This guide will show you how to start the Scavenging Hunt quest for the Mastercrafted Wolven Gear from the Wolf School witcher set in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt next-gen update, where to find and obtain all the diagrams and the requirements to craft the armor and weapons!

What is Mastercrafted Wolven Gear and who is it for
The Mastercrafted Wolven witcher set is for level 34 and is an upgrade to the Superior Wolven witcher gear (level 29), which is an upgrade to the Enhanced Wolven witcher gear (level 21), which is an upgrade to the basic Wolven witcher gear (level 14). It’s a medium armor set that boosts Resistances, Experience earned, Attack Power, Adrenaline Points Gain, and Sign Intensity. It’s an all-rounder type of set. Just like Geralt in the books.
You need to craft the Basic, Enhanced and Superior armors and swords first as they are part of the requirements to craft the Mastercrafted version. More on that in the Crafting Segment later in this guide.
How to start the Scavenging Hunt quest
Starting the Scavenging Hunt quests is not required to obtain the diagrams and craft the gear. You can just go to the locations at any point in time. The diagrams will be waiting for you with or without the quests.
There are two map fragments that you can purchase from different merchants. These will start the following Scavenger Hunt quests:
- Scavenger Hunt: Wolf School Gear Upgrade Diagrams – Part 5
- Scavenger Hunt: Wolf School Gear Upgrade Diagrams – Part 6
Part 5 is sold by the master blacksmith Hattori in Novigrad. Part 6 is sold by the armorer in Kaer Trolde, Skellige.
The Mastercrafted Wolven set requires level 34 to wear. You can start this quest earlier, there are some enemies at the diagram’s locations. You can get every diagram really quickly. You could obtain them at a lower level as well, but you will not be able to wear the gear.
Visual Overview of the set
The set is a loose reference to the gear Eskel is wearing. It features a pouch hanging on Geralt’s chest, heavy accents of thick brown hide, and black accents. You can use a dye on it to change the colors of each individual item. Dyes can be purchased from the Dyes Merchant in Toussaint.
Where to find the Diagrams
There are six diagrams of the Mastercrafted Wolven Wolf School gear. They’re distributed between Velen and Skellige. The order in which you get the diagrams doesn’t matter. The Armor and the two swords are in south Velen. The rest of the gear is in Skellige.
As usual, I list them in the same order in which they appear in the game’s crafting and Gear menu. Finding all six will auto-complete the Scavenger Hunt quests related to them.
Mastercrafted Wolven Armor Diagram location
The armor upgrade diagram is in southwest Velen. The closest reference point is Byways to the northwest of the marked location. Fyke Isle is not too far as well, it’s to the northeast.
The diagram is in a filled-up old well among some elven ruins. You will find it on the western end of the ruins. You may find some Wraiths here, but they should not be an issue to deal with.
There’s a Place of Power not too far to the north. If you haven’t picked it up, you might as well do that while you are in the area.
Mastercrafted Wolven Gauntlets diagram location
The diagram is on the main island Ard Skellig, south of Rannvaig.
At the location, there is a Witcher Contract quest involving the creature you will find there. Morvudd is a Fiend and is the boss for the Witcher Contract “Missing Son”, which is for level 27.
The chest is on top of the ruined stone wall, just behind the Fiend.
Mastercrafted Wolven Boots diagram location
The diagram for the mastercrafted wolven boots is at the Dorve Ruins on the eastern side of the small island Undvik. This is the island in the bottom left on the map, southwest of Ard Skellig.
If you haven’t been here before, you can purchase a map fragment from a merchant on Ard Skellig to unlock the Fast Travel to Undvik. Or… you can swim if you prefer to.
The chest is on the south side of the ruined tower.
Mastercrafted Wolven Trousers diagram location
This diagram is on Spikeroog. The island is on the top left corner of the Skellige map, northwest of Ard Skellig.
You need to visit the Old Watchtower, there some level 12 and 14 bandits have made camp. You may be able to avoid confronting the bandits (but why would you?).
The chest with the diagram is on top of the stone wall with the arch next to the Fast Travel post on the northwest side of the tower.
Mastercrafted Wolven Steel Sword diagram location
This diagram is located in a chest at the bottom of the sea in west Velen.
As you approach the marked location on the map, dive underwater to find the sunken ship. Around it, you may encounter two or three level 10 drowners. Use your crossbow to quickly get rid of them.
The chest is directly below the wooden stairs in the center of the ship.
There is a hidden treasure at the back of the ship. You might want to drink a Killer Whale potion, it will extend the time you can spend underwater.
Mastercrafted Wolven Silver Sword diagram location
The silver diagram is in southeastern Velen. The House of Respite is close to the east and the Ancient Oak is close to the west.
There is a hidden treasure at the location and a level 22 Fiend guarding it. At this point you should not be troubled by Fiends, but they are quite intimidating if you are under-leveled.
The Fiend will aggro you before you can get to the key that will unlock the door to the hideout. Inside are both the chest with the diagram and the hidden treasure. Use Relic Oil to defeat the Fiend quicker. These monsters are also weak to Samum and Devil’s Puffball bombs. Fire hurts them too, Igni and Quen are always useful in a fight like that.
The key is on a corpse right in front of the door. The treasure and silver sword diagram are inside.
The fiend here should also drop a Fiend mutagen, the main crafting ingredient for the Fiend decoction.
How to Craft the Armor and Weapons
This is the fourth Tier of the Wolf School Gear, you need a few rare and/or special things to craft it. TO craft the swords, you need to unlock Master Blacksmith Hattori in Novigrad. To craft the Armor piece, you need to unlock Master Armorer Yoana in Crow’s Perch. For the rest of the armor pieces, you can visit any Journeyman armorer.
The Mastercrafted Wolf is a very high-level gear set. This means that to craft all of the items, you will need crafting materials as well as the previous versions of each item – the Superior Wolven gear.
Crafting Materials Requirements
Here is a list of some of the more interesting crafting materials you may not have on you and info on how to obtain them as easily and as cheaply:
Meteorite Silver Ingot
Can be purchased from Armorers and other merchants. You can also craft it from Meteorite Ingot and Silver Ingot or Dismantle certain items to get it.
Cured Draconid Leather
Can be purchased from merchants. (it’s a bit expensive but easy to find). Can also dismantle Heavy Armor or Monster Carapace to get it.
Dimeritium Plate
Can be looted, crafted from Dimeritium Ingots, or purchased directly from a merchant (most often found in armorer and blacksmith shops).
Meteorite Silver Plate
Can be purchased from Armorers and other craftsmen and merchants. You can also craft it yourself from Meteorite Silver Ingots.
Dimeritium Ingot
Can be looted, purchased, or crafted from Dimeritium Ore and Glowing Glowing Ore Ingot. You can dismantle some gear pieces.
Before you resort to purchasing an expensive crafting material, make sure you don’t have a way to craft it. The Dimeritium Plate, for example, is quite expensive even at this late stage of the game. It can be crafted from a number of ingredients, many of which you will likely have on you or can purchase cheaply enough. And always check what you can dismantle and what it dismantles in to.
The rest of the items you can get by purchasing from alchemists, merchants or armorers and blacksmiths. You can also get them by dismantling items at an armorer or blacksmith.
Where to find an Armorer and Blacksmith
It doesn’t matter which NPCs you visit to craft the items, but if you are not sure, I will mention two easily accessible and already available to you from your previous journeys on The Continent.
The Journeyman Armorer’s shop in Novigrad is on the western side of Hierarch Square. The Journeyman Blacksmith in Novigrad can make both swords for you. He is on the northern side of the open market area. This is just west and south of Hierarch Square.
Complete the secondary quests to unlock the Master Armorer Yoana at Crow’s Perch and Master Blacksmith Hattori in Novigrad. Linked above are the walkthrough guides on how to unlock both of them.
It costs you less to craft your gear at these locations below, because the smiths are thankful for your aid in opening their shops, so you get something like a discount. They are also rich merchants and will be able to buy more junk that you loot while you venture into the wild.
Mastercrafted Wolven Gear Set Stats
The Mastercrafted Edition of the Wolf witcher gear is an improvement in any aspect compared to the previous tier. You get additional rune slots as well.
The + numbers in the images below are actual differences between the Superior and Mastercrafted versions of the set. The – symbols are a result of Oils, which you can reapply to the new swords after you craft them.
How to get the Legendary Version of the Mastercrafted Wolven Set
The Legendary Wolf School witcher gear set is available in New Game Plus (NG+) in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. The Scavenging Quest and all diagrams are located in the exact same places as in the normal game.
