There are three sumi-e locations on Awaju island in Assassin’s Creed Shadows Claws of Awaji expansion. Disocvering and completing them, will complete the side quest Painting Memories and grant you the Breathtaking achievement.

Painting Memories quest

There is a side quest you can start that will prompt you to find the sumi-e locations. You can pick it up from the Hideout, inside the main building. To be able to complete this quest, you need to own the Claws of Awaji expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

How to start it

After you visit Awaji and return to the Hideout, in the main building, you will see a new quest icon. Talk to Junjiro, who will ask you to take him to the island. You can’t do that, of course. Instead, you will bring him a few sumi-e drawings.

What happens if you skip it?

This quest is optional. You can simply go to Awaji, discover the sumi-e locations and make the drawings during your exploration of Awaji. When you find all locations, Naoe will think of Junjiro. You will then get the quest appear in your Objectives Board, under The League – Junjiro.

The dialogue is only slightly different if you start the quest before you complete the sumi-e or after.

Sumi-e locations on Awaji

Two of the locations are at the end of Trails, the Trail of Naruto, and the Trail of Eshima. The third location is near a Shrine in the middle of the island.

Unlike the Hidden Trails in the base game, the two trails here are not going to reward you with a gear item. Instead, they lead you to the sumi-e location where you can paint a beautiful vista.

The Trails are easier and have alternative paths and approach. You don’t need to strictly follow the path as it was the case with the base game’s hidden trails.

The location is on the east side of Izanagi Shrine, in Eshima Coast. If you have unlocked the Izanagi Kakurega, it’s a perfect quick travel for this task.

The easiest and quickest way to get there is by following the road to the south entrance to the Shrine and making a right turn.

From there, cross the bridge and keep following the path until you reach the spot overlooking the big tree.

Quest Rewards

Completing each of the sumi-e drawings, will grant you a wall decoration for the Hideout.

After you complete all three sumi-e drawings, return to the Hideout and talk to Junjiro again. This will complete the quest and you will get a beautiful new wall decoration as a reward – Junjiro’s Painting.

Junjiro's Painting Wall Decoration

Completing all three sumi-e, will grant you the Breathtaking Achievement, part of the new set of achievements only available with the Claws of Awaji expansion.
