Disney revealed the title of the next Star Wars animated TV Show to be released in 2021 exclusively on the giant’s own streaming platrofm Disney+. Star Wars: The Bad Batch will follow the adventures of the Bad Batch team of special clone troopers in the aftermath of the Clone Wars!
About time! Disney revealed that the Bad Batch is next in line to join the Disney+ streaming roster.
But what is the Bad Batch? The Bad Batch is an elite and very special team of commandos that was introduced in the final story arc of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series. In 2021 a new animated TV series, called Star Wars: The Bad Batch, will premiere exclusively on Disney +. The show will continue the story almost exactly where The Clone Wars left us. The Bad Batch will have to deal with the immediate aftermath of the end of the war.
Each of the members of this unique team is genetically different in that they each possess an exceptional skill. All of this makes them a perfect team for the toughest jobs nobody else can pull off.
After the end of the war, The Bad Batch find themselves picking up various mercenary missions as they search for their new purpose.
“Giving new and existing fans the final chapter of Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been our honor at Disney+, and we are overjoyed by the global response to this landmark series,” said Agnes Chu, senior vice president, Content, Disney+ for starwars.com. “While The Clone Wars may have come to its conclusion, our partnership with the groundbreaking storytellers and artists at Lucasfilm Animation is only beginning. We are thrilled to bring Dave Filoni’s vision to life through the next adventures of the Bad Batch.”
You have guessed it! Dave Filoni is the executive producer of Star Wars The Bad Batch. After having his first taste with live action in The Mandalorian, Dave is ready to return to where his talents shine the most – animation.
Brad Rau and Jennifer Corbett, who helped Dave Filoni with Rebels and Resistance respectively, will be co-executive producers. Josh Rimes will be a produser.
There is no exact date yet for the release of the new TV series, but all of the Star Wars catalog is now available for streaming on Disney’s own platform.
The logo of the show reminds us of the one from The Clone Wars. It is very likely that Lucasfilm will rely on The Clone Wars’ fan masses after The Resistance failed with the fans (me included) and ended suddenly after only two seasons.
The Clone Wars ended fantastically and the last story arc was made like a real cinematic experience.
Let’s make it personal. For so many years I struggled to like Ahsoka.
I know, I know…
Now I finally found a way to like this character. Her actions in the final episodes of the show made me forget the stupid teenage kid we saw for the first time in the 2008 Clone Wars movie.
I really felt like I didn’t want The Clone Wars to end. Disney now gives me a chance to continue watching it without re-watching it. Cool!
With such a strong final season of The Clone Wars, I am not surprised at all to hear that the next series will continue the story from where we left it – right after the war of the clones has finally ended.
There is little information on the style of the animation, but that is not the most important part. I think Lucasfilm and Dave Filoni learned their lesson with the silly The Resistance show, we are all ready to return to the true Star Wars stuff.
When will The Old Republic’s time come? That’s a topic for another time and place. We continue to wait. Disney is simply playing it safe right now.
I expect The Bad Batch will follow the guidelines of The Clone Wars series. Does that mean Disney is afraid to try new things any more?
I don’t really care. The Bad Batch promises to deliver what I (we?) all needed more of – The Clone Wars.
There is a dark side to this show’s premise, though. Four episodes were kind of enough for us to learn all we could (and needed) about the members of The Bad Batch. These characters did not show much prospect for a multidimensional progression in their personalities.
The thing that worries me the most is the mention that they will take on a number of mercenary missions. This one to me screams “filler episodes” and “lack of story direction”. We will see.
What about you? How do you feel about more of the same?
