Disney Plus has, much to my surprise, launched in The Netherlands. So imagine when you are up early and get ready for work and on your way to work you read your Facebook timeline only to see that some people are posting screenshots of a Disney interface. I take a closer look and see that I am able to get a trial subscription to Disneyplus for the amazing price of €0,01.
Ofcourse the first thing I do is get Disney Plus. Because I have waited a long time for it. I read about the service months ago and have kept track of what was going to be on it.We all know that The Mandalorian is coming but also Bucky and Falcon, WandaVision, Moon Knight and She-Hulk. But all those shows aren’t available yet. The Mandalorian will make its’ debut on November 12, 2019. Which is something I am looking forward to. It is Star Wars and one of my favorite directors / writers of all time is attached to the project: Jon Favreau. Favreau is responsible for the first two Iron Man movies that launched The Marvel Cinematic Universe. Favreau is also responsible for one of my favorite movies from the past decade called Chef. I haven’t seen his Lion King yet but I did watch his Jungle Book so color me impressed with his work.
Disney Plus presents Marvel
So I took a look around and there is plenty of stuff available on Disney Plus. Most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies are in there. Almost all the cartoons of Marvel is available. Examples are Spiderman and his amazing friends from the 1970s. And Spider-Woman, also from the 1970s. But there is one of the first cartoons of Spider-Man too. I have watched some of the old episodes, mostly out of nostalgic feelings, and while I liked the stories. The animations didn’t really persist the test of time. Nor did some of the stories but that aside. It was fun to watch the old episodes again.
The best part of the Marvel section on Disney Plus is that they have added almost all of the TV shows from recent history on it. I saw the following shows in the library: Agents of SHIELD, The Runaways, The Inhumans and best of all: Agent Carter!
Back then I found Agent Carter was one of my favorites. Ofcourse Hayley Atwell does wonders but the stories were groundbreaking I found back then. Too bad they canceled the show after the second season. Though understandable, ABC Television doesn’t make TV shows for charity and if they dont make some money off of it then it is over soon.
Disney’s movies on Disney Plus
Ofcourse, the best part of the Disney Plus experience is that you get to watch a buttload of the Disney movies that you either watched as a kid or the most recent ones. Like the remake/sequal of Mary Poppins and the original Mary Poppins too. And what do you make of the old Herbie movies? Up to the one with Lindsay Lohan. That’s just amazing.
I even found a movie called The Computer wore Tennis shoes with a very young Kurt Russell. I really have to watch that. It is on my to watchlist. That’s a nice feature that they have already. Add things to your To watch list.
Star Wars – The Entire Library?
The Star Wars universe was pretty interesting too. They have added all of the cartoons and all of the movies from what I saw. And though I am a bit disappointed with the last few movies of the Star Wars universe, I am a sucker for the Lucas era of the franchise.
I have added The Clone Wars to my list and I am hoping it will be a good one. I have never watched the show so.
Prices and conclusion
All in all, I am pretty impressed by the service, a lot of stuff has been added already and I expect there will be more in the future. On top of that we are getting more TV shows like The Mandalorian and Wandavision and more. Disney Plus could really bite off a chunk from the Netflix subscribers. That said, Netflix has a lot more original content while Disney Plus are just starting out and I have read some articles about people being tired of streaming already.
But then again, Disney Plus only costs $6,99 on launch or $70 a year, depending on what part of the world you are in. And I am getting it for a whole year , I know that for sure.
The current state of Disney Plus shows that there is a lot of stuff missing. Multilinguality for instance. HDR missing , Dolby sound is missing, 4K support too. Some subtitles are missing too.
But they got time for all that until November 12 and I am happy that I got to see a “beta” version of Disney Plus. It is well worth the money.
Will you get Disney Plus or at least consider it? Or will u stick with one of the other streamingservices such as Netflux, AppleTV or Hulu? Let us know in the comments.
