A helpful step-by step guide on how to solve Ivaldi’s Riddles for A Feline’s Footfall and Taking Root quests from Asgard in AC Valhalla!
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla offers a few intriguing and some times challenging puzzles. If spending additional time solving them is not among your highest priorities, this guide will show you how to solve Ivaldi’s Riddles, part of the main story arc in Asgard!
As you progress through the main chain of quests for the Asgard Story Arc in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you will have to go through a few puzzles. Since you are reading this guide, you have likely already used my guide on how to unseal the well of Urdr for a previous quest in the chain. Not it’s time to solve Ivaldi’s Riddles!
Speaking to Ivaldi in his Forge in Asgard, he is going to give you a task to retrieve some unique and strange items to help him forge the magical cord Gleipnir for you.
Ivaldi gives you two riddles and provides you two hints to solving them. Both of the items you can use to solve the puzzles and answer his riddles are available in your Inventory.
How to collect a cat’s Footfall (A Feline’s Footfall)
The first riddle is a quest called “A Feline’s Footfall”. For it you need to collect a cat’s footfall.
The hint for this riddle is a note available in your inventory, which reads:
“Over the gate to the Great Norse Hall,
A golden cat sits patiently, Gazing upon many tall towers,
She’ll flee when she is found,
But follow without fear.
Look, leap, and descend,
Once she leads you to the end,
She may ghost to the ground,
Land as well, and swiftly steal her sound.”
If this sounds weird, it’s because it’s meant to be. These are actually step-by-step instructions on how to find the cat and catch its sound, literally.
We’ll start off from the Sync point location above the gate to the Great Norse Hall. It’s the middle Fast Travel on the Asgard map.
Leap down and at its foot, then climb up on the stone colonnade to the north-west. You should find yourself on this spot on the map, ready to chase the cat.
Now, look to the north-east. The cat is actually a golden statue, sitting quietly on top of a column, overlooking the towers to the north-east – just like the riddle’s text says.
Interesting note: This is a real statue of a cat. You will find it there even after the quest is finished.
When you approach it, it will flash in bright blue light and disappear. It will move always in the direction it faces.
You will be able to find the statue a little bit further and it will sit there waiting for you to catch up before it moves again, so it’s a chase, but not a race.
The next position of the cat is two jumps below on this column:
Next, hop down and go to this location to make thee golden cat teleport again to its next location.
Next, head to the edge of this platform and slide down.
Don’t slide all the way down. The cat spawns on this small stone platform at the top of a column. Release your grip and jump down to continue the chase.
Turn to the west and hop to the next location where the cat is now:
Next, turn to the south-west to see the cat on top of a golden statue
The final spot is the one on the image below:
From here leap down and as you land, you will collect the cat’s footfall.
As you land in the pile of hay below, you will automatically receive an item called “Cat’s Footfall”.
How to collect the root of a mountain (Taking Root)
The next riddle from Ivaldi is also your next quest before you can return to him. The quest is called “Taking Root”. The item in your inventory that servers as a clue to finding the item is called “Potential at Its Peak”. Its description reads:
“Cradled in rock,
At Asgard’s highest height,
A seed sleeps in Ymir’s cold grip.
Warm it awake, bring it to water,
For old bone to sprout with new life.”
Once again the text above is a well-masked, but very detailed instruction on what you need to do to solve the riddle. First, let’s get to the location you need to be.
The highest peak in Asgard is in the south-western end of the map. Look for UItangarm Chasm. There is a Sync Point on the very top of that mountain as well. However, since I didn’t have it, my path led me through the camp of a few unfriendly “blue guys”.
You need to literally climb to the very top. Synin shows you the way!
Climb up until you reach this spot with this little rock.
Throw a torch at it to fire up the hay around it. This will, as the text from the riddle suggested, wake it up.
Now you can approach and pick it up. There is an extended ledge nearby, signifying the location you need to throw it from. Approach the edge and throw the item down. It will tumble down the ricks and fall into a water pool below, which is what you need.
Take a Leap of Fate and follow the rock into the water pool below.
Finally, approach the root and Interact with it to pick it up and complete the “Taking Root” quest.
Now that you have this item in your Inventory, a new quest appears telling you to head back to Ivaldi.
I hope you found my guide on how to solve Ivaldi’s riddles easy to follow, fun and useful! Don’t forget to share it with your friends and help them out as well.
