Assassin’s Creed Shadows Update 1.0.1 fixes Photo Mode Crashes

The first update to Assassin’s Creed Shadows was released five days after launch and it is a hotfix that resolves an issue with Photo Mode causing crashes.

For me and my team, the experience we’ve had so far with Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been nearly flawless. The Day 0 update seems to have resolved the few minor bugs I experienced during the early access period.

The game has only crashed for me a single time so far in my 133 hours of gameplay at time of this publication. I think my colleague Siow had a couple of crashes while Adrian had a weird hardware-related issue that caused his game to self-shut down almost immediately after launch due to some monitor refresh rate sync issue.

Overall, I think Ubisoft rightfully took their sweet time with the multiple delays. They did their job and apart from some weird sound bugs where a sound was missing or an annoying noise was getting stuck and only restarting the game removed it, we have been impressed with the bug-free experience we’ve had on PC.

Update 1.0.1 varies in size from 1.4 GB on PlayStation 5 to 7 on PC and 9 on MAC. It is a relatively small update, though, with only one hot issue being fixed.

I am using Photo Mode a lot, but I’ve never had it cause me any issues, let alone crashes. Yet, this is exactly the main focus on the 1.0.1 hotfix. Some players have experienced game crashes with some Photo Mode issue.

My biggest issue with Photo Mode is that it restricts the capturing to 16:9 format and for players like me, who prefer UltraWide, this was rather annoying.

Among the many customizable controls on PC, you have the ability to hide the entire HUD with the click of a button (the ~ symbol next to the number 1 on your keyboard). This made the 16:9 limitation of Photo Mode a lot less frustrating.

Here are the full patch notes, which as usual include a bullet point stating that “some global issues” have been fixed to improve and stabilize the game. This is more of a generic and constant presence of a bullet point in every game’s every patch.

Patch Sizes:

  • Xbox Series X|S: 8.88 GB
  • PlayStation®5: 1.41 GB
  • PC: 7.03 GB
  • MAC: 9 GB

Bug fixes & Improvements

  • Stabilization – Fixed some global issues
  • [PS5] Fixed a Photo mode issue that could cause a crash when fetching photos to display on the world map.
  • [PC] Fixed a Photo mode issue that could cause a crash when taking a photo.

I have been enjoying Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and I think I have at least another 100 or more hours before I truly complete everything, despite the fact that I rolled the credits around my 40th hour, like many other players have.

The game doesn’t end when you roll the credits. There are countless other activities that can keep you occupied. If you are interested in mapping the regions that is.
