Reda is back in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and brings a lot of goodies with himself for trading. Contracts are back as well. Who is Reda the Black Market Merchant, what you can purchase from Reda’s Shop and how to get the Opal currency he trades with – all of this in today’s guide! Let’s go!
To pinpoint and explain Reda’s appearance, this guide males a slightest reference to a quest from the main storyline. Nothing really is spoiled, but to give you a better understanding of how and when this merchant appears in the game, I had to mention it.

What is Reda’s Shop in AC Valhalla
Reda is an NPC that appears in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. He brings a lot of mystery with himself as well as an interesting collection of unique items only found in the cash-shop. Reda also brings an amazing reference to Assassin’s Creed Origins.
Who is Reda
Reda is a black market merchant, who will stop by your Settlement Ravensthorpe at some point during the main storyline (more on that below). He is making a return from his first appearance in Assassin’s Creed Origins. Reda is part of an organization known as the “Thousand Eyes”.
Allegedly an orphan, Reda travelled throughout Egypt with his camel, mostly selling rare and legendary weapons and carbon crystals. Also a gambler, Reda proposed customers to buy the random content of the Heka chest, a mystery box. In 48 BCE, Reda came across the Medjay Bayek of Siwa in Yamu, who was passing through the village towards Alexandria. Reda introduced himself to Bayek, offering to sell his goods to the Medjay if he needed them. – quote from the Wiki.
It is not perfectly clear yet why and how he is back in the 9th century and still a child. Either it’s a glitch in the Animus or there is a bigger secret going on here.
How to find Reda
You can’t find Reda. He finds you. Reda appears along with a colleague of his in your Settlement when you finish the mission “Heavy is the Head”, part of the main storyline. There is no way to get this merchant to appear anywhere in the game earlier than this.
My Settlement was Level 2 when he appeared. I don’t know if it depends on that, but it is more likely that he arrives after the aforementioned mission.
There is no notification or update specifically about his appearance in Ravensthorpe, so you would have to manually come back to your village and check out.
Reda’s Shop is established directly in front of you as you land. It’s large, red-ish and easy to spot. Beyond the first conversation where you introduce yourselves to each other, there is no other requirements or quest to do before you can start trading with Reda.
What can you buy from Reda’s Shop
At Reda’s Shop in your Settlement you can find various rare items, including cosmetics that are otherwise available for real life money (via Helix points) in the Ubisoft shop.
Reda keeps his offerings fresh and updated frequently. He has one item that refreshes daily and three others that refresh each week. The weekly reset is on Tuesday. The exact time is 14:00 GMT for everything: Daily and Weekly resets of contracts and items Reda is offering.
The contents of Reda’s Shop are randomly generated and can vary between gear, decorations, mounts, tatoos and everything else that you can purchase from Ubisoft’s store.
When you purchase something, you will find it in the appropriate place. If it’s an armor or weapon item, it will be available in your Inventory. If it’s a mount or a raven skin, look for it in the Stables. If it’s cosmetic or tatoo, check the corresponding house in your settlement for this.
What is Opal in AC Valhalla
In the top left corner of Reda’s Shop menu you see the amount of Opal you currently have. Opal is a unique currency that cannot be purchased or traded for. It can only be found in the game’s world or earned through contract quests (more on those below). Opal is the only currency this black market merchant is interested in. There is no way to purchase his goods with anything else.
Reda’s prices are not cheap. A tatoo would usually cost you 50 Opal. A weapon or shield will be in the range of 120 Opal and a mount would be 150 Opal. Prices may vary depending on the items’ rarity and quality of course.
Find Reda’s associates in other places
You do not need to return to Ravensthorpe all the time when you want to pick up a new contract. In towns all around the map there are associates of Reda’s. You will recognize them by their dress-code. just look for a person wearing a woven cross symbol like the one on the image below (a shadow market merchant on in Grantebridge.
How to get Opal in AC Valhalla
Among the many different materials Opal is the rarest of them all. Its only use is to trade with it at Reda’s Shop. Opal can be obtained in a few different ways.
You can check how much of this valuable resource you have if you open your Inventory and then open the Bag (on the right side). The AC Valhalla Starter Guide has a useful tips on how to manage your travels and exploration.
Your first conversation with Reda will boost you with 50 Opals. Kind of like a teaser to try a trade if you like. My advise is to keep your Opals until you spot something absolutely amazing or must-have in the store. There is no guarantee if or when that might happen, though.
As the inventory of Cash-store items grows with Ubisoft releasing more and more packs, the chances to get a specific item will get slimmer.
There are two methods of obtaining this extremely rare and valuable currency. Both are described below.
Get Opal by exploring the world
As you roam around you may very rarely encounter small quantities (usually only 1 per node) of Opal. The nodes are usually situated in places you would not normally visit otherwise. To make things easier you can also send your Raven companion to scout the region for the Opal sign on the map.
Here is an example of where and how you can find Opal – in the image below there is one stone just sitting on this table.
And here is one inside a building in Lincoln.
These are extremely rare and hard to come by, and as I suggest in this guide, you are better off completing Contracts for Reda and his associates than roaming around looking for Opal like that.
Get Opal by completing Contracts
This is the primary method of getting Opal in AC Valhalla. Contracts become available as soon as you meet Reda. He will usually give you only a few each day. The contracts appear as missions in the specific region they are located in.
To get a contract, simply speak to Reda and choose the second option “I want a contract”
Here is an example of the three contracts available at the time of this publication:
Daily Contracts reward you with 5 Opals, while the Weekly ones are more generous with 20. Even if you pick up all contracts, the option will still be yellow and active. Reda will welcome and thank you for your desire to pick up a contract, but the menu would open up empty.
Some times contracts are in areas that require higher Power Level. Check your Quests Tab to see which contracts you have available and what their requirements are.
Contracts’ objectives vary from non-combat to assassinating a target. It’s brainless busy work most of the time, but that’s not a bad thing. Usually Contracts are not the thing you would spend most of your time with in AC Valhalla, so don’t try to farm Opal.
Contracts will be marked with a regular green (or grey) square quest icon with a question mark in the middle on your map:
If the contract involves killing a target, you have to confirm the kill before you get your reward. Stand next to the body and hold to Confirm the Kill. this channeling lasts only a few seconds, but it may be tricky if there are other enemies around.
Get Opal by completing Time-Limited Challenges
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Update 1.1.1, released on January 14 2021, added the timed challenges to the Ubisoft Connect platform. They reward you with five or ten Opal for completing them.
The timed challenges are simple and easy to do as you play the game. They are also an additional incentive to log in and play some more Eivor after you beat the game and while waiting for the next batch of content or the expansions to arrive.
Timed Challenges reset each week and when you complete one, you will get a pop-up notification on screen. You need to open the Ubisoft Connect in-game overlay menu to manually Claim the reward.
Reda is part of an important side mission
As a follow-up from my Hidden Ones Set and the Codex Pages Guide, let me show you how to finish the mission you started there.
WARNING! THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPHS AND THE VIDEO BELOW CONTAIN MAJOR SPOILERS FOR A SIDE MISSION IN AC VALHALLA!
Once Reda is in your Settlement, you will be able to speak again (that is if you did the Codex Pages before Reda appeared) to Hytham. You can now continue the quest “A Brief History of the Hidden Ones“.
The quest was left hanging until Reda appears in Ravensthorpe. Now you can check back with Hytham, who will send you to Reda, who will show you something really cool – Bayek’s letter to his beloved.
Reda, it seems, owns a piece of paper written in the same language as the Codex Pages. It’s available next to him in his shop. When you open it, you hear a voiced narration by Bayek!
The video below will show you the conclusion of the “A Brief History of the Hidden Ones” quest. One big question is left hanging still – how is Reda alive and well in England so many centuries?
If you cannot see the video, please check if your AdBlocker is running on the site. It may prevent certain elements from the pages to appear properly or appear at all.
