Gina Carano who plays Cara Dune on the Disney+ hitseries The Mandalorian has been fired by Lucasfilm amidst social media controversy.
I guess that Lucasfilm has spoken!
“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a Lucasfilm representative said in a statement to Deadline. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
The reasons why Gina Carano got fired
Gina Carano, who is a former mixed Martial Artist, has been under fire quite a while. And to be fair, I have to say I am a little surprised that Lucasfilm and Disney have held on to her for this long. Fans asked many months ago if Gina Carano could be fired over several posts on her social media accounts.
The posts include being an anti-vaxxer, anti-masks which is dangerous especially during this pandemic, anti-transgender people, racist posts and was a supporter of the January 6 the people storming The Capitol as Gina believed that voter fraud was the reason why former president Donald Trump lost.
But then the worst of all posts happened but has since been removed. This is the internet however and nothing ever really gets deleted so here we go:
“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,” Gina Carano wrote.
Other posts of Gina Carano included: “Expecting everyone you encounter to agree with every belief or view you hold is fucking wild,” and one saying “Jeff Epstein didn’t kill himself.”
Jeffrey Epstein is mostly known for being charged and convicted for underaged prostitution. Before he went to trial he hung himself in his cell. But a lot of conspiracy theorists, especially those who follow Qanon, out there like to think that Epstein was murdered in his cell because he knew too much.
For Edit: Who is Jeff Epstein and what is this related to? If you have a link or image, would be great for those who have no clue (like me)
So fans resurrected the hashtag #FireGinaCarano while tagging Jon Favreau, Disney, Disney+, Star Wars and Lucasfilm to get the job done.
However fans of Gina who think that everything is just great countered that with the hashtag #weloveginacarano but failed to get traction. This is the way!
I guess there is nothing other to say than: Bye Felicia!

About her posts
Gina Carano caused controversy on her social media but dropped the bomb by adding “beep/bop/boop” in her Twitter bio last November. According to the LGBTQ community it looked like she was transphobic. However Gina explained later that she didn’t know what it meant when she put that in her Twitter bio and that co-star Pedro Pascal helped her understand what that meant.
“Pedro Pascal helped me understand why people were putting them in their bios. I didn’t know before but I do now. I won’t be putting them in my bio but good for all you who choose to. I stand against bullying, especially the most vulnerable & freedom to choose.”
But by then it was already too late. Especially when she posted more stuff like this:
As said before, Gina Carano’s rise to fame include her being a mixed martial artist fighting in StrikeForce and EliteXC before she made a careerswitch to acting. She starred most notably in The Mandalorian and played Angel Dust in Deadpool after a strong debut in Steve Soderbergh’s movie called Haywire.
The #CancelDisneyPlus trend
After the hashtag #weloveginacarano failed people did manage to get #CancelDisneyPlus to trend as an answer to Gina Carano’s firing. However at the time of writing most of these posts are confused people wondering why it is trending.
