Hidden Trails in Base game vs Expansion
In the base game of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Hidden Trails are parkour challenges where Naoe had to traverse difficult terrain to earn a reward and progress her storyline.
In the Claws of Awaji expansion, there are two Trails. They are very similar in style to the ones from the base game, but here Yasuke can take on the challenge as well. There are alternative paths for him.
Awaji island is only accessible if you own the Claws of Awaji expansion. It is available for free to everyone who pre-ordered Assassin’s Creed Shadows. You can purchase it separately from all platforms where the game is available.
The rewards at the end of the two trails on the island are sumi-e locations. Discovering them and making the drawings leads to unlocking the Breathtaking achievement.
How to start the Trail
The starting point for the Trail of Naruto is on the southwestern end of the island, in Fukura Bay sub-region. The two closest quick travel points are the Fukura Kakurega and the Fukura Hachiman Lookout.
You can reach the starting point by traveling the main road leading southwest from Fukura Village. You can also arrive by boat.
If you are doing the Trails before the main story of the expansion, you will not have access to Yasuke, so you will have to use Naoe.

Step-by-step Walkthrough
This walkthrough is from the point of view of Naoe. While the challenge is possible for Yasuke to complete, Naoe is far superior at these things and I recommend you use her to make it quicker and easier.
At the start, jump on the log and then make a left. There is a gap you have to hope over before you arrive at the edge of the rocks and have to continue on top of the ship’s mast and a rope to get to the small plateau on the other side.
At the other end of this plateau, there is a hook placement on the next ship’s mast. Hook onto it and swing to the other side. Remember to release the hook at the highest possible peak of the swing.
Take the stony path leading up. Next, cross the large gap by walking onto the log and continue on the path leading up toward the waterfall. There are three easy jumps you have to make to get to the other side of the waterfall.
When you reach the end of this path, hop onto the tree. From it, hop down on the ground below and continue to your left. You are walking in a circle around the waterfall, but are constantly gaining elevation.
Follow the path west. Make two small jumps down to the lower levels and hop onto a small branch protruding from the rock. Then from it, onto the big tree.
From the edge of the tree, use your hook to grapple to the branch in front of you below and land on the stone path ahead. This is a dangerous jump, so be careful when you release.
Further down the path, you will have to cross another gap on top of a log and use your hook two more times to get to the final destination where the sumi-e spot is.
The Naruto whirlpools in the game are inspired by the actual real-life location in the Naruto Strait, a channel between Tokushima and Awaji. The current in the strait is the fastest in Japan and the fourth fastest in the world
Reward
Completing this trail and making the sumi-e, will grant you a wall decoration for the Hideout.
