With two small updates in February 2025, the developers from Massive continue to demonstrate that they have not given up on Star Wars Outlaws.
Earlier this month, Game Update 1.5.1 brought a couple of fixes. Its main purpose, though, seemed to be to add support for NVIDIA series 50 GPUs. The game was one of the first titles to officially support DLSS 4.
Today, on February 27th, we receive a new small patch that attempts to fix issues with Ray Reconstruction and improve the performance of the game on PlayStation 5.
With a size between 2 and 4 GB on the various platforms where the game is available, this is definitely a small patch. I mean, a few days ago, I downloaded a gigantic 60+GB patch for Avowed. In 2025 2-4 GB seems like a really small size.
Here are the details for Update 1.5.2
- PlayStation®5: 1.95GB (version 01.005.200)
- Xbox Series X|S: 3.91GB (version 1.0.5.2)
- PC (Ubisoft Connect): 2.54GB (version 1.0.5.2)
- Steam: 2.54GB (version 1.0.5.2)
You can check out the full patch notes for Update 1.5.2 below (source: ubisoft):
Graphics (PC)
- Fixed black outline around Kay in foggy areas when Ray Reconstruction is ON
- Fixed graphical anomalies and outlines in volumetric fog/clouds when Ray Reconstruction is ON
Performance (PS5)
- Fixed an issue when the game could crash when using Photo Mode on PS5
The developers stated that they are aware of a glitch that may cause the take off option with the Trailblazer to become unavailable. They are investigating and we are likely to see it resolved in another patch down the line.
Star Wars Outlaws did not sell well, and I always thought that one of the reasons was the game’s rather high hardware requirements. It had Ray Tracing built in. In reality, you needed at least a 30 RTX GPU or equivalent to play it.
Also, the game had a lot of bugs and issues at launch. We here at VULKK enjoy it a lot, despite its shortcomings.
Finally, let’s not forget that it was a different kind of Star Wars story – about a smuggler trying to find her spot in the underworld. No lightsabers, no Jedi vs Sith.
Kay is a normal human, who was forced to look for alternative approach to come out of every tough situation. She could not just pull out her lightsaber and start swinging.
In series of post-launch updates the developers improved the gameplay significantly. They removed the mandatory stealth segments and expanded the gunplay options for Kay while also revamping most of the items she can pick up from the ground and use temporarily. It was so frustrating to see how Kay is unable to climb a ladder while holding a gun. D’OH!
The second DLC is now not too far away. The Season Pass page has not yet been updated with new information and it is still pointing a release target window of “Spring 2025”.
I am hoping that A Pirate’s Fortune will compensate for the shortcomings of Wild Card. The only thing we know about it for now is that it will feature Hondo:
The Trailblazer’s reputation precedes Kay as she runs into veteran pirate Hondo Ohnaka, who is looking to settle old scores with a ruthless gang of pirates.
Given the fact that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is coming out on March 20th, it is safe to assume that the second DLC for Star Wars Outlaws, titled “A Pirate’s Fortune”, will be most likely coming sometime in late April or May.
Considering the fact that the first DLC, Wild Card, was underwhelming, I am keeping my hype to a moderate level for the second one. The Wild Card’s story was not great, but not bad either. It lacked depth and felt a bit rushed.
Besides a few new quests, Wild Card did not offer anything. No new open region(s), no new items, no new upgrades. Just a quest chain.
We did get a lot of fixes and improvements in the preceding updates, though. Patches 1.2 through 1.4 were huge and improved the game in a lot of aspects.
So, are you looking forward to A Pirate’s Fortune?
