Over 75 secrets, little known facts, references and other tiny details you may have missed while watching the second season of Andor.
Table of Contents:
Episodes 1-3
From small toys to Old Republic references. Here are the hidden details and references I found in Episodes 1-3 of Andor Season 2!
Sienar Fleet Systems
While the planet Sienar is new, Sienar Fleet Systems has been around for quite some time. They are the corporation that has built most of the Empire’s TIE Fighters after the fall of the Galactic Republic. This massive corporation is led by the Sienar family. It’s very likely that the planet is named after the family.
TIE Avenger
The prototype stolen by Cassian is a TIE Avenger. Laser cannons, rotary blaster cannons, a missile launcher, and a heavy laser cannon, combined with the two rear-mounted engines and hyperdrive capabilities, make the TIE Avenger one of the deadliest starfighters in the Empire’s fleet.
This ship is incredibly expensive, and since Cassian stole a prototype it’s not that hard to figure out why the Avenger was never built in mass.
TIE Advanced V-1
The two ships that chase the stolen TIE Avenger are TIE Advanced V-1s, another experimental ship. While not as powerful, the Advanced V-1s are still far superior to regular TIE Fighters.
They have some appearances in Star Wars Rebels. Specifically on Lothal during the Empire Day festivities, and in Malachor V, since this is the ship Inquisitors fly.
Password: Kafrene
Niya tells Andor that the day’s password is Kafrene. The Ring of Kafrene is a mining colony that also served as a mining spot. This is the place where we first meet Cassian Andor in Rogue One, and it’s also where Season 2 is going to end.
Range Trooper
The soldier who fires a rocket launcher at Cassian when he is stealing the TIE Avenger is a Range Trooper. These soldiers are equipped for extremely cold weather. They appeared for the first time in Solo: A Star Wars Story during the heist on Vandor.
Mina-Rau
As we all saw, Mina-Rau is an agricultural planet with nothing that’s particularly interesting about.
These fields were created by planting Rye specifically for this series. Sadly, the fields were harvested due to the SAG-AFTRA strike of 2023, and they had to rebuild them using polystyrene sheets.
Gozanti-class Cruiser
The intimidating ship that arrives at Mina-Rau is a Gozanti-class Cruiser. This ship is often used to transport troops and vehicles such as AT-ATs. We saw its interior when Din Djarin helped Bo-Katan steal one in Season 2 of The Mandalorian.
Maltheen Divide
The Maltheen Divide, where Krennic hosts his top-secret meeting, is a fortress located at the top of a mountain zone. This is a clever idea and one shared among other top Imperials.
In Season 2 of The Bad Batch, Moff Tarkin and other Imperials discuss Project Necromancer at the Raven’s Peak in Eriadu.
The Wannsee Conference
Speaking of secret meetings. That entire scene is inspired by the Wannsee Conference of 1942, the infamous meeting where the deportation and execution of all Jews was planned.
The Energy Initiative
Krennic talks about the Energy Initiative. This was first mentioned in Catalyst: A Rogue One (Amazon affiliate link) novel by James Luceno (great book, by the way). Krennic made Galen Erso believe he was working to create a new way of sustainable energy, though it was only intended to power the Death Star.
Erskin Semaj
It’s easy to overlook Mon Mothma’s assistant with all the things that are happening, but Erskin Semaj is among her most loyal followers.
He never left her side when she had to be rescued by the Spectres in the episode “Secret Cargo” of Star Wars Rebels.
Gone but not forgotten
You can see a picture of Maarva when Bix is trying to communicate with Cassian. It doesn’t add anything to the plot, but it’s really nice to see how they keep things like this to remember their loved ones.
Niamos remix
If the music from the wedding sounds familiar to you, that’s because it’s a remix of a piece that was heard in the first season. You can hear in Episode 7 “Announcement” when Niamos is introduced. This location shares its name with the track.
S1 ship
Cassian arrives at the point where he is supposed to meet Porko, but all he sees is a ship in a terrible state. This is the same model that Wil, Brasso, and Bix used to escape in the Season 1 Finale.
Maya Pei Brigade
The Maya Pei was first mentioned in Season 1 when Luthen Rael and Saw Gerrera discussed the other rebel cells. Dedra Meero believed to have intel about her after torturing Bix.
Yavin IV
After Cassian finally escapes his captors, we see a Massassi Temple, which confirms that it is Yavin IV. A planet that will become a stronghold for the Rebel Alliance and the target of the Death Star in A New Hope.
Yavinian Doodar
The creature that attacks the Maya Pei Brigade is a Yavinian Doodar. This reptilian creature was named after its designer, Alexander Dudar.
Mothma’s estate in real life
To shoot the scenes on Chandrila, the cast traveled to a mountain range near Santa Maria de Montserrat, Spain. This is the first time we see Chandrila in live-action since its introduction in the Aftermath novel by Chuck Wendig.
E chu ta!
After the Maya Pei soldiers turn on each other, one of them shouts, “E chu ta!”. This is a Huttese slur. The oldest example of this is the small exchange between C-3PO and E-3PO on Bespin. The brief interaction is as follows:
-“Nice to see a familiar face.”
-“E chu ta!“
-“How rude!“
The Rakatan Empire
When Davo Sculdun mentions what is a Chandi Merle, he says that the iconic piece was stolen by the Rakatan Invaders 25,000 years before. The Rakatan Empire was a powerful species that conquered many systems thanks to its technology and power drawn from the dark side of the Force.
Rakatans appear in games like Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: The Old Republic.
That face looks familiar
Gerdis from the Maya Pei Brigade is played by Sam Gilroy, son of Andor’s main writer and showrunner, Tony Gilroy.
Merchandise is hard to move
When Kleya returns to the shop, many of the items that appeared in the last season are still there. Padme’s headdress, the Kalikori, a Kel Dor mask, and Starkiller’s armor. I guess it’s hard to sell that stuff even among the richest and most eccentric people.
Imperial Toy
There is a small kid playing with an AT-ST puppet next to Bix when she is having dinner on Mina-Rau with the other workers.
Asian-inspired costumes
The costumes worn during the initial part of the wedding appear to be heavily inspired by ceremonial attire used in Japan and Korea.
Episodes 4-6
From how a culture was created to Legends references. Here are the hidden details and references I found in Episodes 4-6 of Andor Season 2!
Creating Ghorman
The Ghorman culture is inspired by France and Italy. Ghor, the language spoken by all Ghormans, is based on French phonetics. Every Ghorman but Carro Rylanz is played by a French actor.
Richard Sammel (Carro Rylanz) is a German actor who speaks French fluently. That’s why when he speaks it sounds like a mix of French and German.
The signature green color of Ghorman was inspired by 1970s Italy and the “avocado green” bath suites of the era.
The Ghorman Front costumes are inspired by World War II French and Italian resistance fighters.
Is that the prophet of Truth?
One of the Senators being sworn into the Senate looks like a San’Shyuum, an alien species from the Halo franchise. I don’t know if it’s a reference or just a coincidence, but I think that’s very amusing considering that the E.T. species appears in the prequel trilogy.
That’s what I call podracing
When Syril returns to his office, we can see two guards watching a podracing race. It’s hard to distinguish, but I’m 80% sure that what we see is the Grabvine Gateway track from the Episode 1 Racer game.
Space Bodega
The store where Bix and Cassian buy some food is called “Samo’s Bodega – Deli – Grocery”. This place has food like Peezos, which were mentioned a few times in Season 1.
Ukio
The vendor also mentions melons from Ukio, a planet introduced in The Last Command Legends novel, the third and last book of the Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn.
Operation’s room
The ISB operations room where Dedra and Partagaz monitor Syril’s mission is the OKX Thought Leadership Center, property of the McLaren Group’s Technology Center in Woking, England.
Climbing the ranks
Heert used to be Dedra Meero’s aide in the previous season, but now he has been promoted and apparently replaced Supervisor Blevin.
The Tarkin Massacre
The Tarkin massacre is what we previously knew as the Ghorman massacre, but that is now a past event and not the reason behind Mon Mothma’s call-out of Palpatine in the Senate. After this season ends, we will have two Ghorman massacres.
What a place to have a party
Davo Sculdun’s residence on Coruscant is Spain’s Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, located in Valencia.
Tie-in with TFA
Saw Gerrera and the Partisans are located on D’Qar. This planet is the base of operations of the Resistance in The Force Awakens. The location used to be a Royal Air Force base.
A dangerous material
Rhydonium is a valuable but unstable material that can cause irreparable skin and mental damage to anyone who comes into contact with it.
This is the material that Din Djarin and Mayfield transport when pretending to be Imperials in Season 2 of The Mandalorian. It has also appeared in Clone Wars, Rebels, and The High Republic.
Saw’s sister
Saw calling Rhydonium his sister is a bit crazy, but he actually had a real sister called Steela who died in Onderon during the Clone Wars.
That looks tasty
The cooked Massif that Saw’s rebels are eating is an actual edible prop. Massiffs are often seen on Tatooine being used by Tusken Raiders as guard dogs, as shown in Attack of the Clones and The Mandalorian.
Sam Witwer
Before Cassian leaves for Ghorman, he receives important information about his new persona, Skye Varian. The voice you hear behind is Sam Witwer, commonly known for his role as Starkiller in The Force Unleashed and Maul in Clone Wars, Rebels, and the upcoming series Maul: Shadow Lord.
A taste of his own medicine
After sneaking into Dr. Gorst’s interrogation chamber and capturing him, Bix whispers the words “It’ll only feel like forever”. These are the same words he said to her when she was tortured in Ferrix.
Episodes 7-9
From a retconned origins story, to the rival agency of the ISB, to Star Wars Rebels. Here are the hidden details and references I found in Episodes 7-9 of Andor Season 2!
Rebel transport
The ship that appears in the first scene of Episode 7 is a JT-731 Broadhorn Transport. The first time we saw this ship was in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Roken and all the other refugees escaped Jabiim in this transport.
Rebellions are built on hope
The hotel clerk tells Cassian the iconic line “Rebellions are built on hope”. In Rogue One, Cassian would tell this to Jyn Erso, and later she would repeat it to the rest of the Rebel Alliance when debating if they would fight on Scariff.
Network droids
The droids who are broadcasting the Ghorman protest are also used in the Senate to broadcast the sessions. You can see them in both Andor and the prequel trilogy.
Force-healing
Force-healing is a concept that is relatively new. This ability allows the user to accelerate the healing process of a wound or even heal injuries that are fatal.
Obviously, the effectiveness of this technique is equivalent to how strong in the Force its user is. We have seen it in The Mandalorian, The Acolyte, The Rise of Skywalker, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and some High Republic books.
Eadu’s lab
When speaking to Dedra, Major Partagaz says that Krennic had the lab on Eadu work day and night. As you might remember from Rogue One, this is where Galen Erso and his engineering team are located.
Gaining the Emperor’s favor
Partagaz also mentions that the success on Ghorman will gain them a good position with the Emperor, but why would they need this? The answer is because they’re constantly competing with Imperial Intelligence, a sister Agency.
Even if on paper they have the same goal, let’s not forget that everyone in the Empire is always trying to climb the power ladder, and undermining competitors within the Empire is a part of this. Director Krennic is one of the highest-ranking officials in Imperial Intelligence.
General Davits Draven
The man who was bossing Andor around is General Davits Draven, one of the main military strategists of the Rebel Alliance. He appeared for the first time in Rogue One.
General Dodonna
When Vel is talking to Bix about Cassian, she says that her orders to talk to her were issued by Draven and Dodonna.
General Jan Dodonna is a character from the original trilogy. You can see him in the control room coordinating the attack against the first Death Star.
Many extras
For the Ghorman massacre, they used 350 extras. All of them were fully dressed by the costume department.
The old’ reliable
Cassian’s weapon of choice to assassinate Dedra is the modular A280-EFE blaster. He also uses this blaster when heading to assassinate Galen Erso on Eadu. You can use this weapon in the current Fortnite Star Wars mini-season.
K-2SO origin
Episode 8 retcons the origin of how Cassian and K-2SO originally met. This was shown in a one-issue comic special (Amazon affiliate link) released by Marvel back in 2017.
The ultimate killing droid
This is the second time we’ve seen how the Empire deploys the KX droids to kill people. The first time was during the Great Purge of Mandalore.
Senate location
The majority of episode 9 was filmed in the “Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias” in Valencia, Spain.
See you in one year
Bail Organa makes the decision to stay behind and stall as much as he can until Yavin is ready. He promises to meet Mothma one year after, which actually happens as we get to see him at the Yavin base in Rogue One.
Leaving the Empire
Right before exiting the Senate building, Mon Mothma drops her iconic blue robe. This is the last time we see her wear the iconic blue of Chandrila, a metaphor of the former Senator leaving all her former life behind. Until the Empire is defeated, we will only see her wearing white clothes.
Secret Cargo
After Mothma is rescued, Erskin tells Cassian that a Yavin escort will take Mothma to Yavin because they want her to make a new speech.
The reason why we don’t see or hear that in Andor is that it already happened in Star Wars Rebels. Gold Squadron has some problems, and the Ghost crew saves the day.
After Mothma’s speech, the rebel cells that were spread out finally came together. Officially creating the Rebel Alliance. The episode is the 18th of the third season.
Will we get to see and hear Mon’s full speech?
In the Andor Declassified episode, Disney revealed that they recorded the full speech of Mon Mothma and during the editing process, they picked what parts to actually show from it.
Genevieve O’Reilly tells us that they asked her if she wants to have the entire speech written for her and she confirmed it immediately. This was a very emotional and personal for her as she has been playing and developing the character for a long time now for us on screen.
So, maybe we will get a chance to see a behind-the-scenes or “deleted scene” material including the full speech one day. Hopefully.
Episodes 10-12 (Series Finale)
From the High Republic to Palpatine’s homeworld. Here are the hidden details and references I found in Episodes 10-12 of Andor Season 2!
Tooka Cat
After Luthen kills Lonni, we can see a funny-looking creature get close to the Supervisor’s body. This is a Tooka Cat, a feline used to eat pests. The Loth-cat, which we’ve seen in Rebels and Ahsoka, is a subspecies of this animal.
The Tooka that appears in this scene is named Pix, as a homage to the recently deceased dog of one of the visual effects artists.
Nautolan Bleeder
As Luthan mentions, the weapon he uses to prevent Dedra from taking him alive is a Nautolan bleeder. If you pay attention, you can see the head of a Nautolan at the top of the hilt.
Nautolans are an amphibious species from the planet Glee Anselm. The most well-known Nautolan in Star Wars is Jedi Master Kit Fisto.
Bottom: Kit Fisto in Episode 2
Imperial Starpath unit
Dedra presents Luthen with the same piece of technology that Cassian stole and almost sold to him before they got raided by the Morlana corps led by Syril Karn. All of this happened in the first arc of the first season.
Lina Soh Hospital
The hospital where Luthen is taken is named after Lina Soh, a Chancellor who served during the High Republic era.
Lockpicking tech
Kleya uses a strange piece to open some lockers at the hospital. This reminds me a lot of the lockpicking mini-game that we have in Star Wars Outlaws.
Bottom: A lockpick from the video game
Devaronian jewelry
Luthen sells a Devaronian victory necklace. Devaronians are devil-like humanoid species that stand out thanks to their red skin and their two horns. This species appears in A New Hope and Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Grandma alien
The funny grandma alien that Kleya uses as a cover in the hospital is from a species that first appeared in Season 1, when we see Cassian walking the beaches of Niamos.
Changing roles
In Season 1, Syril Karn was interrogated after he was caught trying to dig for information related to Cassian Andor. When Dedra Meero is arrested, she’s placed in the same interrogation room.
More Valencia
The scene where we see little Kleya with Luthen was filmed at the Xàtiva Castle, a medieval stronghold located south of Valencia, Spain.
Back to Naboo
The bombing of the bridge takes place on Naboo. While the reason why Luthen chose that planet is unclear, it might be related to the planet being the homeworld of Emperor Palpatine.
Swapping identity
In Luthen’s flashback, we hear that another soldier calls him Sergeant Lear. Once he left that life behind, he took his name and spelled it backwards to create a new identity. Lear <> Rael.
Mudtroopers
Also, during the flashback sequence, we can see the uniforms of Mudtroopers. These troops were last seen in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
New board game
The game that Cassian, Melshi, and K-2SO play in Cassian’s home is called Rianza. It was created by the art/graphics department. Heavily inspired by ancient Mahjong sets and dominoes.
Serve me more of that
Cassian and Melshi are drinking something called Revnog. This is the same thing that the two Preox Morlana officers ordered at the brothel in the first sequence of the first episode.
Pao
The creature known as “Paodok’Draba’Takat Sap’De’Rekti Nik’Linke’Ti’ Ki’Vef’Nik’NeSevef’Li’Kek” or “Pao” that we see training with Melshi is among the troopers that join Cassian and Jyn Erso on the Scarif incursion.
Antoc Merrick
During Cassian’s brief, the council mentions that Merrick is coming back the next day. Antock Merrick is a general and the leader of Blue Squadron. He fights and dies in the battle of Scarif.
Narkina 5
At the end of the 12th episode, Dedra Meero appears as a prisoner in Narkina 5. The same prison where Cassian was held during the first season.
Ready for Rogue One
In this last arc, Cassian’s entire looks is the same that he has in Rogue One. Haircut, facial hair, and all his entire costume which was recreated from scratch by Michael Wilkinson’s costume department.
What a way to end
The last shot of the series shows Bix and her baby on the fields of Mina Rau. It is very similar to Cassian’s last moments. I guess we could consider them the two possible outcomes for anyone who’s been involved in this fight.
Neither is completely happy, sad, or tragic. Both have all three elements, and that’s what makes them so powerful.
Bottom: Casian and Jyn on the beach in Rogue One
Ten years of Diego Luna as Cassian Andor
On May 13, 2015, Diego Luna was officially announced as Cassian Andor for the Rogue One film. Exactly ten years later, the second and final season of Andor has come to an end, and with it, his participation in Star Wars. One of the best Star Wars TV Series ever made.
