CD PROJEKT RED is on a roll this week. The amazing Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will have a prequel in the form of a serialized Manga and the anime will be released on a Blu-ray!
Following two big announcements earlier this week, we now have a third one. First, Cyberpunk 2077 received a big new update 2.2. Yesterday we got a cinematic reveal trailer for The Witcher 4.
Today, in a press release, CD PROJEKT RED announced that the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners show will get a manga prequel, and the ten-episode anime will also be available for collectors to finally purchase and own it on a Blu-ray.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS
The Manga prequel, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, will be released in a monthly serialized format in Japanese, Polish, Spanish, Italian, German, French, and Traditional Chinese. The English edition will be published in paperback volumes by Dark Horse. Below are the publishers for each language and region:
- Japanese: KADOKAWA Corporation (Online Comic label ALIVE+)
- Polish: Studio JG
- Italian: Panini SpA
- Spanish: Panini España S.A.
- German: Panini Verlags Gmbh
- French: Panini France S.A.
- Traditional Chinese: KADOKAWA Taiwan Corporation
The first chapter will release in all languages on December 13th, with the exception of Traditional Chinese, which will follow on December 20th.
I am not a manga fan. In fact, I know very little about this style. I am a huge fan of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher. I did support CD PROJEKT RED’s project The Witcher: Ronin on Kickstarter and loved what they did with it.
The Manga prequel will tell the story of Rebecca and her brother Pilar. We didn’t see much of Pilar before he met his end by the cyberpsycho in Northside, Watson.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on Blu-ray
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will receive a Blu-ray edition in 2025. It will be available to the following territories: Japan, USA, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Thailand.
All ten episodes will be included in this physical edition. The announcement doesn’t mention any extra materials being included.
Edgerunners was one of the most important moments for CD PROJEKT RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 video game. It was around that time that the developers had finally managed to fix almost all of the issues the base game released with and were focusing on delivering new content.
Update 1.6 marked a turning point for the game in September 2022. Shortly after it, Netflix released the anime and the community went crazy.
The show is 100% situated in the actual Night City where you play as V, although it’s set before the events of the game. I even documented all locations from Edgerunners in Cyberpunk 2077, you should check it out!
The series inspired several big changes to the game. Some of the most notable ones were the redesigned and improved final boss fight against Adam Smasher in the game. We also have a lot of the weapons and cyberware the characters used in the show, now available in the game.
