Dave Filoni is Lucasfilm’s new President | Star Wars Weekly News

Dave Filoni replaces Kathleen Kennedy as President of Lucasfilm, new reveals by Hasbro, changes coming to Disney Galaxy’s Edge, and everything that happened in the week of January 10 – January 16, 2026.

Dave Filoni becomes President of Lucasfilm

After 14 years as head of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy is officially stepping down from her role to return to being a full-time producer. As a result, Dave Filoni is the new President and Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm, with Lynwen Brennan serving as Co-President.

While Filoni is definitely the most obvious choice, a transition of this type will inevitably come with decisions that will anger some fans and please others.

Kathleen Kennedy is far from having a perfect record, with the sequel trilogy having so many issues during its production. Whether we enjoyed the result or not, all three movies were financial hits.

Then we have Andor, which I consider to be the best thing in Star Wars after the original trilogy. A series so expensive that other executives tried to shut it down, but according to Tony Gilroy, it was because Kennedy really pushed for it that it was possible to make it.

On the other hand, we have Filoni. A man considered by many to be George Lucas’ “heir”. Filoni has been around for less time than Kathleen Kennedy, but his record isn’t perfect either.

Despite making incredible things with Clone Wars, Rebels, and the first seasons of The Mandalorian, the first season of Ahsoka, and the third season of The Mandalorian could have been a lot better.

Filoni is now the bearer of a huge responsibility, and while I have no doubt that he wants to make good series and movies, there are other factors (Disney) to take into consideration.

Brennan joined ILM in 1999 and later went to Lucasfilm. Filoni is going to need an experienced partner and, at least on paper, Brennan appears to be the perfect candidate.

I can’t imagine how it must feel to become the head of Lucasfilm just 14 years after Finloni’s entrance and introduction. Let’s hope that some very exciting and different things are coming with this new leadership. Though I believe that we won’t be able to see the effect of this until 2027 or even later.

The Original Trilogy is coming to Galaxy’s Edge

A few days ago, Disneyland Resort announced that starting April 29, 2026, the Black Spire Outpost is expanding its timeline by introducing elements and characters from the original trilogy.

Visitors can expect to see Darth Vader, Stormtroopers, Chewbacca, Han Solo, Leia, and Luke Skywalker wander around Batuu with some of the music written by John Williams sounding in the background. These changes will come with updates to the physical installations of the park and the shops.

Hasbro Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals

Hasbro revealed new figures of both the Black Series and Vintage Collection in their most recent Fanstream. These figures are not going to be as desired as something that appears in a game or series, but there’s definitely some appeal due to how few figures of these characters there are compared to the more important characters of the franchise.

For the Vintage Collection, we have a new Mos Eisley Cantina pack that comes with Chalmun, Garindan, Labria & Arleil Schous. All of them have at least one accessory. Pre-orders start January 28, 2026.

Princess Leia in her ceremonial outfit was the second Vintage Collection (Retro) reveal, though she is only one of the six figures that will be included in the next Original Trilogy six-figure multipack.

As for the Black Series, the three new figures are Taun We, Watto, and a Geonosian Warrior. All three are expected to release on June 1, 2026.

Last but definitely not least is Lord Starkiller, from The Force Unleashed. He wields two lightsabers with four more hanging from his belt.

They didn’t show any images of the package, so the image you see below is taken from the stream. Pre-order for this figure begins February 4, 2026.

If you want to see more angles of these figures, you can check out the whole Fanstream below.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Echoes of the Empire

This five-part comic series from Marvel will serve as a tie-in series with the new timeline event that is happening at Galaxy’s Edge on April 29, 2026. The first issue will be released on April 22.

Luke, Leia, and Chewie will head to Batuu searching for important information about a dangerous relic. This tie-in series is written by Ethan Sacks and drawn by artists Jethro Morales and Roi Mercado.

Legacy of Vader #12

The series comes to its conclusion with Kylo Ren reaching the final and darkest part of this journey. He has encountered many obstacles, but Ren still needs to overcome the visions of the main thing that brought him here. Release date: January 14, 2026.
