During an earnings call earlier today Disney chairman Bob Iger made a huge announcement. Lucasfilm is currently in development of a second live-action Star Wars Series for Disney +, the new direct to consumer streaming service of the company.
The new series follows the adventures of the now famous rebel spy Cassian Andor, who we know as Captain Cassian Andor from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story from 2016.
The show will tell of his life prior to the events of the movie.
The best part truly is the fact that Diego Luna returns to reprize his own role!
His statement, quoted by StarWars.com:
Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me. I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey.
We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.
The show will include a ton of espionage and spy-related missions and adventures that aim to show the Star Wars universe from a different angle. Much like the Rogue One movie attempted and (in my opinion) succeeded!
The series will go into production next year. A release date has not yet been announced.
Vulkk’s thoughts: I am so thrilled to hear that not only my favorite character from Rogue One gets his own TV Show, but Diego Luna is returning for the role as well. I had never seen him act before and can’t tell if he played very well in Rogue One or if this is just the real person, who we now identify as Cassian, but I liked this character and the way he was portrayed in the movie very much.
Most of you know I am a Star Wars junkie, but I truly do believe this show has a lot of potential to be both innovative and stay true to the Franchise.
Do you share my opinion and why?
