Mass Effect Legendary Edition

Mass Effect Legendary Edition gets release date

Manfred by Manfred|

The Mass Effect Legendary Edition is coming! The game has been a thread in my life ever since the release of the game back in 2008 on the PC. I was completely immersed into the Mass Effect Universe, and even more so after the release of part 2 and 3. Not so much the third part but that second one and the DLC was wow! And now we all get to relive the experience with modern graphics, improved gameplay and new features! The Mass Effect Legendary Edition is coming this Spring!

Mass Effect Legendary Edition gets release date

Mass Effect Legendary Edition will be released on May 14, 2021. And it will be available on the following platforms:

  • PC via Origin and Steam
  • Playstation 4
  • XboX One
  • Forward compatability will be added on Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X | S.

On top of that you get ALL the DLC, weapons, armors to relive the adventure of Commander Shepard and his amazing friends. In 4K and HDR (High Dynamic Range). I do hope that they will manage to add RTX to the game as well. But if not, I will take HDR and 4K too!

As per the press release Mac Walters of Bioware had the following to say:

“It’s been an incredible journey revisiting the stories, characters and iconic moments of the Mass Effecttrilogy, enhancing the experience for modern platforms while staying true to the spirit of the original,” said Mac Walters, Project Director on the Mass Effect Legendary Edition and lead writer of the original trilogy at BioWare. “Remastering a game, let alone three, is a huge undertaking as there’s over 100 hours of gameplay included, but we wanted to do this for our fans as well as a new generation of gamers looking to jump into the iconic story of Shepard.”

What I expect of this release

I think it is great that Bioware releases the Mass Effect Legendary Edition in 4K and HDR. The games have great gameplay and a lot of depth in terms of weaponry, armor and skill trees. So playing them with the technology we have available at our disposal today will be as great as it was all those years ago.

Adding 4K and HDR means that we will get sharper image but I do hope that the game will be optimized so that we don’t struggle for FPS. It’s always such a tough thing where you have to choose between high FPS or quality.

Personally I can’t wait to see how my favorite character and NPCs hold up and I am ready to immerse myself again into the world of Mass Effect.

I have played Mass Effect 1 a couple of times and it’s quite different from the second part and third part. Simply because the first Mass Effect was way more RPG oriented in terms of skill tree and weaponry.

Mass Effect 2 and 3 were more action oriented. Although I would like to say that Mass Effect 2 had the best of both worlds. Enough RPG Elements and weaponry without going in TOO deep like the RPG version of Mass Effect 1.

Mass Effect 2 is also by far my favorite of the first trilogy. I have played and finished it twelve times and if it wasn’t for Rome Total War back then I am pretty sure I’d have finished it thirteen or maybe even fourteen times.

My favorite characters are all from Mass Effect 2 and they are Jack and Thane Krios. Their backstories had me sit on the edge of my seat way back.

The new Mass Effect Legendary Edition will allow you to create one character and keep their appearance throughout the whole trilogy. This sure will help with the immersion factor.

Playing order of Mass Effect

I am planning to play the games in the order of release. So I will start with Mass Effect 1 and then Mass Effect 2 and then Mass Effect 3. I expect you will be able to import save games to the next installment which is what makes the game so great in the first place: You deal with the consequences of your actions throughout all three games.

Back then it was uncanny and I don’t think it’s ever been done again. Oh wait, Dragon Age had that function as well but none of it was as big as Mass Effect did. All three games and you had to own up to what you have created.

So if you start with Mass Effect 2 you will miss out on so many choices that you have made in the first Mass Effect. And not to mention that you will miss out on a lot of the personal aspects of the Mass Effect franchise as well and miss out on the background, connections and relationships throughout the ME universe as a whole.

The final battle in Mass Effect 3, where everything comes together and falls into place, would feel totally different if you played all three games in consecutive order.
