Andor is less than two weeks away from its release and the build-up continues with a ten-minute Andor Preview video released on Disney Plus that gives us more information about the series without revealing “too much”.
Thanks to teasers, trailers, and interviews we have a solid idea about what Andor is going to be about; the birth of the revolutionary Cassian Andor. The live-action series is going to explore his difficult childhood, the moment he joined the war, and the journey of a man that eventually becomes a hero of the rebellion.
Tony Gilroy talks about the five-year span they’re going to explore and how the Empire keeps getting stronger with every planet that they ravage.
Simultaneously, people all over the galaxy are starting to rebel against the Galactic Empire and its tyranny. This is going to be not only the birth of Cassian Andor as a rebel hero but also the formation of what eventually is the Rebel Alliance.
I’m super excited about this, so many people with heartbreaking stories uniting into a single group to defend something they believe in. Of course, that’s easier said than done, when we consider the constant surveillance every important figure is subjected to.
We can’t forget that despite having a common goal, some leaders are more extreme in the methods they’re willing to use while others refuse to employ the same tactics as the Empire.
One thing that I believe must be highlighted is the refusal to use “The Volume”. The Volume is a replacement for a greenscreen that uses a massive curved LED screen to create photorealistic scenes in real-time.
This makes the shooting process an immersive experience that allows the actors and director to have a solid idea of how the final product is going to look. The Volume was used in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
Gilroy emphasizes how he wants everything to feel as real as possible, the characters’ emotions, needs, and decisions. They are who tell the story and he really wants to do it in a way that fits his philosophy.
I don’t think many would dare to be in a meeting with Disney executives and tell them “I don’t want to use this highly advanced tech that makes everything easier. I want to do it my way”. That’s probably not how it happened but you get my point. The man is willing to defend his ideas and that speaks tons about him as a producer.
We can see a full band with its director playing live on the set when they’re filming. “The music was there. I was performing and hearing the music that you will hear when you watch it.” Diego Luna
How cool is that?! It’s probably the first time that a Star Wars project of this magnitude implements this idea. The immersion and emotions are probably taken to the next level and I’m sure that is going to reflect in some scenes.
Then we see a five-minute scene where Cassian meets Luthen Rael for the first time. Andor delivers an Imperial box, Luthen is impressed and asks what method he used. That’s when he says that particular line that we heard in the first teaser: “They’re so fat and satisfied, they can’t imagine it… That someone like me would ever get inside their house”.
This is when Luthen offers him to join the cause, a group of people uniting to fight for what’s left of the galaxy. Andor isn’t able to accept or decline the offer because they’re found by what I assume is a local militia that serves the Empire.
Shots are fired and they barely manage to escape. This is their first encounter but since we all know where everything leads it’s obvious that Cassian accepts his proposal.
I’m not a fan of getting so much content before the actual release, I prefer to be surprised rather than knowing what’s going to happen but this scene didn’t reveal any secret so I have no problem with it.
This is probably the last teaser before the release of the series, I vaguely know what to expect but at the same time, I really want to see something new and fresh. I can’t help but be super hyped about it.

Are you excited about it? Do you expect to see something new and different compared to the other Star Wars series?
