How to find and solve Mysteries in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Mysteries Guide

Manfred by Manfred|

The Assassins Creed Valhalla Mystery tour has commenced. Mysteries are a new gameplay feature in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and here is an explanation of what they are, where to find them and what the benefits are of doing the mysteries. This guide is suitable for beginner players and a more experienced Viking veterans, seeking a bit of guidance on their way to full completion!

What are mysteries in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?

Mysteries in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla are additional places and objects of interest that you interact with to solve a unique puzzle and get a reward, usually XP or Skill Points. They are optional and vary greatly in types, design and time required to solve them.

Whenever you open your map in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla you will see silver dots on the screen. But it does not exactly tell you what they are so the only way to figure out what those dots mean is to mark them on your map, mount up and head to the marker.

Once you arrive it will become clear what exactly it is. It could be one of the eleven types of mini games that you can play to take a break from the main story.

The eleven types of mysteries that you may encounter are the following:

  • World Events
  • Animus Anamolies
  • Flyting
  • Fly Agaric
  • Standing Stones
  • Cairns
  • Altars
  • Legendary Animals
  • Lost Drengr
  • Treasures of Britain
  • Daughters of Lerion

World Events in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

The World Events are the biggest mysteries in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. And the quests you get are reminiscent of the smaller side quests in previous installments of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. It usually starts out with a NPC asking you for something and it could be anything. Finding a missing pig, meeting orphaned children or chasing a cat.

The quests however do not appear in your quest log. And aside from the initial silver dot on your map, you will not get any pointers on how to complete them.

Many quests involve finding an object and in order to complete that, the only real point here is; listen to what the NPC says. That should give you enough amount of clues of where to go and how to complete it.

What is Flyting and how to win it

Flyting is the new mini game in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Flyting is basically a Viking rap battle where the one with the best rhyming wits wins the match.

Flyting opens up extra dialogue options and can get you out of possible volatile situations where you either fight to the death or you end up overpaying someone an incredible amount of silver. Flyting, using your charismatic wits, can get you out of it.

The starter’s guide on AC Vallhalla already gave a decent explanation on what Flyting is exactly and how it works. But for those of you who have missed it, here it is again:

So what is Flyting exactly. Flyting is pretty much the Viking equivalent of a rap battle. Which is pretty awesome, especially if you are into rap.

To win you have to choose one of three options after the NPC starts you off. Your answer should rhyme with what the NPC said a moment ago, it should be equal in length and should be the greatest possible personal insult. That is how you win the Flyting!

There is a time limit so do not waste any time to answer. So release your inner Viking rapper and win those Viking rap battles and earn your honorary trophy which will be in the Valhalla Hall of Fame alongside your honorary Viking name.

If you complete all of the Flyting battles you will get a small reward and the Flyting battles count towards your completionism obsessions!

How to solve Standing Stones Mysteries

If you know Stonehenge then you probably have an idea what the Standing Stones are. In essence they are Neolithic stone circles all over England. Each of the centre of the Standing Stones have a pattern carved on the stone and accompanied by a note.

By using your “Odin Sight”, you will reveal blue spots splashed across the stones around you. Just make sure you are in the right position to look at them so that the splashes arrange themselves to match the pattern of the main stone.

The Standing Stones are a bit easier than that Fly Agaric puzzles but in this case you have to be in the exact position in order to solve the puzzle and that may prove to be a bit tricky.

If you are slightly off then just try to get in the right spot by testing what it should be. Do not get discouraged if you can not find the right spot straightaway, it takes a wee bit while to get it right. The Standing Stones reward skill points once you have them solved.

How to solve Fly Agaric Magic Mushtooms Mysteries

Fly Agaric is also a new mini game in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Fly Agaric is basically a magic mushroom, a mushroom that gives you hallucinations or a mushroom with hallucinogenic properties to put it more eloquently.

In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Eivor can inhale Fly Agaric in certain area’s and they trigger the start of a puzzle. The screen will go all fuzzy and you walk around without saying many coherent sentences but the psychedelic view makes the panoramic view complete. Once ingested a series of vortexes will appear in the area. In order to complete these challenges, Eivor will have to pass through the correct gates or pass through all of the gates in the right order.

Fly Agaric puzzles are not all the same and there is a lot of variety in them. Pay attention to the hints that are given. Sometimes it is very obvious and some are very subtle. And each puzzle is different. Sometimes the gates are the hints instead of the puzzle object. Although it can be hard to see what is happening while you are in this psychedelic state, be on the look out for hints.

If you have to go through doors in a certain order, look for signs that label the doors. It could be a number of items next to each door equal to the order in which you should pass through it. Some times you have to pass only through some doors, not all. In other case you will have to lit up cauldrons in front of statues and so on.

Just like the Standing Stones, completing a Fly Agaric puzzle will reward you with a skill point as some reflections by Eivor after he or she comes out of her trip. While they soon become a bit of a chore, the reward alone makes them worth doing.

Cairns, the art of stacking stones

Cairns are a mystery that involves the standing stones. The only difference is that you stack the stones in the most literal way on top of one another.

You can find cairns at the top of hills and mountains. Activating a cairn mystery will zoom the camera in on a bunch of rocks which you will then be tasked to stack on top of one another.

The Cairns puzzles are pretty straightforward. Much like the game Jenga you just stack without the stones collapsing. Just like the previous mysteries mentioned, the Cairns puzzles will reward you with a skill point.

There is a fictional plane displayed on your screen while you are solving the Cairn puzzle. This is the height you need to reach with your stones. Some times the key is to rearrange the stones, other times you have to place a stone in a vertical position and some times it’s important where you place the first stone – the big stone you start building your mini tower on is not all flat, you know.

Altars for offerings and sacrifices

Altars are the easiest of the Mysteries. You get the quest and you do it. That is it. That’s all there is to it. All of the altars will ask for a sacrifice. It can be anything from a dead animal, fish or just money. Figure out what the altar wants and bring it back to the place and sacrifice your offering at the foot of the altar.

The curious part of the Altar mystery is that it triggers a new World Event. Some of them quite interesting, like a chat with a couple of children who live in the forests and won’t tell you where their parents are or how they ended up thieving from the altar.

The Altar gives a little more depth to Eivor so please do not neglect them.

The Lost Drengr, the band of brothers who lost their purpose

The Lost Drengr are members of a legendary warband who thrived under the leadership of King Ragnar Lothbrok. However after the war many of these Lost Drengr just wander around and have no purpose in life. These warriors want to die and join their brethren in Valhalla and they picked you to make sure that they can walk through the gates of Valhalla.

The Lost Drengr are scattered all over England and Norway and accepting a request by one of them, will result in a fight. Do not let their old age fool you, they are still great and ferocious fighters which makes these fights extremely hard.

Make sure your power level matches theirs or higher before you take them on. The rewards are amazing so do not skip them and give these old warriors what they want: A death worthy of a one way ticket to the gates of Valhalla.

What are The Daughters of Lerion Mysteries for

If you are familiar with Shakespeae and King Lear then the Daughters of Lerion is something that should sound familiar. In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla the Lerion is a dark sorcerer who was killed by the nobility of England. However his three daughters survived and have gone into hiding taking their father’s secrets with them.

The daughters, Goneril, Regan and Cordelia, are actually boss fights and are probably the toughest ones in the game. Each fight goes through two phases and their attacks will hit hard and hurt you. Be prepared, max out your rations bag and upgrade your gear and weapons before taking them on.

Completing the quest will grant you parts of the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Thor gear. So it is well worth doing!

To trigger the boss fight Interact with this poor person showin in the image above. There is one of these at each arena. Daughters of Lerion locatoins are not marked in any way on your map. You have to discover the location or use the guide linked above.

They are part of a larger journey, which once completed, will grant you one of the most powerful armor sets and weapons in the game.

The Daughters of Lerion bosses are designed as an EndGame content. I suggest you get to at least 250+ Power Level if you are attempting them on a combat difficulty level above Easy.

How to solve Animus Anomalies

The animus is a nice break from the main story but it is also annoying because it takes the pace out of the game. Sometimes however you just need that. And while not as annoying as in the previous installments of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, they still can be because of the forced interruption.

The Animus is by far not perfect and it shows when reality tears through the simulation in the form of Animus Anomalies. They are nothing more than glitches in the virtual world’s landscape.

You trigger the Animus Anomalies by approaching the anomalies and you will then switched to Layla (or Basim). The one who is reliving the memories and who you have seen in previous installments Origins and Odyssey.

The anomolies will show a bunch of holographic sequence of platforms that you will need to complete. Some other platforms revolve around a light beam that you can adjust so that you can use them to travel. Upon completion you will see a video that will contribute more to the story so giving the vast story even more depth. So it is very much worth doing them.

Solving the anomalies is always a puzzle of approaching the right path and making sure the blue figures are stable, so you can climb through them. If a figure is not stable, it will blink or appear in dark grey. To stabilize it, point a light beam at it. Light beams are placed in strategic locations inside these puzzles. You can not drop down to the ground while solving the puzzles or you will fail and start over.

Legendary Animals, Tales of Folklore coming to life

Much like its’ predecessor there are legendary animals that only existed in tales of folklore and fairy tales, you can hunt them down and gain a huge reward.

In order to get the rewards for defeating the Legendary Animals you will need to construct the Hunter’s Hut in Ravensthorpe and talk to Wallace who will give you new cosmetics and access the special stash of weapons that he keeps when you turn in the animal pelts.

There are a lot of great items that you can get such as a special predator bow and Vord’rs bite. You will also get trophies that you can put in your longhouse as a reward for your achievement. So even more decorations that you can earn next to the amazing weaponry that will become available.

Check out the Legendary Animals Guide to find out where their locations are and how to defeat each one of them. Note some of these are very high Power Level (up to 400).

What are the Treasures of Britain and Tablets you get

The Great land of Britain would not be Britain if it did not have any treasures. Let alone Assassin’s Creed Valhalla mysteries!

The treasures are scattered all over Britain and if you want the Excalibur sword then you will need to complete this. Excalibur is ofcourse the legendary sword wielded by King Arthur.

Finding Excalibur is extremely hard and you will need to find ALL the tablets in Britain to get it done. Which means you will have to enter forgotten caves and labyrinths.

Vulkk has written a complete guide to help you on your way to find the legendary sword! You can find out how to get Excalibur in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla by reading it.
