Added in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Update 1.2.0, the Transmog feature allows you to change the appearance of your armor and weapons. Learn how to do this from this guide!

The Transmog feature has been present in the previous few games of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla we had to wait for nearly four months for the developers to add it.

The ability to change your outfit, alter your the appearance of your armor and weapons, is called Transmogfitication or Transmog for short. In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla you can change your appearance by visiting Gunnar.

You will have to pay for each and every transmog you do. Also you can only change the appearance of items by visiting the Blacksmith in your settlement Ravensthorpe.

To change your appearance you need to make sure you are patched to 1.2.0 or higher. Log into the game and get to your Settlement Ravensthorpe in England.

Visit Gunnar’s shop. The Blacksmith is the only way for you to use the Transmog feature in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Gunnar’s shop is right next to the docks as you spawn at the docks of your settlement and look towards North.

Gunnar's Shop in Ravensthorpe

Make sure you have unlocked the Blacksmith first. It happens very early on in the game, so this requirement is literally a no-brainer, but thought I’d mention it anyway.

Next, talk to Gunnar and get to the Shop screen. To do that, choose the “Let me see your services”.

From the top navigation bar, scroll twice to get to the newly available from update 1.2.0 “Change Appearance” tab.

On this screen you will see at the very top the items you have currently equipped. You can change the appearance of any item at any time, regardless if you have it equipped or not.

To change the appearance of an item, you need to first select the item you want to edit, then choose which of the available appearance options you want to choose.

For each Transmog action, you will pay 50 Silver. This is the newly available “Money Sink” that Ubisoft introduces to the game. It’s not like AC Valhalla didn’t need a money sink, but this is a bit expensive if you ask me.

The good news is that before you commit to an appearance change, you can preview how the new outfit will look on your character. Hover over or click on the desired new appearance for the selected item you are working on and the image on the right will change to show you how you will look if you apply it.

When you change an item’s appearance, it will show up with a star marker in your inventory. In the Transmog tab at Gunnar’s shop, you will see the item’s appearance selected in the bottom part of the screen with a bright white border.

If you want to reset an item’s appearance to its default version, press and hold the appropriate button to do so. On PC it’s the right-mouse button. You will not get your 50 Silver back.

In your inventory you will see the item with its default icon, but with an added star in the top left corner, notifying you that there is a Transmog applied to it.

Limitations of this system

Everywhere in the game this item will still be named with its original name from the original set it comes from, but the visuals will be altered. In the image above I am showing you the Armor from the Mentor’s Set with its appearance changed to the Hearthweru Armor.

There are a few other limitations worth explaining and reminding you of. You can only apply a Transmog to an item with the appearance of an item from the same category.

This means that if you want to replace the appearance of your dagger, you will only see the other daggers you own and can choose from. You can’t replace a dagger’s appearance with the appearance of a Hammer, for example.

The Appearance change preserves everything about the item, except its visual appearance. The item will still be a part of the same set if it’s an armor and it will still grant you the exact same stats as it did before.

In other words if you change, for example, the appearance of Suttungr’s Claw to have the appearance of Yngling Seax, the weapon will look like the Yngling Seax, but will preserve the same stats and perks from the Suttungr’s Claw.
