelid and Consort Radahn at Enir-Ilim, the structure above Belurat, Tower City after burning away the Shadow.

Radahn’s old armor set costs a combined total of 36,000 Runes, while the Young Lion armor set costs a combined total of 56,000 Runes. You can also purchase Radahn’s Spears (Greatarrows) for 800 Runes a pop to use with his Lion Greatbow.

You can exchange the Remembrance of the Starscourge for either the Starscourge Greatswords or Lion Greatbow, and the Remembrance of a God and a Lord for either of the Greatswords of Radahn (Lord | Light) or Light of Miquella (Incantation).
