This is an easy-to-follow walkthrough to guide you through the Magic Lamp side quest and most of all – the four statues puzzle, in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt in Velen!
This guide is up-to-date for The Witcher 3 Next-Gen version (Update 4.04)
How to unlock and start the Magic Lamp Quest
The “Magic Lamp” is a side quest for level 6 (suggested) in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. It becomes available at the very end of the main quest Wandering in the Dark with Keira in the Cave in Velen, where you chase the Wild Hunt.
Shortly after Keira gives you the Eye of Nehaleni to dispel the illusion, the Wandering in the Dark quest ends, and in the following cinematic cutscene, Keira asks you to help her retrieve the Magic Lamp.
Agree to help Keira Metz. It’s a quick and easy quest with no combat involved and it awards you one of the most interesting (and important, if you want to dive deep into the game’s history and lore) items – the Eye of Nahaleni and (a little bit later) the Magic Lamp itself.
How to solve the Four Statues Riddle
Now that you have agreed to help Keira, follow her to the left corridor. That’s the arc opening on the north wall, if you prefer this description.
When you arrive at the room with the four statues, Keira will shoot a complaint about this being yet another puzzle. Unlike the simple ones earlier in this cave, this is a more interesting one and is actually a riddle.
Go to the stone door and examine it. The inscription on the door reads:
Four guardians, four flames.
Standing proud in a line.
The first to light his fire,
dared not to march on the end.
The second, by the first,
played a woeful lament.
The third kept close to his fateful beast.
The fourth marched not beside the first,
yet like second, played a tune.
And this they stood o’er their queen,
who slept beneath flickering stars
Time to solve it. There are fire pits in front of each one of the four statues. You have to light up the fires in the correct order. Failing to do that, will spawn Wraiths each time you do the combination wrong. And these are the types of enemies that will not reward you with juicy loot.
You can go close to it and interact to Ignite them or use Igni to light up the fires.
Stand before the statues and light the fires in this order:
- Light up the fire in front of the Third Statue from the Left.
- Light up the fire in front of the Second Statue from the Left.
- Light up the fire in front of the Fourth Statue from the Left.
- Light up the fire in front of the First Statue from the Left.
When you enter the next room, you will see an altar. That’s where the Magic Lamp is. As soon as you attempt to interact with it, a cinematic scene will play.
This will complete the side quest Magic Lamp. Keira will invite you to visit her, which is another side quest I recommend you to do, but that’s for a different guide.
As a matter of fact, if you go to talk to her, she will give you the side quest “A Towerfull of Mice” and right after the first cinematic, she will give you the Magic Lamp. You don’t have to do the quest now, but you can freely use the Lamp. It will come in handy for when you do the new side quest from the next-gen update “In the Eternal Fire’s Shadow”, also available in Velen.
Before you exit the cave, be sure to stop by and pick up the +1 Skill Point from the Yrden Place of Power nearby in the cave. There are six Places of Power Locations in Velen and if you need help, check out that guide as well.
There is also another room, just behind the Place of Power. It features an Elemental Golem. And it just so happens that the Place of Power will increase your Yrden sign intercity. Golems are vulnerable to this sign. It’d be a shame to not go there and fight this enemy. The loot in the chests around it is definitely worth it.
That concludes your adventures in the cave with Keira. You completed the Wandering in the Dark earlier, now you have done the Magic Lamp side quest as well, you got the Eye of Nahaleni item and picked up a +1 Skill Point from the Place of Power.
