The D23 event had surprises for fans of Marvel, Disney, and Star Wars. Among my favorites is The Mandalorian Season 3 Teaser Trailer with the full season confirmed to be coming to DisneyPlus in 2023! Now, time to break down the teaser and analyze it!
This teaser trailer was first revealed at Star Wars Celebration which took place last May. But now, it’s finally available for everyone who couldn’t attend.
This trailer doesn’t reveal or tease anything that wasn’t common knowledge but that doesn’t take away the fact that it has some very interesting scenes that hint at how some events are going to unfold.
The trailer begins with the voice of The Armorer, what she says sets the tone for the entire series:
“This is the one you saved? You are as its father. A clan of two. But you have removed your helmet. Then you are a Mandalorian no more.”
To regain his honor, Din Djarin must redeem himself on the living waters beneath the mines of Mandalore, mines that were destroyed. If we’ve learned something, is that Mandalorians are very stubborn people. One way or another, Din Djarin will find the way.
We see Bo-Katan in what looks like a throne room, and she has a very unsettling look. Let’s not forget that her ultimate goal is to rule Mandalore and restore the Mandalorian glory, but there’s a little inconvenient: the Darksaber is still in possession of Din, who won it fairly by defeating its previous wielder; Grand Moff Gideon.
According to Mandalorian laws, it can only be gained by battle. Logically she’d try to challenge him for it but I’m sure there are bigger threats that haven’t been revealed yet and must be dealt with before choosing a ruler for what’s left of the Mandalorian people.
I can’t think of any other reason why he’d be with other clans. I assume he’s going to try to unite them to have a better chance of survival, it wouldn’t be the first time that someone unites all clans to fight a great enemy.
With the dark saber, his sense of honor, and outstanding battle skills there’s no reason to believe others wouldn’t fight under his command.
I’m going into “fan with crazy theory” mode because the trailer didn’t reveal anything meaningful, but I don’t think any of my thoughts are that far from what could actually happen.
Greef Karga is back and he looks fancier than ever with an elegant red cape and a shiny necklace surrounding his neck as he walks out of a small but pretty building.
The last time he was an administrator, clearly, things are going well for him. But Din Djarin isn’t known for visiting people just to catch up.
Either he needs something or Greef called for his help. I believe it’s the second option, a few seconds later a group of thugs is talking with him, whatever they want it can’t be good if he needs to have his blaster ready to fire.
I love when Mandalorians use their jetpacks to make an epic entrance, which is exactly what happens next. They’re fighting in Greef Karga’s city, so it should be against the thugs that were trying to intimidate Karga.
“Did you think your dad was the only Mandalorian?” says Bo-Katan to Grogu. I can’t make up my mind if she sounds “playful” or menacing.
In all scenes where she’s not wearing the helmet, her expression is super odd compared to her previous appearances. In a past article, I expressed my fears about Bo-Katan receiving the “Daenerys Targaryen treatment”.
I don’t want to see her become obsessed with power and inevitably be destroyed by her own ambitions. She’s a character with a big story and importance to the Mandalorian culture, but I won’t deny that having her as an antagonist would be super interesting.
The third season might be the most serious one yet but there’s still room for a little comic relief; Peli Motto, Babu Frik (unconfirmed), and a bunch of Kowakian Monkey Lizars will be part of the show.
This is just a teaser trailer, the main trailer is yet to be revealed but I don’t think we are going to watch it anytime soon.
What do you think is going to be Bo-Katan’s role in this season? Is it possible that Din Djarin eventually becomes the new Mandalore?
