How to get the classic white Assassin Outfit in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Assassin’s Creed Shadows offers several assassin outfits for Naoe. This guide will show you how to obtain the classic white (with red accents) Assassin armor and hood from the Old Kofun.

How Armor works in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Armor Sets in Assassin’s Creed Shadows consists of two gear pieces – an armor and a head piece. For Naoe, the armor pieces are light, for Yasuke – heavy. Naoe’s head piece is called Headgear and those are often various masks or hoods. Yasuke is wearing Helmets or Bands.

Each character has their own unique selection of gear and you cannot mix and match them between Naoe and Yasuke.

Each armor piece above common grade always comes with an engraving. The quality of items is defined by their level, which you can upgrade (costs resources) and rarity tier, which you cannot change.

The game makes an effort to match the gear you loot to your current level. The higher your level, the higher tier rarity items you will find. The top tier is Legendary.

You can use the built-in Transmog feature to alter the appearance of any gear piece and replace it or parts of it with something else you own. This allows you to keep using lower-level gear that you outgrow quickly but love its appearance.

We have a thorough guide on how gear works in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which you can read for more in-depth overview and explanation of everything else you need to know.

Apprentice Assassin Outfit Visual Overview

Not too deep into the game, you will get a chance to obtain the Apprentice Assassin Gear and Hood pieces that complete the classic white (with red and black accents) outfit of an assassin.

This armor set is made primarily of white cloth, in several layers on top of each other, each with a slightly different grey tone. The vest has a decorative pattern that you can also see on the lower piece contrasting and at the same time completing the lower parts of the set below the belt.

Red cloth straps serve as accents. The interior of the hood has a beautiful velvety-red color with the same decorative pattern. You can also see a metal A-shaped (the Assassin’s Creed logo) piece binding the red belt in the front.

Elegant Samurai Set Stats and Effects

The set consists of two pieces, an armor and a hood. Both are Epic tier. The engravings are both useful for the assassin playstyle. The hood’s engraving increases the removed health segments on assassinations and the armor’s engraving helps Naoe heal up on every successful hit.

How to get the Apprentice Assassin Outfit

The entire outfit is obtainable inside the Old Kofun in Izumi Settsu. You may have visited this place earlier in the game. If that is the case, you have probably noticed that there is a room and a blocked passageway that warns you this area is not accessible yet.

Location and Requirements to access

The Old Kofun is an underground maze located east of Sakai and west of the Makinoodera Temple in the subregion of Izumi Coast, in southwestern Izumi Settsu.

The room where Naoe finds the Apprentice Assassin gear and hood is locked off until you reach the quest “Secrets of the Blade“. This one is part of “The Assassins” quest chain from Naoe’s personal story.

How to start the story arc

The story arc begins with the quest “Wolves and Foxes“. After you complete this quest, the next one you receive is “Secrets of the Blade“.

Naoe's Journey - The Assassins - Secrets of the Blade

If you have not previously explored it, we have a full walkthrough to the Old Kofun, showing you to all treasure chests, including the big prize at the end: Amaterasu’s Blessing Legendary Trinket.

How to access the Old Kofun

The entrance to the tomb and its treasures is on the southeastern side, through a narrow crack in the stone wall.

Following the quest’s objective, enter the Kofun and ahead down through the tunnel to the first room with the sarcophagus. Naoe will narrate while you are walking in as if she has not been there before, even if you explored it earlier. Weird, I know.

If you look to the left, this is where the path to the previously already accessible maze is. Ahead, past the two red exploding barrels, is where you want to go now.

Where to find the Outfit

Slide down. On the right side, you will see a narrow crack in the wall. This was previously barred. Now it’s open. Slide through it.

Follow the tunnel while Naoe observes and reacts to the skeletons preserved where they fell, on the ground. You will reach a wall with the Assassin’s Creed logo etched in the stone. In the middle, there is a hole, where you can insert your blade to unlock this secret door.

Ancient secret door

Go through the Tomb of the Ancients and examine the objects around. Then head to the adjacent room to the northwest. On the platform opposite the entrance, you will see the Apprentice Assassin outfit on a stand. Pick it up. It’s yours.

Apprentice Assassin Outfit location

When you exit the Kofun, Yasuke will be waiting outside. After the cinematic, you will complete the quest “Secrets of the Blade” and unlock four new ones.

They task Naoe with discovering four Assassin Outposts. We, as you might have guessed, have full walkthroughs for them:

  • Path of the Blade and Iga Assassin Outpost
  • Path of the Blade and Omi Assassin Outpost
  • Path of Secrets and Yamato Assassin Outpost
  • Path of the Chosen and Kii Assassin Outpost

You don’t have to do them in any specific order. The Hidden Trails do not include combat, except for the Kii one. You are technically able to reach some or all of the Assassin Outposts without completing the Paths, but they are the intended way. Plus, you get a Knowledge Point for going through them.
