This overview is written by Gem – captain of this year’s Extra Life event in SWTOR and a fellow content creator. Learn from her own words how things went!
It’s Tuesday, November 6th, and another Extra Life Gaming Marathon has successfully passed. 2018 marks the fifth year Unholy Alliance Guilds has hosted a fundraising event. Everyone came together and did their part with such excellence that my job ran pretty smoothly! It really doesn’t surprise me, though; We are talking about an excellent community. People who have literally given the shirts off their backs to help others. As I think back on our Gameday, a few things stand out.
There was plenty of coffee flowing! Some people were up before the crack of dawn due to their time zones. These people cared so much about helping kids that not even darkness could keep them away. Others found themselves staying up way past bedtime and more than a few missed soccer games and hockey practices. Imperial and Republican players put aside their conflicting beliefs of the Empire and found common ground. Teamwork was the attitude of the day, as well as some healthy competition.
I was asked what my favorite event was and I realized I can’t pick just one. From a Star Wars version of Quiplash to a “PG” version of Star Wars Match Game, some of the answers people gave throughout the day had folks rolling with laughter! I mean, to hear Musco say “with a winkie face” has to be the best thing ever! Strolling through the cantinas in search of Paxton Rall was relaxing as well as educational. We learned a lot about what goes on in that guy’s head. The Old School Mount Show was a fun way to showcase our favorite mounts and even see some that are no longer in production. I think the best thing about that event was the confused reactions from other players when we cruised Nar Shadaa. It was epic! Competitive conflict did not disappoint as there was plenty of fighting going on. Many participated in the Corellian Run and Gun, the Desperately Seeking CZ-198, and the Last Man Standing events. Finishing off the marathon with a cosplay contest and dance party was truly the best ending in my opinion.
Several of our content creators streamed our Team Wookiee Alliance activities and have them posted for replay. If you missed some of the events and wish you could see them then I have good news! Vulkk has also been an incredible supporter and even though he was unable to join us in streaming he has excellent information and highlights.
If you think it’s too late to donate then let me reassure you it’s not! Donations made to Extra Life until the end of the year will still be counted. I know we all want to donate and support our friends and there is nothing wrong with that. However, I encourage you to find a team member that hasn’t met their goal yet and donate through their pages. You can find the members of Team Wookiee Alliance by clicking on the roster link.
