Bandai Namco and Rebel Wolves revealed a new gameplay trailer of Blood of the Dawnwalker, a brand new open-world dark fantasy action-RPG.
The Summer Game Fest has revealed some interesting announcements, but the one that stood out the most for us at VULKK is definitely the gameplay reveal of The Blood of Dawnwalker.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is being developed by Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by developers who worked on The Witcher 3.
The goal of this studio is to take the genre of RPGs to a new higher level by focusing on a concept they call “narrative sandbox”. They want to let the player decide how the story unfolds. Ambitious, for sure.
In this game, we will be playing in an alternative version of 14th-century Europe. After the plague decimated the old continent’s population, humanity was at its weakest point. This is the moment when vampires decided to take control.
The trailer reveals that in one of their many attacks, they turned Coen into a Dawnwalker. Now, as someone who walks both worlds, Coen is using his new powers to fight back against the creatures who terrorize everyone.
The video does a very good job of letting us know the miserable conditions people live in. Empoverished, famine and disease everywhere, and without any real opportunity to do something with their lives other than being harvested as long as their new overlords remain in power.
Dark forests, old castles, and ominous caves appear most of the time in the trailer. Considering the time and place when and where it happens, it’s probably safe to assume that we will spend the majority of the game in these places.
In this pre-beta gameplay footage, we first see Coen skillfully taking down enemies with a sword. While being good with a blade is useful, Coen’s true powers come out at night.
With that said, the trailer doesn’t actually show much of said powers. The only example of these “vampiric powers” is when Coen displaces himself as a cloud of darkness.
One thing that really caught my attention was the fact that we saw both the “pretty” kind of vampire and others that are inspired by Nosferatu.
The trailer also includes multiple types of enemies that are still a mystery. Some wear heavy armor, others look like creatures that come straight out of hell, and even one appears to be using blood magic.
Though we will have to wait until June 21, 2025, when they will reveal more information about the game.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is coming out in 2026, with a specific date yet to be revealed. You can watch the full trailer below.
