CD Projekt Red, creators of The Witcher series of games, in cooperation with Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe, announce Geralt of Rivia joining the playable character roster of Soulcalibur VI.

The world’s most famous and recognized witcher – the White Wolf Geralt of Rivia, will appear as a guest character in Soulcalibur IV. Geralt was trained at the elite School of the Wolf and is considered one of the deadliest monster slayers. He possesses superhuman reflexes and strength, as well as superior sword fighting skills. Players who choose to fight as Geralt will utilize the witcher’s signature fighting style – a combination of swordplay, ability-enhancing potions, and combat magic.

Doug Cockle, the English voice of Geralt of Rivia, returns in Soulcalibur VI to reprise the role. Among the arenas will also be the Training Grounds of Kaer Morhen – home of the School of the Wolf. Accompanying players in battle will be “Hunt or be Hunted” – an iconic composition from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt soundtrack.

“Soulcalibur is well-known in the fighting games genre for including iconic guest characters. When we were approached with the idea of doing a crossover, we thought our community would really enjoy playing as the witcher,” said Marcin Momot, Community Lead at CD Projekt Red. “We’ve collaborated with Bandai Namco artists to faithfully recreate Geralt, and shared original Witcher 3 assets like Geralt’s model, animations, and weapons. I think Bandai Namco did an outstanding job of capturing all the details and introducing The Witcher to Soulcalibur in a way fans of both series will enjoy.”

And as we can see from the trailer, many of Geralt’s typical combat movements, the usage of Signs and effects of them are recreated exactly as we remember them from The Witcher 3:Wild Hunt.

Soulcalibur IV is the fifth installment in Namco’s Soulcalibur series of fighting games, released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2008. Soulcalibur IV included three characters from the Star Wars franchise as playable fighters. It features Story, Arcade, Training, and Museum modes. A new mode, Tower of Lost Souls, requires the player to win battles in order to gain rewards.

The story of Soulcalibur IV, told via in-game written profiles and movies, centers around the appearance of the ancient king Algol, his tower, and his connection to the origin of the spirit sword named Soulcalibur. Every character’s motivation and relationship to the other characters is diagrammed in a mode called Chain of Souls. As usual, none of the individual endings from the previous game are considered canonical events, and most of the characters’ motivations from that game remain unresolved. However, a small number of characters did experience important events associated with universal Soulcalibur III events. Siegfried has died and been resurrected by the Soulcalibur sword. Sophitia’s daughter Pyrrha has been kidnapped by Tira and malfested by Soul Edge, leaving Sophitia to fight for the side of evil in defense of her now-corrupted daughter. Tira is now suffering from a split-personality disorder. Most characters are still motivated by a desire to either obtain, destroy, or defend one or both of the legendary swords now carried by Siegfried and Nightmare, and most characters face Algol as the final boss of Story mode. All characters feature animated ending movies.
