Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: How to start The Siege of Paris and go to Francia

A step-by-step guide to how to start the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla DLC The Siege of Paris unlocking for you a whole new map and quests!

The Siege of Paris is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s second paid expansion. It released on August 11 (or 12th, depending on where you live). It brings a whole new region to explore as Eivor gets to travel to Francia.

This expansion can be purchased separately as a stand-alone DLC. It is also included in the Season Pass. To play the new content you need to own both the base game and The Siege of Paris DLC. The Wrath of the Druids (the game’s first expansion) does not have a role here and if you don’t like going to Ireland, you don’t have to buy it.

To play The Siege of Paris you need to update your game at least to Patch 1.3.0. I suggest you always keep your game up-to-date no matter what platform you play on.

You also need to complete one of the first two story arcs in England – Grantebridgescire or Ledecestrescire. Francia’s regions are of a rather high Power Level, so it might be wiser if you go there a bit later. You can rush to the new map and explore it at your own pace, of course.

How to start The Siege of Paris Story then?

To start The Siege of Paris story in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla you need to go to England. Go back to your settlement Ravensthorpe. Once you land there you will receive a pop-up notification in-game telling you that the expansion is now live and you can start its storyline.

To the south, the kingdom of Francia has unified under a single king for the first time in a hundred years. Charles the Fat, the great0grandson of Charlemagne, now wages a slow war against the Norse in Francia. England could be next. Ravensthorpe must make new allies in Francia to avoid the threat of war.

A visitor will arrive in Ravensthorpe to launch the adventure!

What he in-game intro screen tells you about The Siege of Paris
The Siege of Paris Intro Screen

As soon as you exit out of this intro screen, you will get a letter from Randvi. Don’t worry, it appears right on your screen, no need to go to the Longhouse to read it.

The text of the letter is:

Eivor,

Two visitors have arrived at Ravensthorpe from Francia. One is a young Norse warrior from Jarl Sinric’s clan near Paris, and the other seems to be a Frank. They have already built us a new guesthouse as a gift from Sinric’s brother Sigfred. I am no seer, but it is obvious they want something from us.

The warrior, girl names Toka, has been asking after you. Speak with them and find out what they really want.

Randvi's letter

When you close the letter, a new quest will be given to you called “Strangers Bearing Gifts”.

Time to pay these new guests a visit. In the eastern part of Ravensthorpe, past the Sigrblot Festival grounds, you will find a new house and two guests.

Where to find Toka

You will find Toka sharpening her sword in front of the newly built guest house. She will be a leading NPC for your journeys into Francia.

Toka

Talk to her and her companion – the frank Pierre. They will tell you that they have prepared a feast in your honor.

Toka and Pierre

Following a short cinematic scene in which the feast plays out, you will learn the true intentions of why Toka and Pierre have arrived to Ravensthorpe. They need you to join with your clan and help their cause in Francia.

At the end of the cinematic you will tell Toka that you agree to bring the Raven Clan to Francia to help Sigfred. This will also complete the “Strangers Bearing Gifts” quest.

Your new quest will pop up right away and it’s called “To Francia”. Pretty clear what follows, right?

Head back to the guest house and speak to Pierre. This will trigger another cinematic during which you will actually set sail for Francia.

When you regain control of Eivor again, you will sail across a river whose shores show destruction and misery. This is the Francia you arrive in at the beginning of The Siege of Francia story.

At this point the quest “To Francia” will be complete and the next one will begin. It’s called “The Warlord of Melun”.

Your goal is to get to Melun and speak to Sigfred. During that short trip through the river, you will not be able to do pretty much anything except move forward and listen to Toka’s narrative.

When you arrive to your destination – The Hidden Dock, you will leave the ship and continue on ground to the village. Toka will offer you a horse, but you can call your own mount, of course. I personally never go anywhere without my Black Wolf skin, which I got from the Black Raven Pack!

When you get to the village, you will have to cross it and go the the burial grounds where you will find Sigfred.

After yet another cinematic conversation between Eivor and Sigfred, follow him to the Longhouse. When you enter the next cinematic will start giving you a chance to listen to Toka’s inspirational speech.

The Longhouse and Toka's speech

The meeting in the Longhouse is interrupted by a sudden attack from enemy soldiers, who you will have to help defeat.

The Attackers

At the end of this scene you will have to make a moral choice:

Eivor makes a choice

At the end of this cinematic “The Warlord of Melun” quest will be completed and you will receive two new ones. The “Rot in the Slums” is the continuation of the main storyline of The Siege of Francia and sends you to the Slums of Paris. The other quest you will have is to speak to Pierre and it is called “Vive le Resistance“. This is the starter quest for the Rebel Missions in Francia.

This is where the freedom to do whatever you want is granted to you. From this point forward you can freely travel back and forth from Francia to any of the other maps previously added to the game.

The AC Valhalla Maps

You can choose to continue the Francia story or go do something else. The quests will wait for you when you are ready to do them.

The map of Francia is not very big, but it will offer you more than enough content to keep you entertained for some time.

Map of Francia in The Siege of Paris - AC Valhalla DLC

The majority of the non-main-story content falls under the description “more of the same”, but if that is what you want from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s second paid DLC, then you are in luck!

Fun note: when you open the map of Francia, you will be constantly hearing distant bell toll sounds. Very similar to what the air shots of Francia had in the background in the Vikings tv show.

The TV show shows Francia in the time of Ragnar Lothbrok and the story in the game takes place years after Ragnar’s death, but it’s still nice to see this detail preserved. I honestly can’t tell if this sound was common in the 9th and 10th century Francia, but it sure is repeated both in the tv show and now in the game.

You can purchase The Siege of Paris from one of the links available on the official game website.
