This weeks’ edition of Star Citizen’s Around the Verse video series was dedicated to showing the players current progress of Squadron 42 – the solo campaign of Star Citizen. And another reminder, if you want to get the package for cheap, you have only a few days left!

First, a few introductory words for those of you, who may not be aware of what Squadron 42 is: Squadron 42 is a single player campaign that takes place within the Star Citizen universe. It can be played off-line. Squadron 42 will be released in 3 episodes or stand alone games, the first of which will become available in the near future. The first episode will have 70 missions which will total up to 20 hours of gameplay.

Mark Hamill stars in a brand new Star Citizen Squadron 42 Trailer

The In-Universe role of Squadron 42 states that this is the legendary volunteer unit assigned to the UEE’s Paul Steed (CV 023) of the 2nd Fleet of the United Empire of Earth Navy. It can be found in many warzones and even took part in the Second Tevarin War’s infamous Battle of Centauri in 2610. Aria Reilly was a legendary member of Squadron 42 who favored the F7A Hornet. The F7C Hornet Wildfire was built as a member of the Masters of Flight series in conjunction with Arena Commander to pay tribute to Aria Reilly, equipped with her preferred loadout and a custom special edition livery. Those who enlist with the 42nd Squadron may earn UEE Citizenship.

Watch One Hour of Star Citizen Squadron 42 NEW Gameplay

The recent episode of Around the Verse showed us a few new details about Squadron 42. We got to board the Idris frigate, which was shown to the public in the Holiday promo video “Vertical Slice” from last December. The dev team wanted to illustrate the integration of their complex AI tech with the story of the game. They are using this integration to give NPCs appropriate schedules, motivations and reactions. This is done so the massive 85 person crew could be brought to life. Creating an immersive cinematic experience that reacts to the players dinamically is a huge priority for the developers.

Also, a reminder, that this weekend is your last chance to upgrade your Star Citizen starter package by adding Squadron 42 for $15 (which also includes Arena Commander and Star Marine). You can purchase it from the game’s official web store.
