How to unlock the Scholar and Undertaker, Nightreign’s newest playable Nightfarer characters released as part of The Forsaken Hollows DLC.

Purchase the DLC

You must purchase The Forsaken Hollows DLC or Nightreign Deluxe Edition to be able to play as the Scholar or Undertaker. The DLC is available on your platform of choice and costs USD$15. It also comes with 2 new bosses and a new Shifting Earth.

Defeat Tricephalos

Tricephalos is the first Nightlord you can fight, he’s the Cerberus-style, three-headed, fire-breathing wolf. Once you beat him, you’ll gain access to the rest of the game’s content including the DLC.

Speak to the Iron Menial

The Iron Menial is a repurposed magical Marionette Soldier and the custodian of the Roundtable Hold in Nightreign. You’ll usually find him standing politely at the north end of the west wing in the Hold, opposite the Small Jar Bazaar.

Speak to the Small Jar

The Iron Menial will relay a message from the Small Jar, who will direct you to (finally!) open the door previously blocked by his bazaar.

Open the Door and Confront the Dreglord

Once you open the door, you’ll immediately be teleported to a fight against the Dreglord alongside the Scholar and Undertaker. In typical Souls fashion, you will lose, but that’s okay.

Enter the Chapel

After getting dregg’d across the floor, you’ll respawn back at the Roundtable Hold and can safely enter the chapel by the Small Jar Bazaar where you’ll find both the Scholar and Duchess.

Speak to the Nightfarers

Speaking to each of them will unlock them as playable characters and initiate their Remembrance quests. After you speak with them both, you’ll receive a message from the heavens and unlock the new Shifting Earth, “The Great Hollows”.

A voice is heard from within the light.
“We shall descend when the world desires balance.”

Visit the Collector’s Signboard

There are also some new Relic Rites-related goodies available for purchase from the Collector’s Signboard including some new Urns/Goblets for each Nightfarer and Deep Large Scenic Flatstone, which gives you a random Deep Grand Relic that provides 3 buffs.

The Deep Large Scenic Flatstones cost 10 Sovereign Sigils while the new Decrepit and Forgotten Goblets cost 4 Sovereign Sigils each. The Scholar and Undertaker also have their own Sealed and Soot-Covered Urns just like the other Nightfarers do.

Endonae is a passionate gamer who's particularly fond of challenging action RPGs and open world games with visceral combat. The closer it is to being a Soulslike, the better. Ranged casters, particularly of the energy or elemental variety, are his bread and butter. Lightsabers are pretty cool, too.
