Disney just released the trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu

Disney just released the first official trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. Here’s my full breakdown!

The third season of The Mandalorian ended with Bo-Katan, Din Djarin, and the other Mandalorians claiming Mandalore after defeating Moff Gideon and his powerful forces.

But even if the ending was a happy one, that doesn’t eliminate what’s left of the Empire. There’s still a lot of cleanup to do, and who’s better suited for the task than our favorite Mandalorian?

The first thing we see is a new Razor Crest arriving on the New Republic base located in an undisclosed location. This is where we saw both Carson Teva and Zeb Orrelios hang out on the local cantina during Season 3 of The Mandalorian. I’m so happy to have the iconic Razor Crest back. I just hope it doesn’t get blown to pieces like the last time.

Next, Din Djarin and Sigourney Weaver’s character are meeting up in a New Republic establishment. Probably the same cantina that I just mentioned above. With the exception of the Anzellans, there are no characters speaking in the trailer. Meaning there is no context.

But thanks to the movie panel at SWC 2025, at least we know that Weaver’s character is a New Republic pilot who hires Din Djarin (and Grogu) to work in the name of the New Republic.

With Admiral Thrawn’s return, the Imperial Remnants are finally going to be united under a single banner. The New Republic is facing inevitable danger. I have no doubt that the bureaucrats at Coruscant won’t care until it’s too late.

I’m guessing that it’s the actual people who do the fighting who are going to try to find a solution for this new problem. However, it’s still unclear if this movie happens before, during, or after the events of Season 1 of Ahsoka, so I might be wrong on this one.

For a couple of seconds, we see the Razor Crest being engaged by two fighters. It’s very hard to distinguish anything due to the speed of it, but I’m almost certain that Djarin is being chased by TIE Interceptors.

My favorite bit of the trailer is, without a doubt, seeing Zeb beating Stormtroopers with an electrostaff. Like most of the shots, it happens very fast, but after watching so many episodes of Star Wars Rebels, it’s impossible not to recognize the silhouette of a Lasat.

What caught my attention from this moment is the style of the building they’re in. It’s something definitely pretty and expensive, but not something as pretentious as the Senate building or Naboo’s palace. The lighting, wood, and color palette make me believe that this is Mon Mothma’s estate on Chandrila.

I think it fits into the plot perfectly. As the head of the New Republic, the Empire remnants would make multiple attempts to attack her directly or indirectly. Her house wouldn’t be as guarded as Coruscant, and even if she’s not there, they could still hurt her by doing something to her family.

Also, there is no one better to protect Chancellor Mothma than the toughest member of the Ghost team.

Here’s a comparison between what we see in the trailer and a scene of Mothma’s estate from Season 2 of Andor. What do you think?

Anzellans have become one of those things that you love to see, even if they appear for a short period of time. Well, it seems that they are going to be fairly important in this movie. They’re not only funny, but the fact that they’re amazing Droidsmiths makes them a great ally. I’m eager to see what they and Grogu do together.

For the first time ever, we’re going to see a Hutt warrior on screen. Thousands of years before the Skywalker saga, Hutts were incredible warriors who conquered thousands of worlds. This is how they initially became so rich and powerful, but after many millennia, they turned into fat crime lords.

This guy is Rotta the Hutt, son of Jabba the Hutt. You might remember him from The Clone Wars; Ahsoka called him “Stinky”. The actor who is going to play him is none other than Jeremy Allen White.

Seconds later, Din Djarin is fighting two funny-looking droids who are guarding a vault. This door has the Hutt Cartel logo on it, which could explain why he is at the arena where Rotta is fighting and later facing some creatures in the same arena.

Last but not least is the scene where “Mando” blows up one of three AT-ATs. Aside from that, all we see is snow and mountains, which is not too much to work with. What we can do is think about where this could be. My guesses are: Vandor, Hoth, Ilum, Kijimi, Mygeeto, or Orto Plutonia.

This was an odd trailer. They showed us something but told us nothing. It’s very strange that we didn’t hear any significant dialogue. Disney has a tendency to reveal too much of their movie plots in their trailers, mainly just to create hype around them.

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. I’m tired of knowing half the plot of a movie weeks before getting to see it. It’s nice that, for once, we’re not told anything important. This is a different trailer from what was shown to the attendees of Star Wars Celebration 2025, but that also doesn’t show too much.

I’m hoping that we’re kept in the dark as much as possible before watching The Mandalorian and Grogu when it comes out on May 22, 2026.
