Should Ays work for Crimson Dawn or the Hutts: Star Wars Outlaws Defector Quest Walkthrough

This guide will show you how to start and complete the Star Wars Outlaws side quest, Defector. Including what are the outcomes if you tell Ays to work for Crimson Dawn or for the Hutts.

How to get the Defector Side Quest

The Defector side quest becomes available after completing the Tatooine story quest, Jabba’s Favor. You’ll find the Crimson Dawn contact, EE’zok, in the Bestine Cantina on Tatooine.

EE’zok wants Kay to find an Imperial superweapons engineer who’s defecting to Crimson Dawn. You must find her and escort her to safety as this incident will gain the attention of the Empire and rival syndicates.

Finding Ays on Tatooine

Your first task is to find Ays’ hideout located in the Jundland Wastes. It’s south of Bestine and north of the South Jundland Wastes Fast Travel point.

I recommend you travel from the South Jundland Wastes Fast Travel Point, where you can sometimes find the sandcrawler. It’s a very short speeder trip from there.

Lockpick the door on the small building and inside you’ll find Syndicate Data you can sell and a computer you can slice. Slice the computer to learn Ays’ location.

You’ll learn from the computer that Ays is at Garrick Ranch. Travel there and pick up any valuables lying about. You may recognize this area if you were here earlier for the damaged holodisc for Jet Kordo’s Vaults on Tatooine.

Before entering the north building, slice the east building’s dataport with your advanced slicing kit. Once inside, you’ll find a large chest containing valuables to sell.

After looting the area of goodies, go towards the north building. You’ll hear some chatter on the other side of the door, lockpick it, and take out the bandit inside.

Talk to Ays and you’ll learn that the Empire is on its way. The bandit you took down was selling out Ays as a traitor, so things are about to get hectic.

Be sure to open the chest inside the building you found Ays in. It’ll contain an X-FP-C28 Ship Computer. It’s an incredibly useful upgrade material to upgrade the Trailblazer.

Escaping the Empire with Ays

The moment you finish talking to Ays, you’ll become wanted by the Empire. When you open the door to walk out, crouch and roll to the left behind some cover.

The sunlight is blinding and you won’t see the stormtroopers ahead of you (assuming its daytime). Take out the Imperials and mount your speeder then follow Ays to Bestine.

When you reach Bestine, the path to the Trailblazer in the landing bay will be blocked by a laser gate. Hop off your speeder and fight off the stormtroopers before getting inside the Trailblazer.

When you’re in Tatooine’s orbit, you can take out the TIE fighters or just book it and jump to Toshara. Once you make it to Toshara’s orbit, you’ll get an offer.

Should Ays work for Crimson Dawn or the Hutts

You’ll get a call from Bib Fortuna, he wants you to bring Ays under the Hutt’s employment. Ays isn’t sure what to do, so she’ll ask Kay for her thoughts.

Choosing the Crimson Dawn

If you honor your contract and choose to bring Ays to the Crimson Dawn, you’ll need to land at Mirogana City to meet up with Eleera.

You’ll gain a great amount of reputation with Crimson Dawn, gain 1,000 credits, but lose a great amount of reputation with the Hutt Cartel.

Choosing the Hutt Cartel

If you take Bib Fortuna’s offer, you’ll need to meet up with Toshara’s Hutt Cartel contact, Verrick. Land at Jaunta’s Hope to meet up with Verrick.

You’ll gain a great amount of reputation with the Hutts, 2,000 credits instead of 1,000, but you’ll lose a great amount of reputation with Crimson Dawn.

Which Syndicate Should You Choose

This particular choice carries a lot of weight. If you’re on the lower end of Good reputation with a syndicate, it can turn into Bad reputation after you choose against that syndicate.

The extra credits might not be worth it if the choice will put you into the Bad reputation with a syndicate as you’ll be attacked on sight when you’re in their territories.

I suggest you choose the faction you’re trying to appease for the Syndicate rewards, or choose the Hutts for the extra credits if you can afford the reputation loss with Crimson Dawn.
