This guide will show you all available activities you can do with Nix to make him happy and complete the requirement to unlock the Treasure Hunter ability from The Mechanic and Nix Commando ability from The Veteran in Star Wars Outlaws!
Nix is the best thing about Star Wars Outlaws. Making him happy should be your primary goal. But there is another reason to make him happy – two abilities you can learn depend on your sidekick being happy.
Unlocking the Mechanic expert
To find Selo and convince her to tune up your speeder and unlock her as an expert, you have to complete the quest The Mechanic, which starts with the Intel quest The Speeder Mechanic.
Immediately after you complete the quest New Tricks for Danka, she will give you two Intel quests. One for The Slicer and the other one for The Mechanic.
Unlocking The Veteran expert
The Veteran expert may be the last one you will unlock in the game. The process to unlock MT-7 is quite unique compared to the other experts.
To unlock MT-7, you must complete The Veteran quest after completing The Viper main quest, unlock the Mechanic expert and Scavenger expert, and find five CIS transmissions.
How to unlock the ability Treasure Hunter
The Treasure Hunter ability is one of the most imporetant abilities Kay would ever learn in the game. It allows you to mark in light blue any lootable containers nearby when using Nix’s senses mode.
Treasure chests contain outfit parts, cosmetics, credits and other valuable loot. You should look them up and use the map in the game to learn how many treasure chests are in the area you are currently exploring.
Allows Nix to provide audiovisual cues when nearby Containers are present. Additionally, Containers in range will now be highlighted by pressing B.
Requirements:
– Find 10 Containers
– Find 4 different ways to make Nix happy
– Use Nix to fetch an item
Two of those three tasks are pretty easy and you probably don’t need any help, but you could still take a look at our beginner-friendly guide to using Nix for some tips on how to use him.
How to unlock the abilty Nix Commando
The Nix Commando abililty is available from The Veteran expert MT-7. In the heat of the moment, having Nix automatically attacking to distract a second target without you having to micro-manage him, is very helpful.
After performing a Nix Attack command, Nix will be able to autonomously execute a second attack on another nearby enemy.
Requirements:
– Find 6 different ways to make Nix happy.
– Blast down 10 distracted enemies.
Ways to make Nix happy
There are several ways to make Nix happy in Star Wars Outlaws. Below I will give you some easy examples and locations where you can perform those activities to earn the extra happiness points with Nix.
Pet Nix
Approach Nix anywhere in the world and use the Nix mode. A button to pet him will appear. This will make the little Merqaal happy.
Use Speeder Boost
You unlock the Speeder Boost ability as soon as you complete The Mechanic quest for Selo and unlock her as an expert. Use Speeder Boos anywhere in the open world where the Speeder is allowed and Nix will nearly fly out of his seat, full of joy. Literally.
Play the Eating mini game with Nix
Sit at a vendor that makes food and complete the Eating mini game with Nix. The easiest location to visit is in Mirogana, on Toshara. You can do this at any point when you are at this location in the northern part of Mirogana, at the Market District.
If you don’t find the Galactic Street Food mini game fun, from the Gameplay menu you can tweak its difficulty or directly turn it off and auto-complete the games.
Trigger an explosion with Nix
Ask Nix to trigger a detonation. The bigger the explosion, the happier your sidekick will be. Actually, no matter how big the explosion, you still only get one point for the ability unlock. There is no requirement of taking out enemies with the explosion.
Grapple Hook over a gap
There are plenty of opportunities to use your Grapple Hook on Toshara to overcome a gap to fullfill the requirement to make Nix happy. The one I will show you is in the Fallen Mound, an area far to the east on Toshara.
We have a full walkthrough to the Fallen Mound. You will find two very useful items there:
- Smoke Bomb Compressor – used to unlock the Smoke Bomb ability from The Mechanic.
- Overgrown Amber Stone Major Charm, which will fit nicely into an early game Loadout build for Kay.
To reach the Fallen Mound and complete this mini puzzle, you need the Ion Blaster mode upgrade and the Speeder Boost ability. By the time you are working on the Treasure Hunter ability from The Mechanic expert, you should have both of those already.
Ask Nix to Trap an Alarm
You can unlock the ability to trap alarms with Nix. It’s called Sneaky Trap and is granted to you by The Slicer expert.
Allows Nix to trap Alarm Panels
Requirements:
– 7x Command Nix to perform different actions
– 3x Slice devices in 3 attempts or fewer
As we mentioned in our guide to all Experts in Star Wars Outlaws, unlocking this ability can take some time. Slicing devices in 3 attempts of fewer is also based on luck. To bring the “luck” factor down, you should go to an early areas in the game, like Toshara, and farm for this ability on easy locks with fewer glyphs. Unlocking the Slicing Kit Upgrade would be of help too.
More ways to make Nix Happy
I can’t confirm the following activities because in the late game things happen quite fast and I need more playthroughs to confirm them all with 100% certainty. Here is what should give you a point for unlocking the ability:
- Ask Nix to detonate a grenade on an enemy NPC that is holding one. The ability is called “Cheeky Explosion” and is unlocked by Teeka, the Hotfixer expert.
- Make a big jump with your Speeder.
Why you should unlock Treasure Hunter early on
The Treasure Hunter ability in Star Wars Outlaws is an invaluable helper during your explorations. Almost all areas you will visit have hidden stashes, treasure chests and all kinds of boxes and containers for you to loot
When you activate Nix Mode, all lootable containers will flash in light blue. This will give you a great insight, for example, if the adjacent room, full of Imperial troopers, is worth visiting and clearing up to loot something valuable there.
The ability will not tell you the contents of the containers, of course. But if it’s a big chest, there is a high chance the loot is going to be very valuable. It could be an outfit part, an important upgrade material or large amount of credits.
If you need some refresher on how to Pick locked chests, our guide will give you all the details about this mini game. We also have a great Slicing guide that explains both the simpler version of this mini game as well as how to use Advanced Slicing after you obtain the Slicing Kit from The Slicer expert.
In an upcoming ability unlock, you will need to find a way to make Nix jealous and we have a guide for that as well. Check it out when you are ready.
