Achievement Walkthroughs
This segment will give you detailed instructions how to unlock all of the trickier achievements to 100% the game.
All Mastery Path Achievements
There are three achievements requiring you to fully unlock a specific Mastery path – two for Naoe and one for Yasuke.
To do this, you have to unlock Mastery Rank 6 by earning Knowledge Points. Then you invest Mastery Points into every ability, passive and upgrade on that Mastery path.
You can reset your Mastery Points at any time free of charge. There is almost never need for you to go our of your way to farm Mastery Points.
Some slots require you to progress further into the story. Be sure to complete all quests that are part of Naoe’s or Yasuke’s personal story board as well as The Shinbakufu storyline.
Here is the list of all achievements related to Mastery paths
- Art of Ninjutsu – Naoe’s Shinobi Mastery Path
- Art of Kenjutsu – Yasuke’s Samurai Mastery Path
- In Case of Trouble – Naoe’s Tools Mastery Path
Make it Personal
To earn this achievement, you have to engrave a weapon. To do that, you have to first build the Forge in the Hideout and upgrade it to Tier 2. To be clear, you don’t need to engrave the first weapon you get in the game. Any weapon would do.
Better than a Bucket
There are five slots for gear in your inventory. You have to find at least one legendary item for each slot and equip it. This is not too hard and is achievable already in the first region, Izumi Settsu. We have complete catalogs to all Legendary Weapons, all legendary Armors and all legendary Trinkets and Amulets.
Below is an example list with Legendary items for Naoe you can pick up early in the game from the first two open regions -Izumi Settsu and Yamashiro.
Icon | Item | Location |
---|---|---|
Yurei-Walker Hood | Yamazaki Castle, Yamashiro | |
Tools Master Gear | Katano Castle, Izumi Settsu | |
Bloodshade | Boat west of Osaka, Izumi Settsu | |
Deathbloom | Sarumaru Shrine, Yamashiro | |
Amaterasu’s Blessing | Old Kofun, Izumi Settsu |
Limitless
You can use our Legendary Gear catalogs to find every single Legendary gear item in the game. Here is a list for each type, if you are just after this achievement:
Sometimes
To be able to unlock this achievement, you will need to first unlock the Igan Rll passive perk from Naoe’s Shinobi Mastery. I highly recommend you unlock Ninja Fall as well. This will allow you to roll right before you land from any height and significantly lower the number of injuries and desynchronizations you will experience with Naoe.
You can only get this achievement with Naoe. Yasuke is not very good at falls and even worse at landings. In fact, you will get the achievement “Leap of Fail” the first time you try to make a leap of fate with Yasuke. His comments after each failed landing continue to be fun even after hundreds of jumps.
Reeding is Fundamental
To unlock the Reeding is Fundamental achievement, you need to get the passive perk “Shallow Water Breathing” from Naoe’s Shinobi Mastery Path.
Find some enemies near a shallow water pool, attack them, run away and prone into the water. This only works in shallow basins, not in rivers or the ocean.
Just Your Shadow
To distract the same enemy 3 times with shinobi bells, you first need to acquire this tool. The Shinobi Bell is available in Naoe’s Tools Mastery Path, at Rank 2.
This achievement was a bit buggy at the time of this publication. It is expected to be fixed with a patch in the beginning of April. The bug was that due to proximity issues, the bell distractions were not always acknowledged as such. The NPCs were ALWAYS going for the bell, so there were no gameplay-related issues, but the actions didn’t always register for the achievement.
Hook, Line and Swinger
You have to grapple from one hook to another without falling on the ground. This is easily achievable on the Hidden Trails as well as in some of the Kofun you will explore.
There is a double-grapple-hook segment in the Old Kofun, which is likely the first Kofun you will stumble on and explore.
Acrobatics
This one is very easy to do and the Old Kofun is a perfect location to achieve it. Same double-hook spot that I described in the previous segment. While swinging, you can just jump in the middle and Naoe will perform a leap of faith automatically.
Master Shinobi
To perform an assassination through a shoji door. Every paper interior or exterior doors of every house and building works for that.
To be able to perform this assassination, you need to first unlock the passive perk “for it from the “Shoji Door Assassination” from the Assassin Mastery Path. Only Naoe can learn this trick.
Giant Slayer
Guardians are among the most powerful and tankiest enemies you will encounter in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. They spawn when you put a region on alert and become Wanted. You will encounter many of them in Castles.
To assassinate a powerful guardian in one go, you can activate the “Guaranteed Assassination” setting from the Difficulty Tuning tab in the menu. You can only tweak this out of combat.
A better and more natural way to achieve a single-hit assassination is to max out the Assassin Mastery and use Engravings to increase Health Chunks removed on Assassination.
Here are two builds for Naoe to help you with that:
- Mid Game: Assassination Damage I and II from the Assassin Tree, Apprentice Assassin Hood with Legendary Engraving: +2 Health Segments removed on Assassinations in shadows (gained from Yurei-Walker Hood)
- Late Game: Assassination Damage I, II, and III. Master Assassin Gear. Assassination Damage III can be substituted with the previous ingraving for +2 in Shadows.
Yasuke’s situation is similar in terms of equipment. He too can perform Assassinations, but his version is Brutal and he can only do it once before everyone around is alerted.
Yasuke’s Brutal Assassination passive from the Samurai Mastery Path allows him to remove 3 Health Chunks. You can upgrade it to remove 4 additional Health Chunks, which is more than enough for the task.
Unstoppable
To unlock the Samurai Stand ability from the Samurai Mastery Path you need to complete the “Nobotsuna’s Students” quest. Th ability is on the third row, so you will also need enough Knowledge Points to unlock Mastery Tier 3.
This is Japan, Actually
One of the funniest achievements in the game requires you to use the Tier 1 ability War Kick from the Samurai Mastery Path. You have to kick an opponent from a cliff.
You can do this at any Viewpoint with hostile NPCs at the bottom of the tree, like the Sewara Inari Shrine Viewpoint over in northeastern Kii.
Overdesign III
For this one, you have to kill with a Finisher an enemy that is both Poisoned and Dazed at the same time. You can achieve it easily with Naoe. Use any weapons that has Poison Buildup and Daze Buildup.
You don’t need a special build for that. Doing it on a large enemy would be easier as you will have more time to land more hits to build up the afflictions.
You need to perform the Finisher while both afflictions are ticking, not while any of them is building up. The Daze meter is an orange circle and the Poison is purple.
Final Hearing
Similar top Overdesign III, for this achievement you will need a weapon with Bleed Buildup bonus. You have to build up the Bleed and wait for its ticks to take out the opponent. Then immediately hold the button to sheath your weapon. Yasuke has many Long Katanas that add Bleed and can do the job.
Adventurer
To shoot an enemy in the knee with an arrow, you will need Yasuke and a bow. Any bow and any arrow would do.
Mortal Reminder
You are first introduced to the Objective Board shortly after the linear tutorial in the beginning of the game. The Objectives Board contains many circles with NPCs, some friendly quest givers, others – targets for assassination. Complete any of them to earn this achievement.
Test Your Might
To get the achievement, you have to unlock and complete The Tournament quest. TO start the quest, talk to Gyoji, who will appear right outside the Hideout.
For him to appear and give you the quest for The Tournament, you need to progress enough into The Shinbakufu order.
We need to test it more, but so far it seems that The Tournament quest becomes available after you assassinate seven of the order’s members.
Chase the Morning
To add a sumi-e to the Hideout, you will need the Study building or any of the additional Small, Medium and Large Rooms you can purchase from merchants. You also need at least one sumi-e drawing.
Go to the Hideout, activate the “Improve the Hideout mode” and select the Study building (or any of the other buildings that allow Wall Station customizations) to customize it. In the Customize menu, navigate to Stations and select Wall Station. Then choose a sumi-e from the list of available drawings.
Everybody Benefits
To adopt a pet, find and interact with one. There are plenty of dogs and cats (and other creatures!) available in the world.
Happy Place
The highest point on the map is Mount Hakkyo. This is a Viewpoint located in the southeastern corner of Yamato, on the border with Kii. The Viewpoint is east of Nyoirinji Temple, in the Yoshino sub-region.
Pathfinder
There are nine provinces, or as we call them, regions, in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. They all open up for free exploration after you complete the linear heavy story-driven tutorial.
Each region has a minimum recommended level. If you engage in combat with an enemy who is a higher level than you by 3 or more, the game will soft cap your attacks.
You will be barely scratching the opponent, while they will one-shot you. This is a level-related mechanic, not a matter of gear.
Here is the list of all nine regions with their recommended levels:
Region | Level |
---|---|
Izumi Settsu | 1 |
Yamashiro | 10 |
Omi | 18 |
Harima | 23 |
Iga | 23 |
Wakasa | 29 |
Yamato | 29 |
Tamba | 35 |
Kii | 35 |
Would You Kindly?
Completing Contracts is one of the best methods of obtaining crafting and Hideout resources. After you unlock a Kakurega in a region, you can pick up to three contracts per season when you visit the safehouse.
These contracts are local, within the region where the kakurega is located. You can pick up contracts from different kakuregas all around the map. You need to complete at least one contract in each one of the nine regions to unlock the Would You Kindly? achievement.
Made You Look!
Another funny achievement is Made You Look! To earn it, you have to go inside the small cave behind the waterfall in the Hideout. The waterfall is in the northeast corner of the area, where the Kuji-kiri spot is.
While there is no treasure in this cave, in a few other occasions there would be treasures behind waterfalls, so keep checking.
