This guide will show you how to start the Scavenging Hunt quest for the Superior Wolven Gear from the Wolf School witcher set in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt next-gen update, where to find and obtain all the diagrams and the requirements to craft the armor and weapons!

What is the Superior Wolven Gear and who is it for
The Superior Wolven witcher set is for level 29 and is an upgrade to the Enhanced Wolven witcher gear (level 21), which is an upgrade to the basic Wolven witcher gear (level 14). It’s a medium armor set that boosts Resistances, Experience earned, Attack Power, Adrenaline Points Gain and Sign Intensity. It’s an all-rounder type of a set. Just like Geralt in the books.
You need to craft the Basic and Enhanced armor and swords first as they are part of the requirements to craft the Superior version. More on that in the Crafting Segment later in this guide.
How to start the Scavenging Hunt quest for the Superior Wolven witcher set
There are two map fragments that you can purchase from different merchants. These will start the following Scavenger Hunt quests:
- Scavenger Hunt: Wolf School Gear Upgrade Diagrams – Part 3
- Scavenger Hunt: Wolf School Gear Upgrade Diagrams – Part 4
Part 3 is sold by the armorer in Kaer Trolde, Skellige. Part 4 is sold by the armorer in Hierarch Square.
The Superior Wolven set requires level 29 to wear. You can start this quest earlier, there are some enemies at the diagram’s locations so you can get every diagram really quickly. You could obtain them at a lower level as well, but you will not be able to wear the gear.
Visual Overview of the set
The set is a loose reference to the gear Eskel is wearing. It features a pouch hanging on Geralt’s chest, heavy accents of thick brown hide, and black accents. You can use a dye on it to change the colors of each individual item. Dyes can be purchased from the Dyes Merchant in Toussaint.
Where to find the Diagrams
There are six diagrams of the Superior Wolven Wolf School gear. They’re distributed between Kaer Morhen and Skellige. The order in which you get the diagrams doesn’t matter. Finding all six will auto-complete the Scavenger Hunt quests related to them.
Superior Wolven Armor Diagram Location
The Superior wolven armor diagram is among the ruins of a wooden structure that looks like an old training camp of some sort or maybe a small fortress. It’s in the southern part of the main Skellige island – Ard Skellig. The location is southwest of Fyresdal.
There is a Monster Nest and level 13 Harpies inside the walls. You have to deal with them first. After that, climb up onto the wooden wall. The chest containing the diagram is next to the southeastern wooden tower.
Superior Wolven Gauntlets diagram location
The Gauntlets diagram is in Kaer Morhen. It’s inside a very special lore-rich cave. The closest Fast Travel is the Iron Mine post.
From Kaer Morhen, head south, cross the river, and shortly after that turn right heading west. Cross the wooden bridge, past the Iron Mine Fast Travel, and reach the entrance of a cave.
Inside the cave, you have to defeat a level 30 Earth Elemental, who will aggro you before you can get to the diagram. Use Elementa Oil on your silver sword. Near the end of the fight, the Earth Elemental may create a stone wall in a circle, trapping you inside. You cannot jump over it and will have to finish off the fight in this small area.
The Earth Elemental also drops an Earth Elemental mutagen, which is the main ingredient for the Earth Elemental decoction.
Superior Wolven Boots diagram location
This diagram is in the Kaer Morhen area, in a cave east of the fortress. From the fortress Fast Travel post, head south, follow the path to the river, then turn east and follow the river. Look for a cave entrance on the eastern banks of the river.
Keep to the right as you enter. A few Endrega workers (level 9) will not be an issue for you if you are at the level for this tier of gear upgrades. Still, use Insectoid Oil if you need to speed things up a bit. The chest with the diagram is behind a rock formation on the other end of the cave.
Superior Wolven Trousers diagram location
The Superior Wolven Trousers diagram is also in Kaer Morhen, north of the Bastion.
The easiest and quickest way is to fast travel to the Bastion. You’ve been here before for the Basic Wolven Steel Sword diagram. From the ruins head directly north through the forest.
There are a bunch of level 13 Harpies near the entrance to the cave, where the diagram is. You can skip them if you prefer.
There’s something else that makes this cave special. On the rock on the right before you enter, examine the wolf symbol. This is not the symbol for the diagram’s location, but a separate lore-related one.
Inside the cave you will find lore objects. Examine everything that flashes red when you use your witcher sense. Geralt will tell you the story of this cave. Before the fortress was built, this is where they used to bring candidates to transform them into witchers.
Inside the cave you will face a few level 12 Nekkers and a level 13 Devourer. Nothing special. The chest with the diagram right where you fight the second group of Nekkers and the Devourer.
If you want to finish the lore of this cave, examine everything and reach the end of the cave. In fact, when you go to the very end, you will get prompted to return, the map will open and you can fast travel to your next destination.
Superior Wolven Steel Sword diagram location
The steel sword upgrade diagram is on the western side of Hindersfjall. This is a small island to the east of the main island Ard Skellig.
If you haven’t been on Hindersfjall before, you can purchase a map fragment from a merchant on Ard Skellig to unlock the fast travel. Read the guide to important merchants in The Witcher 3 to learn more.
At the top of the hill, where the marker is, you will have an Ice Troll to defeat. This isn’t a boss or a special encounter, just a regular Ice Troll, level 26. You could avoid the fight if you prefer to. If you decide to fight, let me remind you that Quen and Ogroid Oil could help against this kind of monster.
Jump down through the broken floor of the tower ruins on top of the hill and follow the next room. Clear the poison clouds with Aard or Igni and loot the diagram from the chest on the left-hand side of the entrance.
Superior Wolven Silver Sword diagram location
The silver sword diagram is next to Arinbjorn, a village on the western coast of Ard Skellig. Up on the nearby hills, southeast of the village, you will find some remains of stone structures shaped as circles.
The chest is in a small cave under the top right hill. There’s a stone arch on the western side of the hill. The silver sword diagram is in on your left as you enter, behind a wooden barrel and wooden box.
How to Craft the Armor and Weapons
This is the third Tier of the Wolf School Gear, you need a few rare and/or special things to craft it. Visit any Journeyman Blacksmith to craft the swords and a Journeyman Armorer to get the armor set. For the Chest piece, you will need to unlock the Master Armorer in Crow’s Perch.
The Superior Wolf is a high-level gear set. This means that to craft all of the items, you will need crafting materials as well as the previous versions of each item – the Enhanced Wolven gear.
Crafting Materials Requirements
Here is a list of some of the more interesting crafting materials you may not have on you and info on how to obtain them as easily and as cheaply:
Meteorite Silver Ingot
Can be purchased from Armorers and other merchants. You can also craft it from Meteorite Ingot and Silver Ingot or Dismantle certain items to get it.
Dimeritium Plate
Can be looted, crafted from Dimeritium Ingots, or purchased directly from a merchant (most often found in armorer and blacksmith shops).
Cured Draconid Leather
Can be purchased from merchants. (it’s a bit expensive but easy to find). Can also dismantle Heavy Armor or Monster Carapace to get it.
Meteorite Silver Plate
Can be purchased from Armorers and other craftsmen and merchants. You can also craft it yourself from Meteorite Silver Ingots.
Dark Steel Ingot
Can be looted, purchased, or crafted from Dark Iron Ore/Dark Iron Ingot and Steel Ingot. You can dismantle some gear pieces.
Dimeritium Ingot
Can be looted, purchased, or crafted from Dimeritium Ore and Glowing Glowing Ore Ingot. You can dismantle some gear pieces.
The rest of the items you can get by purchasing from alchemists, merchants or armorers and blacksmiths. You can also get them by dismantling items at an armorer or blacksmith.
Where to find an Armorer and Blacksmith
It doesn’t matter which NPCs you visit to craft the items, but if you are not sure, I will mention two easily accessible and already available to you from your previous journeys on The Continent.
The Journeyman Armorer’s shop in Novigrad is on the western side of Hierarch Square. The Journeyman Blacksmith in Novigrad can make both swords for you. He is on the northern side of the open market area. This is just west and south of Hierarch Square.
Complete the secondary quests to unlock the Master Armorer Yoana at Crow’s Perch and Master Blacksmith Hattori in Novigrad. Linked above are the walkthrough guides on how to unlock both of them.
It costs you less to craft your gear at these locations below, because the smiths are thankful for your aid in opening their shops, so you get something like a discount. They are also rich merchants and will be able to buy more junk that you loot while you venture into the wild.
Superior Wolven Gear Set Stats
The Superior Edition of the Wolf witcher gear is an improvement in any aspect compared to the previous tier. You get additional rune slots as well.
How to get the Legendary Version of the Superior Wolven Set
The Legendary Wolf School witcher gear set is available in New Game Plus (NG+) in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. The Scavenging Quest and all diagrams are located in the exact same places as in the normal game.
