This guide will help you learn the basics of lockpicking in Star Wars Outlaws. This simple yet fun mini-game will test your timing and ability to keep pace with the door’s rhythm.

How Lockpicking works in Star Wars Outlaws

The Lockpicking mechanic becomes available early on in the game after you meet with Preeban and pay 100 credits to repair your Data Spike. It allows you to override locks of containers and boxes which contain valuables such as rare loot or credits.

After talking to Preeban, you’ll be able to test the Data Spike on a nearby locked container. You’ll get an up-close view of the port, and now you must pay close attention to the sound and visuals of the lock.

The lock will make clicks and beeps, you’ll want to press the button that corresponds to “Lock In” when the lock beeps. You can also use the light on the right to know when to lock in with your data spike. Failure to lock in on time will cause you to restart all of your progress.

As a rhythm game, you’ll need to get a good feel for the lock before you commit to locking in. A good example of this is at Club Tarsus where you’re picking the lock in the office.

The lock here has two beeps close to one another followed by a pause. Take your time and when picking a lock with multiple beeps, you’ll need to lock in on all the beeps. If you lock in on some but not all, you’ll need to repeat the process until you hit all of them.

You can keep an eye out for anyone by using your looking around by using the same input for your movement when walking. If someone is getting too close and you need to hide, exit the lockpicking minigame and wait until the coast is clear.

Lockpicking Difficulty and Accessibility

If you’re having trouble with the mini-game or have a hearing impairment, you can toggle the Difficulty and Lockpicking Visual Cues under Settings > Gameplay > Slicing.

When the visual cues are activated, the center of the lock will have a white circle emit from it when it’s beeping. Pairing this with the yellow light to the side, it should make it easier for you if you need to be more visual

If you’re having too little trouble with this mini-game, you could try raising the difficulty. This will require you to be more precise with your lock-ins.

If you want to ignore lockpicking entirely, toggle Lockpicking Rhythm Challenge in the gameplay settings. This will allow you to use your data spike without any rhythm to quickly open up any locks.

If for any reason you need a reminder in-game on what to do, you can bring up the Help menu while lockpicking. This menu will remind you of the features in the lockpicking mini-game.
