Anthem is a group-based game and shines when you play with others. Be it Strongholds, Seasonal Content or Freeplay, it’s a lot more fun if you are not flying solo. I often hear and see a lot of complaints about lack of grouping opportunities. This article will give you some ideas and suggestions where and how to look for players to group up with and enhance your gaming experience. The whole game gets a lot better if you don’t run it alone or with Quick Matches all the time!
I hope you took a minute of your time to check out the featured video above? Yes? Thanks. It is related to another article/guide I wrote a few months back and keep updating it when needed. It lists and describes all of your options and activities when you reach the EndGame in Anthem. But the EndGame is not even half as fun farming it alone compared to when you play with a group of people you can talk strategies and plan your actions.
Anthem’s EndGame is tricky at high difficulties and quite boring in lower difficulties. How to find the proper balance? Group up! But not just for a “quickie”. Find a team you can communicate with. How you do that?
The Crystals-farming, for example, is a huge pain if you have to endure the chaotic random groups where nobody can talk to the rest of their teammates and even if they want to, the VOIP gets broken and all you hear is static. Things get even worse if you are new to the content and have no clue where to go and what to do. The Cataclysm drops you right into the action with little to no clue of what to do in the Storm! Luckily, you have this massive Anthem Cataclysm Complete Guide to help you get a better understanding of the new map and its secrets.
Now, what to do? How to find a god team you can play with and talk to freely. One word, Discord! There are other options, of course, like Reddit posts and even forums, but Discord is king right now!
There are two open to the public Discord servers I do recommend. They both accept players all the time. The Anthem The Game Discord Server and the Low Sodium Lancers Discord Server. Both of them spawned from their respective SubReddit boards. The first one is considered the main game discord with over 32 thousand players at the time of this publication, while the second one strives to keep true to its name and offers more of a guild-like environment. This server does have a guild and you can find instructions on how to join it inside.
To join a Discord, all you need is an account. For some servers, you might be required to be a member for a certain amount of time before you can start participating in the conversations. Don’t worry, this requirement is usually a few minutes only – to prevent spammers.
In some cases you may have to check a channel dedicated to selecting your role. Without a role you may not be able to see the full contents of the Discord server you have joined, such as chat channels and live channels or groups.
Voice chat is the best way to learn yours and the other javelins, and not only. Often you will not be even required to talk. If you are shy or have no working mic in front of you, simply stay in the channel and do what others tell you to. Just don’t communicate with your team through a public channel. Others don’t need to read your conversation or attack plan.
Both of the above-mentioned Discords have dedicated LFG (Looking-For-Group) channels and chat rooms, split for the three major platforms – PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox.
What to do to find a group in Discord? Let me give you a quick example. You simply jump into an empty voice channel and wait for others to jump in or invite them via the chat. You can also join one that has empty spots and ask for an invite if the players there are willing to throw you one.
Looking for a group? Write that down in an understandable manner in the appropriate chat channel for your platform or even world region and wait to see if someone else would respond or invite you. It does help if your Account Handle matches your Discord name. You can have different names/handles in different Discord servers, you know.
If you look around, you will find a lot more options. There are private or invite-only Discords. There are some managed by content creators as well. They may be open or private, depending on the owner’s decision on how to manage it.
The Official Anthem Reddit and Low Sodium Reddit boards also offer regular threats there people could/would share their plans and/or account handles for others to find them. I personally don’t think these work as well as the Discord option, because I myself have not had much luck with them. To be honest, I didn’t test this method thoroughly, so give it a go and see for yourself.
I personally find the Discord option far superior. The larger servers are usually supported with greater audio quality too.
A third option, and quite a new one still, are the Guilds. That’s right. Anthem finally has a guilds feature. Sadly, it is very primitive at the moment. It was released with the Cataclysm Update. Currently the guild functionalities are very limited, but the feature does allow you to communicate with guild members via a mobile phone app and guilds are also included in your Alliance Coin earnings.
You can be creative, of course, and find other ways to group up and have fun. The sources I listed and explained in this article are the ones I find to be the most reliable and stable. The bigger the platform you rely on, the more sure you can be that it will persist through content droughts. Right now Anthem is full of activity and if you can’t find a group for your content, you are either playing in a bad time (which cannot always be manually controlled, I know) or you are not looking for teammates in the right places.
It is likely that you may still not be able to always find a group for a Legendary Mission or to do the Story of the game, but you have to fit in with the population. Right now it is very easy to find players to run the Cataclysm with. Things like the Legendary missions have never really been player-favorite content, so finding a team for a GM3 run through one would be still difficult.
I hope you found this useful. Do you have other ideas or suggestions? How do you go about finding a group for Anthem’s content?
