Good cause, great community, fantastic social experience. I loved this event!
I’ve had so much fun this Saturday evening, I don’t think I can explain it properly with words. For the third year I am a part of the Wookiee Alliance SWTOR Extra Life Team. For the 3rd time I participate in a Musco-focused special game, which was the big deal for this event. But, let me start from the beginning.
At the bottom of the this blog post I have attached the full video recording of my participation in the event!
What is Extra Life
Extra Life is a charity event, hosted by gamers for gamers. The goal is to rise awareness and support for Childrens Hospitals in North America (for now, world wide one day… hopefully!) In the previous years, Team Wookiee Alliance has collected over $9000 in donations. This Saturday was the Kick-Off event with the big day being later in November.
Yup, you’ve guessed it. SWTOR community manager Eric Musco will join and participate in the main event too. The Game Day is 4th November and this is when every single participant is trying to host a gaming related live stream for as long as they can, up to 24 hours (or even longer). Just playing games doesn’t help sick kids. What we do during these events is rise awareness and ask for donations to this good cause.
This Saturday was the warm-up part. The Kick-Off event served to rise awareness and make as many players and fans of SWTOR and games overall familiar with Extra Life. Donations were not the focus, but I am happy to announce that I have received several already from my Patrons and Subscribers both before and after the event. The Wookiee Alliance team as a group has already collected nearly 25% of the set goal. Well, we know that goals/targets are there just for fun. We all hope to inspire the wonderful SWTOR community to help out with as many donations as possible.
Now, onto the event itself
For me it was a late evening event, for most of the participants it was in late morning and for some it was in the middle of the night!
The event started at ~17gmt with a gathering on the Unholy Alliance Guild Ship (Harbinger server). The first event was completing a semi-hidden (secret) achievement to obtain a pet in the CZ-198 area, where you have to use your Microbinoculars (no way I can spell that correctly!) to discover it. After that it was time for an easy and smooth run to the toughest and most valuable Datacron in Star Wars The Old Republic – The Fleet Datacron. Preparations were made and most of the mechanics to obtain this secret power and knowledge of the ancient Datacrons were skipped in order for all the ~25 participants to obtain it in a relatively short time. Then came the big game event – the Musco Madness Scagenging Hunt. I asked my Patrons to give me a suggestion for a name of my Musco character and out of the available suggestions I picked Muscookie Monster. The event lasted about 90 minutes and involved leveling a character from scratch while hunting for the correct answers to 9 questions about items, characters or places, located in the first 3 starting areas – Tython/Ord Mantel, The Republic Fleet and Coruscant. I finished 3rd and am kind of regretting the fact that I approached it a bit too casually. Meh, I could have been 2nd or even 1st :))). Winner was Sechari, who actually submitted his answers well ahead of the rest of us. I guess being up in the middle of the night (he is one of the heroes who had to stay up all night for this) isn’t a problem for him!
There were rewards for the first 3 and I gave mine to my live audience – a 30 days Sub code for SWTOR along with several other Giveaways that I did during the show.
Looking forward to the big thing in November!!! Hopefully, I’ll be able to wear the 2 specially mae for this event t-shirts I ordered. Sadly, they never arrived in time. In the end, I would like to thank Unholy Alliance and Wookiee Mistake guilds for being my friends and for the constant support they show for me and my content. I was proud and glad to be a part of the Kick-Off.
