What to do after completing the main story in Cyberpunk 2077

Adrian by Adrian|

Cyberpunk 2077’s main story is quite short compared to the overall length of the game. If you complete it and are hungry for more, there are plenty of things you don’t want to miss out on. In this guide, we will tell you about them.

Finish your car collection

Like any important metropolis, Night City is full of people who have to use their vehicles to get to their destination.

Having a proper ride for each occasion is a good bonus for a merc who is trying to make his/her name known in every corner of the city.

There are dozens of vehicles you can acquire through different means. Some can be bought directly through the AUTOFIXER terminal, others are hidden in specific locations, a few more are granted as rewards for successfully completing Side Jobs and Gigs, and a couple are obtained in the process of a quest.

There are two main benefits of having a large collection of cars. The first and most important is that some jobs are easier to do with a specific type of vehicle.

The best example of this is probably the multiple races you can compete in. Trying to win them with a slow and old piece of junk would make things unnecessarily interesting.

The second one is just having your ride match your mood. After all, Cyberpunk 2077 is all about immersion, and what better way to be immersed than driving a vehicle that fits your character’s personality and appearance.

There are dozens of options available. A good number of them are in the AUTOFIXER terminal, but some of the best ones can’t be bought. You can check our catalog for all the available vehicles and how to get them.

Become a Psycho Killer

Cyber-psychosis is (kind of) a common occurrence in Night City. This condition makes everyone who suffers from it a threat to everyone.

These people often have military-grade Cyberware from Arasaka or Militech, which makes them tougher opponents than your standard enemies, especially when you are still early in the game.

Waiting until you have decent cyberware and better weapons will make things a lot easier. To unlock this Side Job, you have to complete The Ripperdoc, and have the initial conversation with Jackie during The Ride. After that, Regina Jones will call you.

Neutralizing these 17 threats without killing most of them will grant you the Chrome Suppressor, an implant that increases your Cyberware Capacity by 40-70.

Try your own build

One of my favorite things about Cyberpunk 2077 is that it has a playstyle for everyone.

Do you like quick melee combat?
Go crazy with the Mantis Blades/Sandevistan combo.

Prefer something more subtle?
Play as a Netrunner and neutralize enemies without them even noticing your presence.

Or if you prefer to be a one-man army, just go full berserker build.

These are just a few examples; there are many options for everyone. If you want to take it to the next level, you can even match it with your outfit and vehicles.

Move out of that old apartment

V’s apartment at the Megabuilding H10 is the starting home for all players. It is far from luxurious, but it grows on you after returning to it for the third or fourth time.

While it is a decent place, we can’t deny that it’s not a fitting apartment for someone who is an established name in the hyper-competitive underworld.

There are multiple apartments available in different areas of Night City: Northside, Japantown, Glen, and Corpo Plaza. They cost 5, 15, 40, and 55 thousand eddies respectively. You can unlock additional bonuses from these apartments.

If you are not comfortable spending that much money on a new apartment, you can simply buy one of the “makeovers” for the Megabuilding H10 apartment.

There are six options, and each one costs ten thousand eddies. Still not a small price tag, but definitely more affordable than moving to a fancy location.

Finish the arcade games

There are two arcades, Arasaka Tower 3D and Trauma Drama. Playing a game inside another game is always fun, at least when it’s something simple and straightforward like an arcade.

Trauma Drama is located inside the Netrunner shop, near the Kabuki Market fast travel point. If you ever played Contra, this will be familiar. After the game’s high score, you will receive an offering of an unpaid internship with the Trauma Team.

Go to a computer to apply for the internship, and later you will receive a Trauma Team outfit and a mini Trauma Team AV decoration that can be placed in your apartment.

The Arasaka Tower 3D arcade game is inside a church in the Badlands. The closest fast travel point is Protein Farms. This game is a reference to the attack made on Arasaka by Johnny Silverhand.

Play as him and eliminate the upcoming waves of enemies. Unlike Trauma Drama, this one doesn’t grant any rewards.

Last but not least is Roach Race, a game inspired by The Witcher. There are five levels: Kaer Morhen, Novigrad, Flotsam forests, Ard Skellig, and Isle of Mists.

If you have read the books or played The Witcher 3, you already know what these names mean. Getting the top score gets you the Roach Whisperer outfit.

Collect iconic and legendary items and weapons

Iconic and legendary items are what truly take your Cyberpunk 2077 experience to the next level. Their unique passive and active abilities aren’t only meant to increase your firepower; they also provide utility and allow you to create a playstyle around a specific theme or mechanic.

There are dozens of these items with many different ways to get them. As rewards for main and side jobs, making a specific choice, purchasing them directly from a sketchy vendor, finding them in unthinkable places, and more.

Getting all of them is a time-consuming task and something that completionists are going to enjoy the most. If that’s not your thing, I still encourage you to find a few that suit your idea of a fun playstyle. A good example of this would be playing as David Martinez from Cyberpunk Edgerunners.

Because the list is massive, we have a fully dedicated guide for all Legendary and Iconic items that explains what each of them do and how to get them, including the base game and Phantom Liberty.

Play Phantom Liberty

Phantom Liberty is the first and only expansion of Cyberpunk 2077. But don’t let that sentence fool you, Phantom Liberty is incredible and among the best game expansions, if not the best, I’ve ever played.

Thanks to the new characters that are introduced, the story is complex, immersive, and emotional. It has four different endings, which also unlock new endings for the base game.

Phantom Liberty adds a new accessible area called Dogtown. Dogtown is home to the most ruthless and heinous criminals.

NCPD isn’t allowed to enter it, so they’re allowed to do whatever they want as long as it doesn’t interfere with Kurt Hansen, ruler of Dogtown.

Dogtown’s entrance

My description is an oversimplification of what you can expect to get from Phantom Liberty, but if you enjoyed the base game, playing PL is a must-do.

I suggest that you finish the base game before playing PL, then play this expansion, and then replay the final mission again to see a different outcome.

Hunt for easter eggs

Cyberpunk 2077 might be within its own universe, but CD Projekt Red doesn’t let that stop them from adding some cool interactions and references to other media. Finding them is super fun, but it can take hours before you even find one. To be honest, I think that makes it even more satisfying.

My top four are the memorial to David Martinez and the other members of Edgerunners, a weapon case meant to be delivered to Mr. Wick, the club scene from the Blade movie, and the multiple references to The Witcher.

Finish your allies’ storylines

Being a merc in Night City is a very dangerous job. Because of this, anyone in this line of work has to be extremely careful about anyone they decide to let into their private life. Thankfully, you will find some very trustworthy individuals in Panam, Judy, River, Kerry, and even Johnny.

The main story makes these encounters happen naturally, but it’s up to you to develop V’s relationship with them. You can make them your lover. Or best friend. Or most-hated enemy.

Each one of them has their own questline. Doing it will let you know more about their past as well as unlock some particular interactions.

Prove yourself against MaxTac

Having top-of-the-line chrome and combined with good weapons, might make you feel too powerful. Regular enemies fall like flies, and even cyber psychos look weak compared to you. It’s a nice feeling to have, but eventually you get bored with running over mobs of enemies without breaking a sweat.

To truly test your skills and items, you need to face and defeat MaxTac teams. Depending on your build, I’d argue that they can be more difficult than most bosses, including Adam Smasher.

The reason is that all four members of a MaxTac squad are specialized in different combat styles. They cover each other’s weaknesses in the best possible way while not giving you any space to take countermeasures.

Netrunner, Sniper, Mantis Blade fighter, Assault, and Heavy are the five different specializations that the members of a MaxTac team can have.

Your top netrunners skills, sandevistan/mantis blades combo or overwhelming firepower won’t do a thing against MaxTac if you fight as if they were conventional enemies. You’ll need to strategize and play smart to overcome this challenge.

On the higher difficulties, your level won’t matter at all. One mistake and your health bar gets dropped in seconds.

The best (or worst) thing is that even if you manage to defeat a MaxTac team, a second one will arrive almost immediately to continue the job. If you survive, you can take a picture to capture the moment.

They are truly the most dangerous enemies in Cyberpunk 2077, or as Jackie puts it, the NCPD’s apex predators. These death squads are in charge of hunting cyber psychos, so they’ll only show up after you reach the max wanted level. You’ll be safe as long as you don’t go on an endless killing spree.

Put your driving skills to the test

With so many cool cars in the game, it would be a shame not to have a way to test them against other speed-loving chooms. The first way you can do this is by doing The Beast in Me. A job that involves a series of races and even a unique car as a reward if you make the right choices.

The second one involves repeatable races, which are unlocked after completing the mission The Distance. In order to increase your chances of success, I suggest that you pick a fast car. Some of the fastest cars are obtainable without spending any eddies.

My personal suggestions are the Weiler “Outlaw”, the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet, Quadra Type-66 “Hoon”, Yaiba ARV-Q340 Seminaru, and both the Caliburn “Murkmobile” and Caliburn “Mordred”. Getting the right car is just one step; winning the races still depends on your skill.

Start again

One of the biggest appeals of Cyberpunk 2077 is the fact that your decisions have a direct impact on the gameplay and the outcome of the story.

Every choice, big or small, matters. Some of them might not alter the final outcome, but making a new enemy, saving a life, or getting a unique item is always a possibility.

As with any major RPG, important decisions lock you out of some content. In this game, the difference can be night and day.

It’s not just about the final outcome but how you get there. I really encourage you to play again and do something different in your playthrough.

Maybe you played as a benevolent Nomad who always put honor and friendship first. Now try being a greedy, ruthless Corpo who doesn’t hesitate to betray anyone if that brings a benefit. You will re-experience Cyberpunk 2077 in a new and fresh way. This is just an example, do whatever you want and see how everything unfolds.

Complete every achievement

If you have done everything above, it’s time to complete every achievement (or trophies) in the game. This is the ultimate challenge for completionists and not an easy one to pull off.

There are achievements for the base game and for Phantom Liberty; some of them are secret/hidden, meaning that they are not listed on Steam/GOG/Xbox/PS. The only way to unlock them is to actually do them.
